hutch Posted 3 August, 2016 Posted 3 August, 2016 I'm pretty sure there was no Tesco money in their accounts last year. Not suggesting there's anything dodgy, but curious.
Pamplemousse Posted 3 August, 2016 Posted 3 August, 2016 Big feature on South Today for their upcoming hopes. The fans basically saying 'this year is their year', the players want to do it for the passionate fans of the biggest club outside of London, the same old Portsmyths.
Golden Balls Posted 3 August, 2016 Posted 3 August, 2016 I've just been told (in all seriousness with no joking at all) that they've sold more season tickets than us? I just replied with "why lie?" I don't get it. 12k STs is a good effort for that level. Why not just enjoy that? Why make stuff up to pretend they're somehow bigger and better. Worst of all, they believe it.

rallyboy Posted 3 August, 2016 Posted 3 August, 2016 I was offered that ludicrous myth the other week so it is now a fact on Portsea. Tis written in stone, it cannot be denied...

The fans basically saying 'this year is their year', the players want to do it for the passionate fans of the biggest club outside of London, the same old Portsmyths. This year COULD be the year!!!!! The year that they rise up to the greater and more difficult challenge of, um, the THIRD tier........Baby steps, skates, baby steps. Maybe another couple of years practice at the very bottom would be a better idea.
Mr Biscuits Posted 4 August, 2016 Posted 4 August, 2016 Let's be honest. This year SHOULD be their year after 3 seasons of impressing us with their ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. If they truly have the resources they keep banging on about, constructing a squad to get out of league two is surely a mere exercise in bringing in the right players to compliment the wealth of talent they already have. Right?
Lets B Avenue Posted 4 August, 2016 Posted 4 August, 2016 Interviewed on Solent, Champagne Ian said that unless they get promoted this season "my tenure won't have been a success." Presumably the first 2 attempts don't count then.

Tbf, we've given away 23,000 season tickets to Syrian immigrants. It's a fact guv.

Given their level of support they are a natural Championship level team - but they are long way from having the infrastructure and organisation solid Championship teams have. If the fans could drop the delusions and get over themselves they could really enjoy the rise from the depths, just as we did. But they wont. They will always have a chippy resentment towards us, and thats why they'll always be funny.
TopGun Posted 4 August, 2016 Posted 4 August, 2016 Two more players signed - that's 11 over the summer, the full set. Strange for a team that was going to sign just a few additions and go away for a summer camp to train, not gel. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/pompey/pompey-seal-double-swoop-1-7511422 More evidence of an unfit skipper at the helm perhaps?
Gemmel Posted 4 August, 2016 Posted 4 August, 2016 (edited) When in doubt ........ Spend Edited 4 August, 2016 by Gemmel
buctootim Posted 4 August, 2016 Posted 4 August, 2016 More evidence of an unfit skipper at the helm perhaps? Bit harsh. He's probably reasonably competent when sober
Ohio Saint Posted 4 August, 2016 Posted 4 August, 2016 Bit harsh. He's probably reasonably competent when sober Screw the skates, I'm putting that on my OWN CV!!.......I feel I am a good team player, reasonably competent when sober. Now I'll just wait for the job offers.

Pamplemousse Posted 5 August, 2016 Posted 5 August, 2016 For most optimistic, substitute it for most deluded
Pamplemousse Posted 5 August, 2016 Posted 5 August, 2016 Surely there is some sort of mistake? Only one of their matches being the most anticipated?! And only in third place?! This cannot be correct
buctootim Posted 5 August, 2016 Posted 5 August, 2016 Surely there is some sort of mistake? Only one of their matches being the most anticipated?! And only in third place?! This cannot be correct First should be "Sticking pins in my eyes" surely?
Waterside.saint Posted 5 August, 2016 Posted 5 August, 2016 For most optimistic, substitute it for most deluded #deludedmost
Danbert Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 They're not deluded at all, Pompey are actually the biggest club in League 1. "I stepped down because of the potential. If we get promoted to League One, who will be the biggest club in that division? I’m already there."

I think what p!sses people off is their incessant 'we're the biggest/bestest/noisiest/best-loved/most-supported/most-deservingest/most-entitledest/most-cup-winningest...' sorry I've just lost the will to live
rallyboy Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 That is the funniest addition to the media template that I've seen in ages! Nice to see the old favourites are still there though - passion, sell-outs, sleepy giant, massive wage increase etc.
TopGun Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 I might have read this before. ‘But when a club of Portsmouth’s size come calling you can’t really turn it down. ‘It’s great to get it done and I’m looking forward to getting going. ‘The club speaks for itself. You only have to look at the fanbase. ‘It’s a massive club which shouldn’t be in this league. Read more at: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/pompey/new-defender-s-pompey-promise-1-7514048
Pamplemousse Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 ‘The club speaks for itself. You only have to look at the fanbase' TCWTB speaks for the state of the club alright.
nta786 Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 What a start for the Fratton Park faithful Losing at home to Carlisle atm 1-0
Pamplemousse Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 The referee has clearly been overawed by the occasion by not disallowing that goal, whilst Carlisle are upping their game in the biggest match of their careers
CB Fry Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 I know for a fact Carlisle have never played in a cup final like this before.
whelk Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Carlisle will never have experienced sunny weather either. I assume most of the faithful will be bare breasted in such conditions
CumbrianSaint Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Please let this be the day I've waited for the past couple of years
buctootim Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Currently 23rd of 24 in the 'As it Stands' League 2 table. Only 45.5 matches to go!
The9 Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Hm, and have been playing against 10 men since the 29th minute. Still only 1-1 at the moment though, but I can't see them not winning it against 10 even with Carlisle's goal threat.
The9 Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 So, how late do we reckon they're going to get this winner against ten men, at home? 84 minutes on the clock, an hour against 10 men so far.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 The open top bus " we got a point" parade is looking likely
The9 Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Somewhat distracted by Newport conceding a 93rd minute goal at home.
Crab Lungs Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Joint top again. Only a point, but it was the bestest point in the world so it's worth 2 bonus points... It's just that the conniving, dastardly FA are unlikely to award them to bonus points as its not in the football association rule book.
Pamplemousse Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Joint top after 1 game, despite plucky Carlisle with 10 men kicking lumps out of the heroic blue heroes and heroically battling back at the park, spurred on by a 200,000 sell out bestest fans roaring them on to victory to get a point, no thanks to the referee who is conspiring with the EFL and Sky to stop them on their deserved path to promotion.
The9 Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 LOLz. 1-1. Playing an hour at home against 10 men. Lovely stuff.
andysstuff Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Oh my days, looks like to be a bumper season of near misses for the phew again. The joke that just gets better and better.
Pamplemousse Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Oops, reports on twitter suggests a few boos as well at the final whistle
Saints Fan Dan Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 They had 22 shots to Carlisle's 2. I think I can hear the boos from here
andysstuff Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Oops, reports on twitter suggests a few boos as well at the final whistle Must have been the Carlisle fans. We know they NEVER boo their own. [emoji12]
Crab Lungs Posted 6 August, 2016 Posted 6 August, 2016 Oops, reports on twitter suggests a few boos as well at the final whistle Nope, it was just the most passionest doing the Icelandic chant without any breaks in the 'oooooooh-ing' ... Definitely not boos.
