OldNick Posted 16 October, 2013 Posted 16 October, 2013 If his contract runs down in the summer what is he worth? £1m?
Tokyo-Saint Posted 16 October, 2013 Posted 16 October, 2013 Aren't they a category D club meaning they get a load of bibs and training cones as a development fee?
rallyboy Posted 16 October, 2013 Posted 16 October, 2013 that could be quite significant - if they could get bibs and cones they just need a whistle and a little crate for carrying drinks and they could open an academy, in the local park.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 16 October, 2013 Posted 16 October, 2013 Errrrm don't think so RB. They will end up on eBay obviously.
The9 Posted 16 October, 2013 Posted 16 October, 2013 If his contract runs down in the summer what is he worth? £1m? Nowt. From a development perspective, how much did we get for Gobern from Huddersfield? As he was a borderline League One player in a side that got promoted, I reckon about 2/3rds of that for a regular in a mid-table League 2 side who plays in more or less the same position.
hypochondriac Posted 16 October, 2013 Posted 16 October, 2013 Apparently there is a petition with 2000 signatures against the new tesco development as it will harm local traders. Here is a charming reply from pol: I'm pretty sure the council will back the club on this. The butchers should be fine but perhaps a boycott by Pompey fans would help to concentrate the minds of shopkeepers down there? I don't live locally but do use that butcher occasionally. If they're going to try to delay the club's efforts to modernise the stadium then I certainly won't be using them from now on and would urge others to stop shopping there. Community club???
Tokyo-Saint Posted 16 October, 2013 Posted 16 October, 2013 I saw that am V. eager to sign this petition. Those poor local business have been through enough with those ****s over the years.

rallyboy Posted 16 October, 2013 Posted 16 October, 2013 that greedy butcher is having a slice of the £13M generated for him by the club at every home game - he should be paying the Trust just to have a shop in the same city. £300M a year!- surely the traders can give up some of that so that the highest paid keeper in League Two can have some more shiny tat for his mock-tudor living room?

Finally, The Mouthpiece of Poopey has spoken. They are now following a different club to the one that won the cup. PFC has a glorious history of about 1/5 of a season, and has spent its entire lifetime languishing in league 2.

I'd love to be able to prove to my Portsmouth 'friends' that they were overspending on wages again. Not sure but I'm still trying to figure out why Allen is telling us that "operating turnover does not include aged debt". Yes but that is true of every business in the land. Debt isn't turnover, he's an accounting Sherlock Holmes. If wages really are 30% of 5.5m (=1.6m to 1.7m) then why are they still making such a stonking great loss? Have any figures actually been published into the public domain? Or is he just referring to various numbers that have been quoted to the public by board members or other sources "close to the club" from time to time? I haven't been following as closely as I used to, but I haven't seen any published figures. It does seem to me, as a non-accountant, that his statements are confusing the situation, either deliberately or through ignorance. Even I know what "operating profits" and "operating losses" are, but I have never heard of "operating turnover" as a recognised accounting term. Did he make it up? Is it IADOPP? I don't think we would get any real useful information from this season's audited statements, if and when they ever file any, because of the overwhelming effect of the last parachute payments, and the short- and medium-term legacy debts. Next year's figures will be much more telling, if they get that far, when their income will only be gate money + commercial revenue. In my opinion that is what is scaring the sh*t out of the board, when they compare this year's outgoings with next year's income. I am, however, extremely confident that things are not as rosy financially as they would like us to believe. Sh*t and fan normally conspire to meet up just before or just after Christmas for struggling football clubs, when the season ticket money is long gone, and they have exhausted all other possible avenues to borrow some money, including the Bank of HMRC.
