Pompey Takeover Saga

Prime Ministers question time is just a scripted dance - local MPs to stand up and ask questions that will make them look good in their constituencies and the PM promises to raise it with the appropriate body. Normally it changes nothing (unless the PMs enquiry get addressed to a junior member of staff who then panics)

Why does it always come back to that mysterious £17 million?

Milan is a Serbian, I suppose he could have links to the Franco/Israeli/Russian Gadymack mob, who have links to Israeli/Beitar Jerusalem Chanrai, Azougy & Kushniar mob... but its always £17m! Even Al-Faraj joined the £17m club and he didnt even exist!

Tory Penny Mordaunt urges the PM to tell HM Revenue and Customs to meet Portsmouth FC to discuss how to keep the club afloat. Mr Cameron promises to do all he can to keep the club afloat

FFS, that is unbelievable... please dont let Pompey corrupt politics as much as they have football - Cameron you are playing a dangerous game now. Penny, quite frankly, you should be ashamed.

Ok. Time for someone to write to their MP to raise a question next week asking for the PM to protect the interest of UK taxpayers, local charities and businesses.....just for balance....

Absolutely, if not then it is confirmed by our Prime Minister that football is above the law. We should get Cortese on board, he can take them on and bang their heads together.

FFS - sickening, absolutely sickening

Mandaric's lawyers call 2 character witnesses. 1st is American. "Milan will race you up stairs in subway. Doesn't drive round in limousine"

That's end of Mandaric's defence. 10 minute break. Then Redknapp defence will begin and jury will be told if Redknapp will take the stand

To be slightly fair, he said "one or two" rather than "lots"

Think Dave's butler once bought a book on the ancient art of tattooing from a second hand book dealer in Petersfield and his nanny purchased their kids Xmas pressies from a recent Toy Fair and was served by our resident purveyor of inside gossip on all things PFC.

Seriously, i would suggest that you do write to your own mp and tell them how disgusted you are by this suggestion and ask them to write to cameron expressing your views.

I work for a saints supporting mp and i know that the more letters that we get on a topic the more impact it can

Have. There is no way that cameron can be seen to be siding with any football club - let alone them down the road - he needs to be enlightened as to the way they conduct themselves and to reprimand penny mordaunt for

Suggesting that not paying taxes is acceptable and that football clubs should be treated differently to the rest of us.

Just been investigating AA's role at Swindon. The comment on this interesting article claims it took them 8 years to pay back a CVA!!!

This AA quote is the best though (WARNING - Put down any hot drinks)

“Football in this country has neglected too many simple business rules. Players command big money and clubs have paid it in order to chase their dream. It is no co-incidence that so many clubs are in a state.”

From not knowing what happens with his money ("My accountant looks after that") to categorically knowing first hand that he always pays his tax. Make up your mind 'Arry. Either you know about your finances or you don't....

I write to express my disbelief that the PM should be indicating support for a business (Portsmouth FC) who have, for the second time inside a year, been handed a winding up petition for unpaid tax to HMRC. Surely it is the duty of a government to come down heavily on those who, quite calculatedly, pay for their own aggrandaisment before paying their statutory tax! Does this not convey the impression that paying of tax is optional?! I am appalled to think that the Prime Minister could condone this flagrant flouting of the law particularly in a time of severe constraints on the public purse and look forward to an explanation as to why it should be so?

Emerson, remember that in their current and previous incarnations it's now over £25 million in taxes they have not paid. That buys a lot of nurses and policemen. Oh, and that the overpaid millionaire footballers gave always, and will continue to be, paid in full.

So what happens if owners CSI are liquidated and there is no buyer for PFC. Without the support will they be part of that liquidation?

Surely not? Portsmouth Football Club (2010) Ltd and CSI are not a (*cough*) "single economic entity" (*cough*) and, as such, they are not reliant on funding from their parent company. So, they will simply carry on as a self-sufficient company in their own right....

Credit to those players involved...what could be better than players who want to play for the club....and not moneygrabbers like most of them....

In the same PMQ's Pennny was fighting against Navy cuts. (paid for with taxes that PFC don't pay)

This is way beyond my experience. (I've never gone bust, and always pay my taxes!) What is the status of a company if its shareholder/owner company ceases to exist?

