Chez Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I'd rather see Perry instead of Thomas. Thomas and Size are too similar in style, whilst Size attacks and Perry sweeps up. Kind of like how Claus and Killer worked but not as good. I'd also want to see James in midfield just for his crossing alone. Personally I'd like to see Perry removed from the first 11. He is incredibly slow and pretty poor in the air. His positonal play is first class, as is his effort, but if we want to move forward I think the time has come to improve in this area. Torres Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I posted earlier to no reply asking if Alan Bennett has been signed by anybody yet? He was at Brentford on loan last season & released by Reading in the summer, now he'd be good backup and on a free as well. Then just another left back & we'd be sorted. Bennett has been training with Brentford and is expected to sign shortly. I see that Sam Sodje has not been signed up by anyone since his release from Reading. I think he could be a good signing as he would bring some much needed pace to the back 4. Good shout, if he doesn't want silly money.

eurosaint Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 No idea but I guess now that the Dutch have gone he will not be contacted ! I'm sure that AP can come up with a few alternatives at CB for this level ! Brick sh#thouses should not be that hard to find ??

Brick sh#thouses should not be that hard to find ?? bit harsh! he was a good CCC CB so i think he would easily be 1 of the best defenders in this league. some1 needs to put in the ear of AP IMO cos i doubt he knows much about him atm. i hope either henderson or some of the players are having this word. Bailey Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Had Wotte stayed then I'm pretty sure Saeijs would have signed. With Pardew now at the helm, I think you'll find he's looking at other targets.

I'm a bit worried (as are many others) on relying on Lancashire, Perry and Thomas. Someone remind AP that he exists

Gingeletiss Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 I have posted before that we need to build for the Premiership. Most players are bought in on 2/3 year contracts.....therefore, any players signed, must be good enough for the CCC, and possibly higher. Otherwise we will have to change the squad (possibly) every season over the next 3 years. As we know, getting rid of players in contract can be a very hard thing to do.......so is JP Saeijs really Premiership standard??

You build a team capable of doing the job in hand. We dont need or want premiership players. We need players who are proven at CCC and League 1 level, to do a job in league 1. cCos thats where we are. There is very little loyalty in football, any player that does well for us will be bought from us. Its a fact of life. So we do well we lose players or managers. How can you build for the top flight while in League 1 when the average life expectancy of a manager in league 1 is 1.25 years. New manager comes in - we get new players. Football these days is all short term, unless you are a top 6 premier league side, then you afford the luxury of looking beyond 1 year because you are ALMOST guaranteed a future in the top flight. You get promoted you then rebuild. Sucess has a cost as does failure.

If are going to get to the prem then the manager (hopefully AP) will need to build 3 different teams over the next 4-5 years.

I have intimated, that any players we sign on longish contracts, should have the ABILITY to play in the premiership. This is only my viewpoint, I understand what you say about building separate teams....but, it is always hard to move on players. For example...the majority of players on our books, got us relegated. Many have said they are sh1te.........so should we get promoted, do we stick with them????. IMO no, so why want them in the first place. The players in the squad who have the potential to play two levels up, are the players we start building the team around. That is all I am pointing out.....there are quite a few players in the lower levels, capable of playing at a higher level.
