Easty Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Markus Liebherr you are a true hero to one hell of a lot of happy Southampton fans. Thank you. COYR
trousers Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 2.5 billion the echo said! Is that 'billion' on the short or long scale? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billion
RedAndWhite91 Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Bring on the trumpets!!! I got a hat like the matey on the right, guess I'll have to find that for next season then!
Saint 76er Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 He looks a trustworthy guy doesn't he? Reminds me of Richard Attenborough. Yes, that's it, he's santa claus Yes he does look trustworthy, in a kindly grandfather sort of a way. My take on his doppelganger... Richard Bucket, Hyacinthe's long suffering husband! Welcome Markus, you sound just the man for us and hope you will be on the pitch prior to Millwall game to meet your new loyal fans. Might have to change pre game music to the "William Tell Overture" for players entrance now! :D
Red and White Army Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Is that 'billion' on the short or long scale? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billion Thousand million, so the "short" scale. Billion as a million million is not used in modern day finance.
trousers Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Thousand million, so the "short" scale. Billion as a million million is not used in modern day finance. Bugger
andrew40 Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 His worth is 3 billion euros, which is worth 2.5 billion pounds. Thats just his personal worth. Tom Hicks (aka Liverpool) is worth 1.4 billion dollars. Which means Markus is roughly 3 times richer than Mr Hicks. I am loving this . . . (Hope I got the billions right on the short scale that is)
I remember Paul Rideout! Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Know I'm going to get shot down for this but don't like the Hicks comparison, we don't want to borrowing risk that Hick's introduced...then again having said that it's like he can be planning on making millions out of saints:D Bring on the trumpets and cow bells!!!
I remember Paul Rideout! Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 damn I mean NOT like he can be planning on making millions Back to school for you son to learn to spell proper
ronnie radford's boots Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Yes yes yes and yes. We still have a club and here's an idea as to how the Northam might look next year
andrew40 Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Know I'm going to get shot down for this but don't like the Hicks comparison, we don't want to borrowing risk that Hick's introduced...then again having said that it's like he can be planning on making millions out of saints:D Bring on the trumpets and cow bells!!! Just a financial worth comparison, nothing more. Would never want a Tom Hicks type investing in Saints, which is what I believe some of the others would have been, as they were all investment vehicles, or speaking for persons/vehicles of wealth.
Ed Rooney Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Yes yes yes and yes. We still have a club and here's an idea as to how the Northam might look next year That would be the second time something has happened in my pants today
cellone Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 J.I.M.P and WOOT. When it was officially anounced I did a jig around the workshop floor with the other Saint's fan whilst the other workers stood looking bemused.

Corporate Ho Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 I'm ashamed of you lot. No-one's giving a thought to poor little Micky Fiasco, sat in his room at his mum's sobbing his little heart out. Saints fans aren't what they used to be. By the way, I take it your views on clubs being owned by foreign sugar daddies and buying their way to promotion are softening somewhat from what you've said to me in the past?
SW11_Saint Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Apologies for all that folks, technical problem between the keyboard and the seat meant that the link wasn't available. All fixed now and should be fine (although probably worth right mouse clicking the link and downloading to your machine rather than trying to stream it). Mike Cheers Mike, top work!

Not at all - just not bent ones - and I think you'll find that our new owner has impeccable credentials.
pap Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 I am so happy I could almost break the forum rules. Almost. Instead, I'll go with a classic and say... Smucking Fart!!!
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 What wonderful news to come home to. Onward and upward, stability with maybe a play off place this season?

itchen Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 (edited) Echo report says Markus Liebherr was attracted to Southampton by a number of qualities which include the Club's rich sporting heritage, loyal fan base, first class stadium and training facilities and the potential for the Saints to regain their rightful place at the higher echelons of English football. At last, someone has finally seen our potential yeeee haaaa Did he not mention the catering? Edited 8 July, 2009 by itchen

Alain Perrin Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Just a thought, a few emails of thanks to his MALI group email address might get through to Markus, only a thought though. info@mali-motanag.ch For god sake, no! It's one step to deranged fans sending him emails demanding he sign Messi. The guy's "intensely private" according to one quote. Let him be.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 8 July, 2009 Posted 8 July, 2009 Superb news. However, not sure where the bear will fit into the scheme of things though?!

In particular, they should be commended for agreeing the deal in a very tight timeframe and for being the first potential purchaser to have everything in place to take the club forward."