Email to No 10 :

"I find it strange that in response to Ms Mordaunt's question regarding Portsmouth Football Club, the PM should intimate that the Government might intervene. The club is being pursued, not for the first time, for non-payment of revenue to HMRC, and I think it sends out completely the wrong message to infer that HMG might actively condone tax evasion. If this were an SME suffering the threat of a Winding Up order at HMRC's behest, would HMG similarly involve themselves ?"

I love the quote from this article:

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/great-matches/no_fire_sale_but_questions_remain_unanswered_1_3473874

"But while we can breathe a sigh of relief that no fire sale took place and the Blues still boast their best players, plenty of questions now need to be answered:

n How will Pompey alleviate their financial crisis having not received the expected windfall from player sales?"

That is as about the saddest bit of journalism, I've ever seen! The News just never fail to amaze me, how they will not write a single critical article on Pompey.

According to a written answer to parliament to the then Secretary of State for Home Department, the average annual cost of employing a police officer (including all grades) is £54,300. With the money the DCSBs have not paid we could have had an extra 115 police officers on our streets for FOUR years. Think how many crimes could have been prevented? Someone get into the Daily Mail ;)

Dear Mr Cameron

In PMQT today (1/2/12), this happened: "Tory Penny Mordaunt urges the PM to tell HM Revenue and Customs to meet Portsmouth FC to discuss how to keep the club afloat. Mr Cameron promises to do all he can to keep the club afloat" (BBC). As a Rugby man who see clubs heavily punished for insolvency, I am appalled to see my Gov't and my Prime Minister take this stance. I believe Portsmouth FC reneged on circa £30-40m in taxes in their last insolvency event just two years ago, and now they are racking up more millions in tax debt and HMRC quite rightly have issued a winding up petition to protect the taxpayer. In this age of austerity I find it rather sickening to hear my PM explicitly endorsing the evasion of tax, monies due to fund our great country. I do believe sporting bodies frown upon Gov't intervention? So spending cuts in health, service, education et al are fine as long as PFC can evade due taxes and pay footballers millions? Penny Mordaunt should be ashamed.. my name

I can't imagine that Cameron would intervene. Put on the spot on PMQ, he's bound to make the right noises.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't be surprised if the strikingly beautiful Penny Mordaunt was just feigning concern for Pompey in order to secure votes in the future. She did well in the 2010 General Election but the political lanscape will have changed dramatically next time round, and she needs all the help she can get.

Laughter in Court when Redknapp said Crouch had been good investment as he was "young, getting better and growing taller"

Redknapp said he was sent to Monaco bank to meet a Mr Cushdin. More laughter when R asked who he expected to meet. R: "Mr Cushdin"

Redknapp not given cheque book by bank. "Probably because I'd have left it on a deck chair when Sandra and I went to beach in afternoon"

POMPEY’S fight for survival has received backing from the Prime Minister.

David Cameron today said he will do all he can to keep the club in business in today’s Prime Minister’s Questions.

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt urged the Prime Minister to ask HMRC to meet with Pompey officials over the club’s winding-up petition over unpaid tax.

She said: ‘If a local super market closes down another quickly takes its place. If Portsmouth Football Club closes down the Pompey fans will not be content with buying their season ticket from Southampton.

‘Will the Prime Minister add his voice to mine in calling for HMRC to meet with the club so it recoups the tax it is owed that our club survives and that the fans have their chance to become its owners.’

The Prime Minister said: ‘I will certainly do that and she’s right to raise this issue. Knowing one or two Pompey fans I can completely understand the idea they can go and support Southampton is incredible and we will do everything we can to keep this friendly rivalry going.’

This is true by the way, someone actually saw it and this is from The News website..

Proof if anything that politicians are out of touch with reality! Lets see his views once hes read the full story. As for knowing a few portsmuff fans!!!! come on the bloke was educated at Eton the closest he came to knowing any was evicting them from his land!!!!

James Pearce @Pearcesport

Redknapp said in 2004 Mandaric told him he'd lost "millions and millions and millions" and had lost most of Redknapp's Monaco money

Redknapp said he told Jim Smith what Mandaric said. "Jim told me he probably hadn't put any money in in 1st place. We all started laughing"
