The Fratton heroes had sold out our ground, all 32,000, but it was also half empty as we had stolen most of tickets back, and given them away for free to asylum seekers. The Noble warriors proceeded to smash us 20-0, while the 3 best players to ever live, Thierry Henry, AC Milan and Paul Merson, cheered on the bestest fans in world football from the sidelines.While Liam sold tickets for the after-party But then the Corrupt conspiracy of the FA and the Referees decided to punish them twice for the same crime, by altering the official (but not common knowledge) records, and altering everybody's memory of the events through military tech disguised as goal-line technology. Now only a few Independent thinkers at Fortress Fratton remember the true course of events.

The result was Saints missing out on promotion to the Premier League and was enough to keep them up. Then, we used our black box technology to fiddle with the mainframe and insert ourselves into the Premier League and them in League 1. No-one except our plucky beautify scented neighbours noticed due to some sort of diversion tactic involving a whale in a bikini and a bandstand full of 3-fingered mutants.

Not West Ham tasty, but I'd be surprised if the evening is incident-free. You weren't wrong there, Paul Wotton and Cook sent to the stands within 15 minutes (and a dodgy looking headbutt thing by one of Plymouth's eventual scorers unpunished).

Yes indeed, and with Wigley in charge, no less. If we'd averaged the same number of points against other teams as we got in the 2 matches against them, we'd have stayed up comfortably (actually top half). Oh, and we beat them in the cup that year. Anyway, they did get the last laugh. As they keep reminding us, Norris's world famous last gasp equaliser deprived us of promotion in 2012, and also saved them from relegation that year. The pain of that will never go away.

They forget that season we knocked them out of the FA cup. And the only win Steve Wigley ever got as manager for us was against them in that season. The table doesn't lie, as they say. We finished 2 points behind West Brom. Had we won the last game we'd have stayed up. Our destiny was in our own hands. We sent ourselves down. But they'll never ever accept it because, ya know, Portsmyth.

I doubt they'll bother to retrospective it, it's the L2 Playoffs, no-one's watching. Well, I was, until we put Hollyoaks and yesterday's Eastenders on. Re: colour clash, yeah, it's not like the dark green and white stripes clashes, but the FL's stupid shorts clash rules force teams to change kits more than necessary and they'll take any chance to try and flog an away kit.

There was plenty of good football at Fratton when Newport stuck 3 on them a few months back. Re: first leg - I did say they couldn't create anything - one Plymouth player giving the ball away on the edge of the box and one penalty. 2-2 isn't the worst result for them as Plymouth will need to score and might get picked off. Or it could be a really dull 0-0 and go all the way to penalties - but there's usually a defensive error or 6 in L2 somewhere.

From seeing Plymouth twice earlier in the season (away to Notts County and away to Newport) they looked like exactly the same sort of side as the Skates, lots of quick dribbling but no particular passing creativity. Then again at the time Plymouth were top. Plus as I may have mentioned I saw 22nd placed Newport win by 3 goals at Fratton, so...

All that matters is though is who wins and if Plymouth can bully their back four a little more I can see them getting the goals they need. The skates new loan keeper had a bit of mare in the first half but went untested in the second.

FloridaMarlin Posted 13 May, 2016 Posted 13 May, 2016 I seem to recall going down to the Corrugated Cardboard Cabin in April 1976, a couple of weeks before the FA Cup Final, and in a game where a young Steve Williams made his debut, Mick Channon's goal in a 1-0 Saints win confirmed P****y's relegation to Division 3. I went with a couple of mates and we had to stand on what was then the north terrace as the Milton End was packed with Saints fans. This was after the police had escorted us past a seething, foaming Fratton End. Channon's goal was quite late in the game and we had to stifle our cheers. It was nice to know that while we were heading off to the Cup Final and glory, they finished rock-bottom of Division Two were beginning their painful slide down an unvarnished banister with no pants on, to their first spell in English football's lowest tier. Although they survived in Division 3 in 1976-77 by the skin of their teeth, they finished bottom of Division 3 and fell through the trapdoor into Division Four in 1977-78 - the same year we were promoted back to the old First Division. So I think we can argue that on that April night in 1976, we pulled out the first jenga brick that brought their house down all the way to Division 4.

Going on and on about how they don't get the 50/50 decisions at home because the refs are overawed by the atmosphere. Then some stupid statement that he had counted 27 such decisions this season and they had only got 2. Utter utter garbage. The mythmaking happens at all levels.
