They need 4 wins in their last 4 games to have a mathematical chance of the play offs.

They're not going to make the play offs and they wouldn't even if they did win four in a row.

Perfect. Results elsewhere in L2 have not been kind to them :D so they're in the hideous position of not being able to relax for a second because there is still a notional, if wafer thin, chance of them making play-off heaven. Oh deary deary me

I know, and when Stevenage confirm it next week by removing the last possible scrap of hope I will give a little cheer.

Morecambe!

A moderately well run club with a recently built stadium beat a bunch of mercenary cast-offs who are based in a hovel.

( Only Fleetwood's ground is nearer to my house than the Globe - at least as the seagull flies ).

Wahay! The skates must have been playing all the right passes but not necessarily to the right players. Bring me sunshine...

No disrespect intended! :)

Every club is in their specific division on merit, we were playing in League One because that was our level.

But some clubs think they are not only bigger than their division, with a divine right to beat 'smaller' clubs, but they also bang on with the deluded notion that they have the best fanbase in world football.

When all of that smug arrogance is buried by a club fairly new to league football, it makes it even funnier.

Maybe, but I think you'll find that their brand of arrogance is the bestest, most hubric and karmic kind of smugness that ever was

How many 'cup finals' have the skates lost this season ?

Not safe for those with hangovers, the bestest in tinpottery:

So the bestest went on a 600 mile round trip to support just under a dozen talentless misfits, and ended up getting more entertained by a group of 40 something, fat blokes with no sense of music or timing. Says a lot about the quality of the football and the average pompey fan...

... but of course they much prefer it to being in the Premier League.

Andy Awford is considering a shake-up after the Morecambe disappointment.

Not quite what he had in mind!

I four one would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his fine work in returning pompey to where they belong.

Good god :mcinnes:

If anything sums up just how small time they are, and how dirty, ugly and disgusting 99% of the PO postcode is, then it's that video.

Awford sacked. Tail wagging the dog as ever down there.

Pompey were planning to pull the trigger on the former defender when they mathematically couldn’t reach the play-offs.

Not if, when. Seriously, what? If you know you're not going to make the play-offs, why wait?

And, from the comments section on the story:

Now please go and get Nigel Adkins before he is offered employment elsewhere.

:uhoh:

Oh, and:

Pity he's lost to the club tho. Would like to have seen him go back to the academy. Bought some good players through.

Oh please get Redknapp in, please, please please...page 3000 here we would come!

Spiritual home, no money, a*se end of the league so deserving of where he should be...if only, won't happen because he's got a bad knee!

We must now hire a decent ,proven, manager -after all we are a unique top club.

Saturdays game was a blow - lowly Morecambe wanting to play us every week.

What a bitter pill to swallow?

Saints did it,Bournemouth are doing it; even non league Eastleigh have said Pompey would hold no fears for them.

With players like Wallace,Tubbs and Taylor at our disposal at least we have a good basic attack.

Sorry for Mr.AA of course, but he knew it was a gamble before taking the job,and after all it is not the end of the world. I bet the payoff was more than just all right.

Time now for a bit of class in the management side and also the players.

We the supporters deserve this.

Tomahawk.....we are not a top club at all and as fans, we need to get this ridiculous idea out of our heads! Up there with the legends, are you drunk!! We are a small city club with a small fan base, who has achieved a small amount of success. We are not a big club at all.

Is this good news? Will the next manager be as Awful?

Seems fairly clear that Gary Waddock will get the job on a permanent basis, he's got a fair amount of experience at that level already, and won promotion with Wycombe in 2010/11.

I heard a rumour a few weeks ago that there is a deal already done with Gary Johnson to take over in the summer...

But if Pellegrini or David Moyes become available in the meantime no doubt the sleepiest giant in world sport will pounce!

That's of course if the job isn't too big for them.

What with their history.

Their fanbase.

And all that.

Good times for pompey, less of a sacking, more of a giant step back towards the Premier League.

Where they don't want to be.

Because League Two is proper football.

Makes me jealous.

We will have to accept that one season they will come up to the dizzy heights of L1. Annoyingly Waddock does seem perfectly capable of delivering it.

What, the Gary Waddock who was definitely not joining the club as a replacement for AA.

Didn't Richie Barker get Craley out of league 2? Maybe Waddock is as good as him...

Well, quite. Ready-made replacement, and we all know that McInnes and Awford fell out ages ago.

No, that was Steve Evans, sadly.
