Good work everyone - and another gem from Rallyboy.

 

It's the skates own fault - I'd have kept quiet about those facilities frankly, for a club that has the 'aspirations' they have. That, and the Spinnaker 'going red and white' have given this thread fresh content. We don't need to generate content here - the skates offer it to us gift wrapped.

That's because it's CURRENT, currently they're in the process of building back up to being horrendously run, a cynic might claim they need to learn where they can cheat first.

 

They'd be in the top 3 of all-time terribly run clubs, there's still only one club that's managed to go into administration whilst in the Prem and therefore whilst actually receiving Premier League tv money (as opposed to just parachute payments) for a start, and the 3 relegations in 4 seasons takes some beating. Even the late 70s/early 80s meltdowns at Wolves and Bristol City where they plummeted weren't on the same massive scale of over-expenditure and for relative pittances. No-one else has written off anything like the same amount of debt as they did, either.

 

Let's also not forget that no-one really notices what happens in League Two.

So on the night we start our European adventure in front of a sell out crowd , a Portsmouth XI take on my local conference south team Eastbourne Borough in a friendly in front of a couple of hundred people.

 

And they still think it was worth it.

Has their capacity been set for next season yet?

 

It is a bit problematic at the moment. They issued a family season ticket. Three people bought one, meaning that they have effectively sold 40,000 seats for the price of three if all their brother sister wife husbands all turn up on the same day.

No mention of a refund on the season ticket. Effectively looks like a plan to sell the same seat twice in a bid to get over 100% attendance for some matches.

So, basically, the same practices used in the airline industry of overbooking seats and hoping not everyone turns up - if they do, then put them on the next flight - in their case, give them a ticket to the next [not sold out] game.

 

Struggling to find anything 'innovative' about this unless of course their plan will be to do this the bestest in the world...

Please note that once you have given permission for the seat to be released for a particular fixture you will not be able to change your mind!

 

Presumably their advanced electronic turnstiles and ticketing system will prevent the entry of any season ticket holder whose seat has been sold to someone else? #innocentquestion

I think I've worked out how they keep claiming a sell out on season tickets and a waiting list.

 

They only actually sell one family ticket. Because they are all so inbred, it covers everyone.

Robinson was decent for us but I didn't see him to be as good as many on here said. He was pretty solid but nowhere near as commanding as is being suggested.

no doubt the tickets with the highest face value will be sold first. I'm sure the s/t holders in the best seats (lol) will be delighted when mates of the smelly bell owner sit in that section.

 

As for the picture of the fans in the News article are shielding their eyes so that they don't have to watch. Fantastic bit of selling, you buy a seat and spend a lot of the match shielding your eyes

If you can't attend, the club sells your seat...isn't that the same service that we and presumably many others offer?

 

 

I'm guessing the last time they filled their ground was when we played there, the season ticket holders who have suffered every other game since are pretty unlikely to miss their next big match against Sandbach Services, Lego Land or Greendale.

It's certainly a puzzle. With 250000000 loyal fishfolk packing the picturesque streets of folkloric Fratton for each home game, how can they fairly and equitably manage the demand? The plan to resell each treasured seat many times over will only work as long as they can persuade the authorities its OK for them to be stacked to the rafters on each others laps, another stroke of genius will soon be needed to prevent the entire unholy edifice crumbling under its own weight anyway.

I was going to look at The PFC X1 line up to see how strong the team was, then it dawned on me I that don't actually know the name of a single player in their star studded squad :lol:

Doesn't seem to feature on the Pompey News site but they do have a story about the Portsmouth Walking Football team's recent success although they had to borrow a keeper from Eastleigh

Good point. I'm surprised the football league gave this scheme the go ahead if it means they cant guarantee stopping more people getting into the ground than they are licenced for. (They did run it by the football league first, one assumes....)

They are playing the mighty Gillingham today .... still 0-0 after an hour. Soe liitle snippets from The Snooze.

 

Pompey in white shirts, white shorts and RED socks ..... oh dear there will be petitions to be signed later at this outrage!!!

 

Gillingham get the game underway at a SPARSE Priestfield, which is bathed in summer sunshine ....... there must be thousands still stuck in traffic jams trying to get to see this match.

 

Rob, I'd expect it to be a busy week in terms of transfer activity! ....... Looks like its spend spend spend time again :mcinnes:

immediately behind us in the stands was Pompey's finest.... not!

 

Little rotund bald man with the foghorn voice - starts by attacking all Pompey fans because him and his cronies are PROPER fans, go to every away game blah expletives blah blah, go to Carlisle blah expletives blah blah .

 

Then goes on to how much he hates Kent, letting immigrants in blah blah blah

 

Repeat, repeat etc. etc. Tuned him out.... very difficult mind, his voice is like a bloody foghorn...... then goes on about the home fans, library blah blah blah, if they were singing we would never have heard over his booming voice anyway.

 

Tune back in and hear all the scummer songs..... really? The only ones who appeared to be listening to them were the two 6 year olds in front of us.

 

Even his friends were telling him to shut up or they'd be taken out the ground. Stewards had enough and escorted him somewhere else until half time.

 

He came back, under escort for the second half and was much quieter, but most of his time was spent effing about the PC brigade.

 

What was most interesting though was everybody elses's body language - they tuned him out, no-one so much as glanced at him. They watched the game. He and his buddies were too busy being Proper Pompey!

 

And that, my fellow POLsters is why I reckon the ground is quiet - because the loud ones are just so goddam BORING!!

Who was it that predicted that fans would start fighting amongst themselves, as they demonstrated at their friendly against Gillingham, and that there would be fighting within the PST? It wasn't those jealous bitter scummahs, surely not? :lol:

This new idea of selling tickets twice is getting complicated, Liam Lawrence is going to have to stay on top of it or general sales will be all over the place.

I just saw that Pompey were held to a 0-0 draw at Gillingham yesterday.

 

I didn't realise they were actually the underdogs.

I can't see the problem, it. Is just a simple transfer of ticket and only issued once, although of course the S/t holder may well use this as a guise to get some freebie in,eg 2tickets for the price of one
