Pompey Takeover Saga

I'll bet a friendly pint Granty that within one week of our takeover we will have signed more players than in one week of yours?

I've heard that Dr Dolittle, has designs on a new Fratton shopping centre/flats/hotel.........maybe that's why he's letting the players go!!!!

I think you're on the right lines. I don't believe any of the players could be sold without Al Fahim's consent, given that he's looking to buy the club and any sale would affect the value he must give his OK and that would obviously affect what he's willing to pay. Not sure you're right about what we would have to spend to improve the squad. Johnson is a big loss but is only a right back and as I've said, the widely reported "exodus" of players is nearly all deadwood that never played for the first team (Djimi Traore anyone?). Look at it this way, the only reason Al Fahim would want us is if we're in the Prem - why would he fail to spend the money necessary to keep us there? It wouldn't make sense. Fans are naturally anxious to see what happens but if the takeover happens (and everything I'm told and read suggests it will) I'm confident we'll have enought o finish at least mid table. Don't believe we'll be making huge signings (as some on here seem to be saying I and other Pompey fans are suggesting - show me where I've posted that please) but we'll sign players good enough to do the job.

Ho, what I don't get is that you're currently supposed to be losing c. £2m a month, on top of the debt of the club (anything from £40m - £80m depending on what you read). Clearly with big earners off the books the wage bill will go down, and therefore the monthly loss will go down, albeit that there will need to be some sort of outlay on players, probably adding to the debt.

Additionally you need a new ground, which will cost anything from £50m upwards depending on how fancy it is. I suspect at todays prices you'll be nearer £75m.

On top of this you need a training ground at c. £10m.

I get the idea that Gaydamak is trying to recoup as much money as possible by selling the clubs better players, and that this will be reflected in the price of the club coming downwards. However, I can't see that with £40m - £80m debt + £75m for ground + £10m for training facility that the club is going to be worth more than a nominal amount. Factor in that the new owner will have to support the club to the tune of, say £1m a month for around 24 - 36 months whilst a stadium is being built, then you have a serious outlay.

If the club's only worth a nominal amount before player sales, how can the price come down any further than zero? I can't believe it was ever worth £60m.

So it's...

Good News: Pompey will have a new owner

Bad News: He hasn't got any money to replace the players that have been sold.

But I thought SG would only sell to someone that had the funding, not only to buy him out but undertake the funding of the new stadium complex, training ground and keep the club going in an upwardly mobile direction. Now he's taking what he can, pinching half the Sky money and getting as much as possible from player sales before he leaves. Mmmmm...........

to be fair the fans dont gve a toss what Gaydamek gets, it will mean nothing to them if he has to pay to sell it to the Dr. It is how much he is prepared/able to spend once he owns it.

It is interesting that Storrie sold it to him as not only the club but the city.Fir a man with an ego he would like that and I suspect he imagines there will be crowds in the streets lauding him.Probably shown a video of them bringing the cup home andi t is dubbed with a picture of the owner being fawned upon.

could we just clarify that their takeover hasn't collapsed and people should stop posting on here, all you are doing is adding to the thread for no reason other than filling space.

And some people write far too much to explain that simple fact.

They don't need to.

So it must stop.

Soon.

you're all wishing for too much.Accept their takeover will happen, Ho and co will come back and rub your noses in it when it does. If it does fall through we can show our sympathy.

You miss the point - it will be a good thing if the deal goes through as described on http://dralfahim.blogspot.com/. No money, no players, silly show-off in charge, where's the bad bit in that? Come on Dr A Fahim, I say

Think I would be angery if saints were in this position, even if they get the money by the 25th they are going to have a tough tough time. Happy days

Just imagine how bad it would have been now if they had got relegated. Sacha Gaydamak owes Paul Hart alot for keeping them up last season.

Very interesting to read some of the comments on there. Not so long ago, pompey were on the verge of relegation to tier 3 and financial obscurity, and we all know now how that feels. Yet some of these fans are still able to get 'angry' about the fact that some of the massive debt on which their recent success was built now needs to be serviced.

Instead of complaining, perhaps they should be grateful for some of the relative success they have enjoyed over the last few years, and accept that sometime the people that funded that success would need to be repaid.
