Lallana wants out (2009)

I had a bit of a re-read of this thread tonight; some interesting views in here and definitely worth reading, so thought I would give it a bit of a bump. Keeping aside some of the strange views that we should have got rid of Adam (and Morgan as well), it was an interesting reminder to me of the player that Adam was last season. It is remarkable the amount of progress he has made in just a few short months, which would indicate the amount of progress that he can still make if he stays on the same path. That said, I am a bit nervous about January coming around and the sharks circulating.

I have to put my hands up and say I was wrong about Lallana to an extent. He's always had the tallent on the ball, but no end product. This season he seems to have turned that around, so fair play to him.

It would also be unfair to have a dig at people for their posts on this thread, which was created under a completely different context months ago. It was created on the back of what was a very disappointing season for AL and he had apparently claimed to want out.

Makes you think though. If just having the quality players around them, a good manager and stable board has done this much for Lallana and Schneiderlin, imagine how good players like Surman, DMG, Dyer and Skacel could have been too.

I reckon it will depend on the player rather than the club. Will he (Lallana) want to stay or bench warm a premiership club?

Reckon that the chance of prem football and of course £20 -30k week ought to do the trick. Lallana will stay if he thinks we can go up this season. If not, the prospect of other L1 season and at least 2 in the CCC will be enough to see him on his way. Three years is a long time to wait if you are that young.

Think we will be ok, as for arizona, this isn't the worst post that could have been brought up, i remember a couple about his ability, some of the posts on there were pretty shocking.

Still, nice to see J Bizzle voice of footballing reason and only SWF poster to ever play the game was speaking out of his *rse.

I don't think he will leave, he seems to love the saints, fair play to him.

Another thing to consider is his sell on clause, 25% to bournemouth that will take a dent out of things.

I started reading this thread without noticing the dates and it just shows how much opinions can change, but maybe that's because his performances have changed. Whether that is down to the manager, coaching, atmosphere at the club or the attitude of the player is open to question, or maybe he is more suited to playing in a lower league.

New policy at Saints....Player signs contract and 5 years is inserted afterwards.. Only for the best players of course..AL still has 4 years left on his contract. In anycase he wants to stay and play for a world class team.

COYRs

Any idea when his contract ends?

Sorry...Wishful thinking...Hopefully at least 2/3 years by which time we could be pushing for the really big boyzz league and he will stay and play for us..:)

I thought it was ending in 2011 if it is there is a risk he will leave without us getting much for him.

But of course he may stay like Stern John;)

If a player under 24 leaves at the end of their contract the club gets compensation if not it's a free transfer.

Any idea how much?

If it is low and he wants to leave the club would have an interesting problem whether to keep him or lose a wad of money

It goes to a tribunal, depends how good the player is.

For Craine we got 400k and Leon Best was 750k. I guess for Lallana we'd get 2-3m, maybe a bit more.

Like with every other club in the world, if he wants to leave we will sell him. Doesn't matter how much money a club has if a player wants to leave, just need to look at Ronaldo and United.

Thanks for that I realise that players will leave if they want to but I was just wondering whether SFC would sell Lallana to get the best possible price.

If he is going to leave perhaps it maybe better to sell him early and use the funds received to enhance the team - a difficult call

We have the finances to keep all our best players. Trying to persuade them that their future is with us and achieving promotion is the key to keeping him. Lallana is probably the shock of the season in terms of my expectations, I doubt he'd go in January (and I hope he doesn't twice as much), but if we're not up in May, trying to persuade him to stay with us for another League One year could prove tricky.

No they don't.

Only if the player is offered less or equal terms in respect to pay.

A tribunal i believe only happens for players under 21 ?? I think...

I may be wrong, if so i apologise

It's definatly 24 but you're right about having to offer them a contract, although in Lallana's case it's fairly obvious we'd offer him a new deal.

Anyone half decent just gets offered the same deal they where on so the club can get a bit of money back.

Hey Matt (Battersea!), how are ya?! I knew someone would find this thread again and show up a few of the "regulars" on this board for the fickle fans they are!

Perhaps this is a good example of why we should ALL give players a bit more encouragement, rather than slating them at each and every slip up they may make?!

Yes, they earn good money to play - but we can all have off days at work.

Lallana had shown he can knuckle down and be an essential part of our team. Other players also show fantastic potential and yet we (some of "us") still slate them without really understanding the problem (look at poor old Waigo - getting the wrath of the Northam for being offside so much the other night!).

Thankfully, most people have recognised that Papa is not ALWAYS the culprit with regards to the offside decisions... lets hope the Northam cut him some slack at the next home game, because those songs affected him and contributed to our best player of the evening being subbed.

Must catch up sometime Matt - you attending London games?

very interesting thought. Not sure how much I'd want them back. Surman yes, but the others?

I thought McGoldrick did well the second half of the season; not quite sure where he would play in the current set-up? A front four of Waigo, Lambert, McG, Lallana looks quite tasty though.

I posted after Southend that a left-side of Harding and Skacel would be half-decent with Lallana playing behind and around Lambert (that's Skacel the occaisionally very good left winger, not Skacel the half-arsed LB).

I liked Surman but where would he play in the current team, right back would be a decent shout?

Was this thread resurrected to prove how many feckwits inhabit the forum...

I really don't care how many feckwits inhabit this forum... the reason I resurrected it is for exactly the reasons I said in my original bumping post...

"Keeping aside some of the strange views that we should have got rid of Adam (and Morgan as well), it was an interesting reminder to me of the player that Adam was last season. I think it is a very valid comparison to see what people think of him now, and a worthy discussion point. Hence why I bumped. Apologies to anyone who was confused by this.

Hopefully he will be sensible and stay until the end of the season at least. If not we should demand at least £5m for him anyway so it wouldn't be a great loss.

Helloooo - that was last year.................5m you are joking????????????????

If we were to sell and IF he ever wanted to go and IF we did consider it it has to be 10m or no thought even. Bur even then..........we are o a mission here and AL is a very important part of that plan. IF you take his goals away this year where were we be now? Money can't buy a player of his tallent and 5M wouldn't buy you his socks!

Is it just me or have you ever heard of tempting fate, think this thread should be locked for good. Now lets please forget about it and move onto another subject please!
