itchen Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 Oh - they're old Dell supporters badges - I thought they were new ones. Doh! I had one when I was 11 (41 years ago). I lived in London at the time but my Dad was a Saints fan so I just wrote to the club and asked if they had any badges. I think I enclosed about 25p and the club sent me one of those. It did cause some ridicule among my Charlton and Millwall supporting schoolmates but I was really proud to wear it.

dubai_phil Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 Hot News just in The Dubai Saints boys have just completed their official takeover party. We started at 11am your time at Waxy O'Connors with a full Irish Breakfast, 5 Pints each and a roast dinner (10.80 each). We got slightly distracted by the whole dancing drunk chicks thingy but stayed well clear of any beaches down here. We just got home now. We progressed from Waxy's to our Spiritual home Rock Bottom and (wisely) in the spirit of our new owners stayed off the Bullfrogs and can happily report that we met a PL and former Saints Legend - none other than John Burridge, who bought beers and generally entered into the spirirt of things and entered the karaoke competition with us. (Luckily Eric kept running to the bathroom when it was his turn to sing) We had a big lol explaining to Budgie's better half's pals how massive Budgie was in English Football and of course for us and all about the Shearer debut, but when it came down to a real tough one on one physical combat, you will be pleased to know that your correspondent not only beat Budgie into 2nd place but also walloped what appeared to be the Lead singers form Bon Jovi, Metallica and Queen. Yep - The Buggles walked this karaoke league and I'm 60 quid's worth of booze vouchers in profit for the whole day out! More news and a new Budgie the Singer Avatar to follow, Eric will have an on the spot description of his "not ghey honestly" shirt (Unfortunately mine got a bit stained by Jaegerbombs when (amazingly) I managed to miss my mouth). Eric is also looking forward to using his 3 posts explaining how to be a babe magnet Swiss rock and right now so do the Buggles. All I have to do now is wake up in time to get the flight tomorrow for my interview as new manager. Shpeesh of splake

Shpeesh of splake Roll on "The New Manager" celebrations Firstly let me state that there is nothing remotely ghey about my shirt, the pussy pulling powers of it were plain to see as we enjoyed what seemed to be the whole cast from Robert Palmers Addicted to Love video cavorting in front of us :smt007 . However the high 5 from that ghey bloke and getting stalked by the ugliest woman in Rock Bottom wasn't so good though The 2 breakfasts, roast dinner and late night nibbles certainly helped in the damage limitation exercise, feel a bit shabby around the edges but considering we were drinking non stop for 12 hours, I don;t feel too bad at all. Unfortunately though I seem to have killed all the brain cells that were storing the info you gave me about fixing my computer problems . I think the next time you tell Anna that we are going out for lunch and will be getting back at 2am, she'll realise you weren't joking I have no idea how you managed to get runners up spot in The Karaoke, the crowd did 90% of the singing, and you really do need to work on your moves during the instrumental bits In this day of ego inflated mega posing footballers, it was a pleasure to see Budgie just being an ordinary man off the street drinking beer and doing karaoke and chatting to us, even if a part of it was for us to explain to his flipflop female posse that he really was a famous English PL footballer When I tried to buy him a beer he said "No thanks I've had enough ... who do you think I am ... Peter Shilton " I have to admit he did look a bit like a dodgy geezer in his White (Jimmy Melia FA Cup Final) dancing shoes, jeans, big studded belt and tight white Vest/sleeveless T shirt thingy, but he could belt out a few 60's tunes on the karaoke though . Top man. He said he loved his time at The Dell, and felt sad that we had to leave The Dell for the new ground. One of his best memories was acting as the father figure to a sh*t scarred 17 yr old Alan Shearer coming down the steps and onto the pitch for his debut against Arsenal. Well whatever he said to him certainly worked as he went on to score that famous hat trick. A great day out, better than watching the p*ss poor effort in The Ashes, and roll on The New Manager celebrations. That's twice in the last few weeks we've been out and Saints didn't lose ... The Saints Dubai Massive is on a roll meah blear blaarp splurg We went out surely not, I don't recall anything, I'm at home on a Friday morning as usual waiting fro takeover news? Oh  Computer problem - try replacing the F5 button. Budgie's "Hippy Hippy Shake" was a quality moment - was there an obscure WGS omen in that? As for how did I win? - well it's obvious - when you KNOW you can't actually sing, you just make sure you pick a real but unusual sing-a-long track and then mime:cool: Think the big intro also helped - shame the DJ seemed to mishear and described my visit to Glasto as being a performer at Glasto, where did he get the scoop on me going by helicopter from? (I wish) Great bit was that once we said a sheepish Hi to Budgie (more to see what his reaction was to the takeover news and if he still had any feelings for the club) he simply grabbed us and almost marched us across to join his throng, buubly chatty and just a bloke having a great night out and really did think the Shearer debut was one of his great career moments And oh yeah, I remember the Robert Palmer chicks - mama they seemed younger than in the video as well. It isn't about stamina or staying power, it's actually about pacing onceself - a marathon not a sprint! Also it's helped by drinking Amstel Light for much of the early part of the day (although EoA stuck religously to Kilkenny) If we make it across for the opener, trust me, two pints of Real Ale and we'll be incoherent! But you're right about pacing oneself. My good news is that the locksmith finally came and opened up my cantina (key lost in circumstances it's best I don't fully relate involving a ride home from a vineyard down a very steep road..) so now I have access to Pedigree, Adnams, Fullers.. as well as some great local wine. suewhistle Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 Whoosh. Tone has just fallen of a cliff, but I did rather telegraph that pass...:-) Incidentally, in the Swiss press release I thought "how true"... the club has a modern stadium, good training possibilities and a first-class new generation department. It is guessed/advised without own being to blame for into the misery: “There were too many groups, among themselves fought each other.” Anyway, I can now scrub out the question mark alongside Millwall in my diary - not that /I/ didn't intend to make it, you understand!! NSS Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 Evening all. Thought I'd let the dust settle for a few days before dropping in to convey my congratulations on the completion of the buyout. I am, genuinely, pleased for you that the future of Saints has been secured, and it looks as though your new Swiss owner will be very good for your club. As you can probably guess, I'd have preferred the Pinnacle Group's bid had been successful, but that was sadly not to be. I appreciate you all have your own thoughts as to how realistic their attempt to purchase the club ever was but, knowing Tony Lynam as I do, I know that he was utterly sincere in his attempts to complete the deal. Whether the full truth of his efforts (and the true identity of the backers he was representing) will ever become public knowledge remains to be seen, but I guess that is pretty much irrelevant now. Anyway, you have a pretty lively forum here so I may pop in from time to time to enjoy the banter. Until then, I shall leave you with my best wishes for a decent season. Hampshire, and the South Coast, deserves two top flight teams - I just hope that by the time Saints return to that level that Pompey are still there to renew what should, IMHO, be a fierce but friendly rivalry between the fans of neighbouring clubs/cities. Play Up Pompey! (Sorry, couldn't resist it) PS> If you read this GM (as you haven't replied to my email), let me know when would be good for that beer I owe you. Fair play for popping up NSS, nobody will ever know the full details of TL (or MJ's) real moneymen, and it should stay that way. Unfortunately I'll keep my view that the posts you and others made on here contributed to a planned and professional PR management campaign that swung public opinion. Whether completion was ever realistic or not, the fact is that TL will NEVER be able to convince us that his bid was better than the bid he nearly destroyed. Whether you understood it or not, you played a role in helping Pinnacle with their moral high ground position when Fry had to act in desperation (due to his own poor handling of one conference call to be fair) I am happy my involvement was always about - when there is nobody else around. You I think were honest in your endeavours, just think you, like MLT were a little (maybe un-inentionally) used. Enjoy your season, and just remember that Al Fahim doesn't actually have any real wealth himself to compare to our man. Maybe you really have His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed behind him. Wonder how he came to get interested in football in the South of England if it turns out to be him
