ladysaint Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 a former director of the plc will be returning as Chairman, and I am not talking RL - has anyone else heard anything.
benjii Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Trant? Construction link? EDIT: He wasn't on PLC board actually? Was he? Dunno. Oh, I see, you've said Oldknow.
stevegrant Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 I've read it on somebody's Facebook status - I wouldn't necessarily take that as gospel Would be a very bizarre appointment, given that this person (to my knowledge) has never held the position of chairman before.
OldNick Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 God that would really pi## off the staff . I do hope you are wrong.
SaintRobbie Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 God that would really pi## off the staff . I do hope you are wrong. Wouldnt it just, they hated him.
ladysaint Posted 8 July, 2009 Author Posted 8 July, 2009 I've read it on somebody's Facebook status - I wouldn't necessarily take that as gospel Would be a very bizarre appointment, given that this person (to my knowledge) has never held the position of chairman before. I didnt read it on fb Steve and have heard it from more than one person who I trust. I agree no experience as Chairman but then again you could argue neither did MLT but what AO said about fans -v- corporates I could never forget.
Badger Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 what andy oldknow ? That name was mentioned on here last night. Whilst happy to bow to the new owners's wishes I hope it is not Oldknow as the majority of references to him on the boards suggested he was a pretty objectionable bloke and hated by many at St Mary's.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Oldknow has been suggested on other threads as he made the link between us and our new owner, would deserve A position don't you think ?

Haha - that is how such an overwhelming amount of guff gets posted on here. A tells B. B tells C and D. D tells A. A feels more confident and tells C. C likewise, who has in the meantime told F, G and H. H has also heard it from B and posts something on here. D, C, A, F and G corroborate it on here. The Echo runs with it.
Papa Shango Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 I didnt read it on fb Steve and have heard it from more than one person who I trust. I agree no experience as Chairman but then again you could argue neither did MLT but what AO said about fans -v- corporates I could never forget. What did he say?
OldNick Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Oldknow has been suggested on other threads as he made the link between us and our new owner, would deserve A position don't you think ? if that is the case then perhaps
Mr Nice Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 He wasnt well liked by the SMS staff from what i remember. He also had a rather chequered past in employment. He 'was' working at Leicester City from what i can remember.
SaintRobbie Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Oldknow has been suggested on other threads as he made the link between us and our new owner, would deserve A position don't you think ? Ask the staff. Answer... NO.
stevegrant Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 I didnt read it on fb Steve and have heard it from more than one person who I trust. I agree no experience as Chairman but then again you could argue neither did MLT but what AO said about fans -v- corporates I could never forget. To be honest, from the commercial side of things he's actually got a very good track record. From the stories that have done the rounds, his man management skills aren't quite as good If, as has been suggested, he made the link between the club and Liebherr then I don't think many people would be in a position to argue with him getting some sort of tangible reward for it - whether that would be the chairman's job is another matter.
ItchenRob Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Oh please no ! Have had dealings in a work capacity. He never let ignorance of the facts stand in his way in having an opinion on something.
exit2 Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 I have the company director listing and he isnt on there yet, there is just a company secretary and one named director. The company secretary is down as DM COMPANY SERVICES (a non trading company???)http://bizzy.info/uk/companies/dm_company_services_london_limited/co_no/02535994/ The one director is a guy called Michael Barron who has loads of past directorships so think he just sets up companies ready for use I suspect this is a compnay that has been set up ready for the swiss guys to move into already. So new directors will be appointed if you want it pm me
thegaffer Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 if that is the case then perhaps Nick M.O. spoke to him this afternoon.
Weston Saint Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Interesting Jan becasue I was told of his possible involvement a few weeks ago. I was told by someone with connections to SMS that when Oldknow worked there he had registered to TSW. If that is correct and the name that person gave me is correct he regularly logs into this site including today. And in case anyone asks on here or by PM, no I will not release his registered name. I have not disclosed it to anyone before and will not now. Anyway, I could be wrong but it is beginning to add up!
stevegrant Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 He put the Swiss deal together. That may well be the case - and if so he rightfully deserves thanks for doing so - but I strongly suspect that Liebherr hasn't made his fortune by appointing people to positions who are either unsuitable or not experienced enough for that position. Oldknow clearly has some "baggage" from his previous stay here, and some may argue that his role in putting Liebherr in the frame here is repayment for the substantial payoff he and the other executive directors received from the club when they were removed 18 months ago, when they'd spent money we didn't have and led to us spiralling to where we currently find ourselves - bottom of League One.
