Pompey Takeover Saga

My e-mail to No 10

Mr Cameron is obviously unaware of the true goings on at Portsmouth Football Club. To intervene in trying to rescue them would harm the integrity of the Football League and all other clubs that operate within the rules. It would also be an insult to Companies in all other industries who have made much more effort to balance the books but have been wound-up, many for much lesser amounts. Any intervention would create a dangerous precedent
. Can I expect a reply?

Dear Mr Cameron,

Your remarks concerning Portsmouth Football Club today are shocking.

This is an insolvent company which has previously taken HMRC for a haircut of some £25million. It did this by achieving a CVA to wipe off 80% of its unsecured debts the last time it was in administration (which was recently). It has not yet paid a penny of its CVA commitments to HMRC or the other creditors. It has now again elected to assume liabilities that give rise to tax obligations it cannot keep.

It is not surprising that the local MP seeks to curry favour over this issue but that the Prime Minister should be seen to glibly condone this behaviour is objectionable in any circumstance and obscene in the current mess. You should know that such nonsense is liable to lose you as many votes as it gains. Football clubs should not be given special treatment and taxpayers should not be expected to subsidise them.

I hope you will clarify your immoral comments soon.

Sincerely...

I think their policies oblige them to respond to all correspondence, though I expect it will come from a junior aide and will never have been within 30 metres of DC himself.

I emailed him as a resident of his constituency. I know for a fact that MPs have to respond to all correspondence from their constituents. It used to be within 2 weeks, but maybe the time period is shorter now due to us being in the electronic age?

James Pearce @Pearcesport

Redknapp first spoke about his Monaco account to Premier League's Quest inquiry, which was set up to investigate bungs in football

Redknapp said "I didn't have any bank statements (Monaco) to show them. I couldn't even remember what bank it was"

Redknapp told Court that all the Portsmouth transfers which were investigated by Quest were cleared

My one, not completely my own work...

Dear Mr Cameron

In PMQT today (1/2/12), this happened: "Tory Penny Mordaunt urges the PM to tell HM Revenue and Customs to meet Portsmouth FC to discuss how to keep the club afloat. Mr Cameron promises to do all he can to keep the club afloat" (BBC). As a director of a SME, I am appalled to see my Gov't and my Prime Minister take this stance. I believe Portsmouth FC reneged on circa £30-40m in taxes in their last insolvency event just two years ago, and now they are racking up more millions in tax debt and HMRC quite rightly have issued a winding up petition to protect the taxpayer. Portsmouth FC have yet again over spent on players and players wages and expect the tax payer to let them off paying their fair tax. I have recently just paid my tax bill and did not notice this option being available to me.

Kind regards

Not entirely convinced that account's actually him, seems to be one of those auto-generated ones that only ever gets used to post links to his articles.

No, he has some @-replies to people asking them to email him etc.

Not that Im suggesting we should at all use the media in that way...

David Brown @DavidhBrown

#Redknapp accountant told taxman in October 2007 that PAYE may be due on payments into Monaco bank

#Redknapp contacted by News of the World about Monaco account 2 days before Carling Cup final against Man Utd

#Redknapp: "I knew (News of the World reporter) was going to write something and I could do without that on the day of a cup final"

David Brown @DavidhBrown

#Redknapp shouts at police officer in court: "Stop staring at me. I know that you are trying to cause me a problem."

James Pearce @Pearcesport

That was a moment of court room drama. Redknapp has resumed his evidence now. His barrister has finished, so cross examination has begun

James Pearce @Pearcesport

The officer that Redknapp raised voice at is one of detectives involved in case. At the time Redknapp had been talking about his police interview

Penny Mordaunt, Conservative, Portsmouth North

“If the local supermarket closes down another quickly takes its place. If Portsmouth Football Club closes down Pompey fans will not be content with buying their season ticket from Southampton.

Will the PM add his voice to mine in calling for HMRC to meet with the club so it recoups the taxes it is owed, that out club survives and that the fans have its chance to become its owners.”

Prime Minister

“I will certainly do that and I think she is absolutely right to raise this issue. Knowing one or two Pompey fans I can completely understand. The idea that they can go and support Southampton it’s completely incredible and we must do everything we can to keep this friendly rivalry going.”

May I refer the 'honourable' member for Portsmouth North to her email to a Saints fan when she admitted her partner is a 'taxman' and the content of the email where she alluded to 'internal HMRC emails' - perhaps she can confirm how she obtained this information?

I cant recall our MP's asking questions of the then Labour PM when we were in trouble.

We now have had both Brown and Cameron commenting on Pompey .

Has anyone asked the Pompey MP explain how her husband got her those internal e-mails or do we only speak about it on here?

I would have thought a journo, probably DM or Guardian should get the answers.Anyone on here send them e-mails about it?

This is getting heated. Redknapp raising his voice as he replies to many of prosecution questions

Pros: "You talk about bonuses a lot". R: "Yes I do". Pros: "Maybe you're used to bonuses". R: "I am because I'm successful"

David Brown @DavidhBrown

#Redknapp: "Do you think I am silly enough that I wouldn't go along and close that account if I had anything to worry about?"

#Redknapp heated clashes as he tells prosecutor "you are not too sure where you are going"

Got a bad feeling that Redknapp will get off this. Obviously only going by tweets, but it seems the prosectutor is missing some obvious points and 'arry is playing to the crowd.

I believe he'll get off too. The whole defence case is geared around creating as much confusion as possible which obviously leads to an element of doubt. And, if there's an element of doubt then the jury can't find him guilty.

Going back to the rumour that CSI are to be liquidated next week.

Surely if you liquidate the parent company, you automatically liquidate (if you have not sold) the companies that it owns. Obviously if they are assets with value they would have been sold, but you can't liquidate the parent company and keep a subsiduary (sp?) company running. Can you...?

Prime Minister Backs Blues Survival Bid

Portsmouth Football Club today welcomed a call by Prime Minister David Cameron for HMRC to work with the club to help it survive.

Cameron told the House of Commons that it was vital the club continued and that HMRC should meet with the club to discuss its tax bill.

Pompey face a winding-up petition from HMRC on February 20. The club is seeking new owners and wants HMRC to give it more time to find a solution to its financial issues.

The club’s future was raised by Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt during Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons.

She said: “If a local supermarket closes down another quickly takes its place. If Portsmouth Football Club closes down, the Pompey fans will not be content with buying their season tickets from Southampton.

“Will the Prime Minister add his voice to mine in calling for HMRC to meet with the club so it recoups the taxes it’s owed, that our club survives and that the fans have their chance to become its owners.”

“The idea that they can go and support Southampton is completely incredible. We must do all we can to keep this friendly rivalry going.”

In learning of the support from Parliament, Pompey chief executive David Lampitt said: “I would like to place on record our thanks to Penny Mordaunt and to the Prime Minister for supporting the efforts of the club and its supporters in pursuing an exit route from its current circumstances.

“We will continue to do everything we can to that end, including working with HMRC and other creditors to ensure that the club has the time it needs.”

I would presume that if they are liquidated, then liquidators will be appointed. They will then "own" PFC2010 in the same way that UHY (AA) owns them now. Their objective will be to realise best value from the asset.

So much the same as it is now.

But it'll get really interesting if the liquidators are not UHY...
