I can't wait for Accrington Stanley v Portsmouth on Sky Sports 12:00 next Saturday.

A real bottom of the table relegation ****-sandwich of a game.

 

And James Beattie in charge of Accrington...

Just heard news, oh that's unlucky. What a shame.

 

But to look at it another way it was a good result for Oxford on what I'd imagine would have been billed by some as 'their cup final'.

Can't see the point of expansion at the moment as they were bound to get a full house in the first match anyway (Oxford have sold out the away end too!) owing to the 'feelgood factor' etc..

Sensible business people would surely let things settle and take a mean average after say, 3 to 6 months, rather than have a kneejerk reaction to what is (probably) an exceptional set of circumstances !

I really will wet my pants if they lose their first 3 or 4 matches :)

Sullivan - 3 - couldn't catch a cold today.

Moutoakil - 2 - excellent first 35 mins, shocker after

Devera - 1 - worst debut since Linvoy. Lets hope he improves like Sir L.

Bradley - 3 - should be no more than backup.

Butler - 2 - mugged all afternoon by Potter.

Wallace - 2 - shadow of himself today.

Ertl - 3 - didn't protect the defence as usual. Not a red; only had eyes for the ball.

Ferry - 6 - tidy little player. Will be great in this league.

Barcham - 5 - great cross for goal. Could be a decent signing.

Aygemang - 4 - great header, but barely in the game.

Connolly - 3 - same as Paddy, but without the goal.

 

It would seem some of the new signings might not be all that bestest after all.

 

Also

I know he is one of our own, he has come from the youth team and you are not allowed to criticise young players, but I have to say it, Butler is simply not good enough. It is OK saying he will learn and he is still young, which is fair enough, but I do not think we can afford to wait for him to learn and improve.

 

Please not doubting the "academy" already, giving up on the kids after a single game, no doubt there is some 33 year old conference reject that will be lined up already.

 

And finally, this is the phew we know and love.

 

I don't particularly want to write him off after one game, but Sullivan worries me greatly. A new CB and GK seem mandatory if we are to get anywhere this year.

 

Now where can I find the facepalm?

You know jolly well that we are only laughing at them because we are deeply jealous of them. Must be the case as Corp and pfc 123 have said so.

We may not have 4 seen the result, but deep down, everyone on here knew what was going to happen today.

 

Oldnick must be rolling in the deep in his angst between getting away with it and continuing to be a laughing stock.

 

We know it. Mack knows it.

 

They may have a moment next week but the fact is.

 

It's gonna keep getting worse.

 

And then the off the pitch games will start.

I don't think any of us nut jobs doubt the genuine commitment that Guy has to the Pompey cause and that makes him far more upstanding than Appleton Mack. The problem is that he is a coach and not a manager. I think he made a knee jerk reaction to the last two summers also by grabbing out of contract players very early on. He's stuck with them now unless Champagne Ian decides to recover money meant for current and immediate creditors. He might be putting a call into Portsmouth Council on Monday though ;)

Hi peeps, I was at Newport v Accrington today, and apart from the collateral damage to James Beattie, it was a wonderful day for Football in League 2. We were all loving the news from Fratton that was filtering through.

 

Anyway, you may have seen they did some hilarious mural pre-match proclaiming "OURS" across the one stand, not true etc but anyway not even the point after today's result... I have had a little photoshop...

Newport top, Skates bottom. That was the note Brightspark had pinned to the living room door when I woke up this morning here in Brisbane. Carlsberg don't do football results.....

Expect some more amazing 'ways they can find to do things' on Portsea Island shortly. Admin 4, coming to a morally bankrupt laughing stock of a football club at the end of the M27 soon....it's the Comedy of the Year. Again.

Welcome back to the new season nut jobs and Mack. Remember Norwich got tanked in their first home game before winning the league. Probably wont happen here but it is the hope that kills them. :)

My concern if things don't "gel"by mid season is we have few options compared to other clubs. Because the FL have curbed our transfer activity we will not be able to wheel and deal even at the limited level of Div 4. We may be stuck with what we have. Not time yet for full on panic though, save that for next week ;)

Golden moment Nutjobs!

 

Saints are currently joint 1st in Premier League, Pompey 23rd in League Two. The 91 places between them is the largest its ever been since Pompey established 115 years ago in 1898! :p

 

There is plenty of life left in this thread.

Some good stuff in this match report in the Indie

 

They began to leave a quarter of an hour from the end, to a mocking chorus of "is there a fire drill?" from 2,500 Oxford supporters. So much for solidarity, and the common cause of the common man.

OK I know it's only one game but........

I fully expected that our fishy friends to walk this league (whilst obviously hoping that they would crash & burn instead).

However after watching the Football League show this morning - yes just too watch "the bestest" streaming out (they didn't show that bit) -I have to be honest and say that there are some decent teams in it and I am now quite happy in the belief that the skates have a long and difficult season ahead.

I am sure we can recommend a goalkeeper for them, didn't we have an up and coming one last year that went to a League 2 club ?

 

Seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth too, Gillingham offered him a contract but he doesn't seem to have signed it.
