Pompey Takeover Saga

Fitzhugh Fella

Recommended Posts

Birch has just finished a lunch meeting at Claridges with a potential owner and his representatives. I should find out later in the week how it went. If I was a Pompey fan, I wouldn't get my hopes up. I think it is more of the "famous ex-footballer plus a nice Jewish boy from London", than Roman Abramovich....

Micky Fialka and Vinny Jones?

On the 'Alan Brazil Show' on Talksh*te this morning they were talking about the plight of Rangers and it was said the upcoming Old Firm match may not go ahead on Police advice. They are expecting a bit of a reaction from the 'Gers supporters and, as you can imagine, the hoops mob are winding them into a frenzy. They're apparently talking about turning up in suits, bowler hats and brollies mimicking the Taxman. They are fearing serious trouble.

I wonder if Hants OB are considering this possibilty as April 7 gets nearer?

Even I have been wondering about this, so I'm sure the police have given it a thought. :)

I'd love to see the Old Bill turn up in suits, bowlers and carrying brollies. :)

off on a tangent back to Rangers for a second,

if they went tits up, what are the chances of them re-forming as Rangers Newco FC and joining the English lower leagues?

Was shooting the **** about this in the pub, the general feeling was that it would be more likely that Celtic would ask to join the English League. All they would need would be the shell of an existing League team that is about to get liquidated.

Portsmouth Celtic FC anyone? ;)

Mmmm... if Wimbledon can move to Milton Keynes, how much more of a stretch is it from Glasgow to Portsmouth? Or maybe somewhere with untapped potential, Celtic Warrington?

Only if they weren't playing in Scotland. When a new club seeks affiliation with a regional FA (and, as a result, the national FA), it has to provide details of its registered address and home ground. If both of those are in Scotland, there's no regional FA in England that would accept their application.

Why the difference with Welsh based clubs?

Maybe a bit of positive discrimination for the creditors is more to the point. Don't expect morality from yet another moronic MP.

Why the difference with Welsh based clubs?

It's a historical thing, Wales has never had a fully professional football league of its own, and also technically Wales isn't actually a country, it's a principality. The Welsh clubs in the English pyramid (Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham, Newport and Merthyr - I'm sure The9 will add any obvious ones I've missed :o) are all full members of the FAW and affiliate members of the FA.

This has made for some "interesting" disciplinary decisions over the years, because everything has been dealt with by the FAW despite them competing in English competitions. Cardiff and Swansea have both had some rather generous decisions when it comes to rescinding red cards on appeal, although I believe the FAW has handed control of that over to the FA now to prevent the very clear conflict of interests!

Erm....any idea why there's been a re-issue of the "Appointment of Administrators" notice published on the London Gazette today for PFC 2010....? The only different to the one originally published on 24th February (here) is that Trevor Birch is no longer named as one of the administrators....has he thrown in the towel or something? Or perhaps he's made contact with Dan Williams again and is thinking of mounting a takeover bid himself? (ok, that's probably a conspiracy theory too far!)

Colwyn Bay & Mertyhyr Tydfil apparently still play in the English Leagues. I love being a pedant. Also, Aberdare Athletic were briefly (early 1920's) in the Football League.

Well if they disappear then TCWTB will no longer be on TV so she will get one request answered:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/mar/07/freeview-porn-ofcom-action

Caroline Dinenage, Conservative MP for Gosport and member of the parliamentary inquiry into online child protection, said there was an urgent need to address inappropriate television content.

Still looking to sign players i see!!!!!!!! So Kitson, Kanu, Benjani, Varney, Futaks, Etuhu and Bogard!! No money about to get liquidated and they are looking to sign 2 strikers by saturday on loan! Whilst Cov have a transfer embargo!

This is absolutely sickening. This was mentioned last night on BBC Solent, and the presenter quite rightly raised the issue "surely Kitson, Varney and Fuctacs is more than enough firepower"... they have more quality up front than most in the league... Rangers are letting players go, perhaps pompey should take a look at that shining example of reducing your outgoings.

Disgusting, shamefull, cheating little tinpot outfit.

Are the extra loan players and the removal of TB from administrators linked I wonder. Has TB finally said he has had enough with PFC bringing in extra loan players when he is trying his hardest to reduce outgoings. As has previously been said, even if there are no wages (not that PFC would pay them anyway) to pay there are still other costs to consider with extra players.

I think you're missing the point. They are loaning out big earners to reduce the wage bill and then presumably looking to take players on loan who they will either pay low wages or no wages at all (wages paid by parent club). The point is that they'll still have a team to put out, but that their wage bill will be much lower.

There's nothing against the rules, or even faintly dubious, about this.

Close them down.

so they took 1,340 to Reading and yet their fans always seem to be commented on in the media as if they are something special.

we took 4,203 to Reading (which was a late KO on TV) which was sold out , we could have taken more , yet they still go on about how amazing their support is.

However it could be hilarious - sit back and enjoy as Appleton loses the high earners, fills the squad to brimming with sh**e strikers and Pompey get their arses handed to them by every team they play.

Which of course is basically what ought to have happened last time they went into administration.

A day in which Football Fans can come together

Fans Reunited 3 - Portsmouth v Bristol City - Saturday 17th March 2012

The Pompey Supporters Trust in conjunction with @Fansreunited on Twitter would like to invite fans from all over the UK to come to Fratton Park and help support Portsmouth Football Club which is currently in Administration for the second time in 2 years and has grave doubts over its future.

When Plymouth Argyle faced extinction last year, a Fans Reunited day was organised whereby fans of all teams were encouraged to attend Home Park wearing their clubs’ colours. It was a show of solidarity amongst rival fans throughout the UK. Thousands of football fans attended, supporters of teams of all divisions, from the Premier League, down to non league. In total, at least 50 different teams were represented at the match, with fans travelling from as far away as Falkirk to show their support.

The supporters’ club laid on pre and post match festivities for all fans and a party atmosphere grew throughout the day. Rival fans stood shoulder to shoulder, ignoring their differences and proving that a shared love of football outshines any hostility. The atmosphere within the ground was electric, fans singing together as one voice, a multi-coloured stadium decorated with the shirts from 50 different clubs. The atmosphere spurred the players on and Argyle went on to win their first game of the season.

At a time when football fans are often portrayed as hooligans in the media, this was an example of the good side of football. The day was publicised throughout the National news, within local and National newspapers, radio stations and featuring on high profile television shows such as Soccer AM, the Football League show and Football Focus, gathering a lot of support as a result.

Every fan who attended this memorable day will tell you how much they enjoyed it and how successful it was. Shortly after, Plymouth were saved from extinction and now concentrate their fight on remaining in the football league.

It would be a great show of support from the Football family if we saw fans from all over the UK come to the South Coast and spend the afternoon enjoying a game of football and for 90 mins help us all forget footballs ills.

If you can't be there in person perhaps you might like to Donate to our Pay4aPal scheme that aims to allow fans to buy tickets for local kids, young adults and fans that either can't normally make a game due to hard times or are disadvantaged in some way.

You can either Donate via this link on our 12th Man website http://www.pompeys12thman.co,uk/pay4apal.php or by a cheque made out to the Pompey Supporters Trust addressed to :- PST, Unit 2, 15 Rodney Road, Portsmouth, PO4 8TB. Please mark the envelope Pay4aPal.
