Transfer Budget

This.

Anything else and it would prove that we really haven't learnt our lesson, and we'll only be in the same situation again a few years down the line, IMO.

There will probably be a bit of money to spend - after all, we're not spending nearly £5m a year servicing debt anymore - but I wouldn't expect us to be going on a spending spree this season.

I agree and coupled with the philosphy of ML's father we will only be allowed to spend what we earn. I seriously doubt he will bankroll the team as some may expect and it will be a slow and considered rebuild within the club's financial means. The level of support will be key as that is the only way personal investment beyond what he has spent already will be even remotely considered or encouraged.

It's a shame Ronaldo has join to Real but there must be other bargins out there.

I can't see this man being silly with his money - that is why he is a billionaire - but also I don't think he'll be so tight it'll be like having a potless owner. Just as long as we don't buy too many donkeys. What do the posters think Woote's record is like buying players?

Surely we won't be signing on any more Pulis and Smith type players? I don't suppose we can persuade Kelvin to stay can we?

Oh joy to be talking about the team again!

I think we need to be prudent over the next few weeks. Wotte will know what he wants, we certainly do not want any journeymen thinking they can make a few bob from us as we have a rich owner.

We need good players who are committed to playing for Saints nothing more and nothing less. I would certainly go for JPS.

As long as that right manager isnt a drunken Scotsman.

Yep because we certainly don't want someone who could get us 1.54 points a game do we?

Give it up Alpine, jesus not only are you a miserable b*st*rd but you a like a boring stuck record.

If you can't look forward on today of all days there really is no hope for you.

To be honest, I haven't got a clue what players we have anymore - in contract, apart from the nippers that is, to help me make an informed decision on what we need to spend.

Maybe we won't need to spend as much as some are suggesting, as long as we have a regular set of players to choose from. I think a lot of our problems were due to the amount of different players that were coming and going, at one point last season I gave up looking at the team sheet and just cheered those players in our colours ;-)

I'm confident that the likes of Patterson, Holmes, McLaggon, Schneiderlin, Gillet, Lallana, Gobern, Lancashire will be able to cut the mustard in this league. I'd look for a few seasoned pros to add alongside them, of which we may already have, if Rasiak, John and the likes of them stay.

I think the outlay may not be too great at first, see how they are getting on in the first few months of the season and then when the window opens again, buy then; if needed that urgently.

I'd certainly suggest we get some seasoned old pros with a bit of mental guile to add a bit of steel, a centre-half maybe and a ball winner in the middle of the park would be on the top of my list.

I wouldn't be knee-jerking quite yet as there is a lot of talent still at Saints and this league is not at competitive as the Championship, in terms of players ability and I see a few of the younger names coming to prominence as the season progresses.

Of course, I wouldn't say no to five million being outlayed, for the right type of quality players, but at this moment in time I don't see it being desperate.

I'd be more inclined to look for quality in the coaching and managing departments and find the right staff who can get the best out of a very good pool of talent for this level of football.

Also, maybe the exertions and added experience some of the players gained through taking an active part in last years campaign will prove invaluable and has helped them develop and prepare better for the season ahead.

I Would make Connelly my no 1 strike target as he has been released by Sunderland and has a record of being a natural goalscorer in the lower leagues.Cureton,Lee & Scowcroft are other potential strike targets. If we can prize Andy Bishop or Ricky Lambert away they could be excellent at this level for us.It depends on John,Saga,Rasiak & BWP.Do they want to stay and will they put in the hard graft needed in league 1?Same for Euell?

I would sign Murty & Saeijs for the defence. We then would need a lb and possibly 1 more CD if Thomas leaves.

In midfield I would like an experienced player to help control the game.Someone like Savage or Oakley.I don't think Wooton or Pulis are good enough.

Maybe another winger and a goalie if Davis leaves and we should have a team capable of reaching the play offs

Disagree. I think he's come to Saints on a mission. He's 61 and he's going to have some fun. Money means nothing when you're gone.

His is a German by birth and now a Swiss National. I don't know but I would guess his definition of fun is somewhat different than yours. If the family had the motto 'money means nothing when you're gone' then dear old Hans would have left them with nothing and my guess is our new owner will not want to be the first to blow his inheritance and that of his family.

The people he has appointmented as his CEO and COO tell you that we are not going to be his proverbial trainset.

Nicola Cortese does not come cheap. He is a top top professional. You don't put someone like him in charge if you don't mean business.

Of course it'll be horses for courses (being in L1 means we can only attract L1 players) but make no mistake we'll be getting in the best at this level and once promoted we'll be getting in the best at Championship level. If and when we regain our place in the top flight it becomes a different ball game, but outside of that division we're going to be the top dogs methinks.