Gingeletiss Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Confirmed....AO is the new Chief operating officer!!!!....on SSN now
stevegrant Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Well he is on SSN now Chief Operating Officer! Well that's quite a bit different from Chairman or CEO, so "meh".
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Oldknow clearly has some "baggage" from his previous stay here, and some may argue that his role in putting Liebherr in the frame here is repayment for the substantial payoff he and the other executive directors received from the club when they were removed 18 months ago, when they'd spent money we didn't have. But now we have money, spend away I say !!!
saints_is_the_south Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Well he is on SSN now Chief Operating Officer! Also on South Today now.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Andy Oldknow, new CEO. Just been confirmed Andy Oldknow will be COO Easy to get confused on here
Weston Super Saint Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Interesting Jan becasue I was told of his possible involvement a few weeks ago. I was told by someone with connections to SMS that when Oldknow worked there he had registered to TSW. There was a time that I was accused of being AO My accuser was absolutely adamant and would not accept 'no' for an answer!
exit2 Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 well I know some are not happy with his involvement. I personally have had a "heated discussion" with him over the SISU issue But saying that, he obvioulsy brought the swiss to the table so fair play. Lets hope he brings even more successfull ideas to the club
Foxy Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 From his SSN interview the man in charge will be Nicola Cortese (but Oldknow seemed confused as to his name - which might just be TV nerves) with Markus ina hands off role. That said the OS has Nicola as being a bank director not part of Mali or a Markus aide. Generally speaking I thought Oldknow seemed to say the right things in his interview, not necessarily his own words of course, he'll have been trotting out the official line. I would imagine all positions are transitional at this point, with Markus and his people likely to spen a while putting together a permanent organisation. Oldknow confirmed what's been said elsewhere that Markus will be a pretty hands-off owner letting his people run the club for him.
Simon_UK Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Not the best start, the staff ast St Mary's nicknamed him Andy Don't know
John B Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Oh please no ! Have had dealings in a work capacity. He never let ignorance of the facts stand in his way in having an opinion on something. Like most posters on here then should go down well
SW11_Saint Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Andy Oldknow, new CEO. Chief Operating Officer, not CEO. South Today also mentioned (hinted?) that Nicola Cortese might have a role, perhaps he will be CEO? Full interview with Fry later on http://www.bbc.co.uk\southtoday
John B Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Trant? Construction link? EDIT: He wasn't on PLC board actually? Was he? Dunno. Oh, I see, you've said Oldknow. Did he not replace Crouch?
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Not the best start, the staff ast St Mary's nicknamed him Andy Don't know He Knew Liebherr thats enough for me, right now
benjii Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Not the best start, the staff ast St Mary's nicknamed him Andy Don't know ROARS OF LAUGHTER! What a bunch of wags.
Block 5 Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 interesting jan becasue i was told of his possible involvement a few weeks ago. Nolan Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 He Knew Liebherr thats enough for me, right now Agreed, if he brokered the deal with Liebherr, then it's his involvement that has kept all the St Mary's staff in jobs and with a regular salary coming in. They might like him a bit more now.
stevegrant Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Not the best start, the staff ast St Mary's nicknamed him Andy Don't know He had that nickname 3 years ago!
docker-p Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Just been confirmed Andy Oldknow will be COO Well thats MLs first mistake. I hope there won't be too many more. Oldknow is a **** and the last thing the the much tested staff at SMS need.
Rebel Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 he was elected on to the board by Hone and Hoos - meaning that along with Jones - there were more executive directors than non-execs a real broadside in the board room civil war at St Marys if he is COO does it mean Jim Hone is coming back as CEO!?!?!? Andy is a clever guy - perhaps not the best man manager it has to be said The old Saints Trust board (including Steve Grant, Ladysaint, Exit2 and Steve Godwin) got to know him quite well!
IN MY DAY Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 He wasnt well liked by the SMS staff from what i remember. He also had a rather chequered past in employment. He 'was' working at Leicester City from what i can remember. Nigel Worthington anyone?
Weston Super Saint Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 He had that nickname 3 years ago! And I would guess most of those staff have been replaced by now...
