Because (i think) technically its the English and Welsh cricket team since the ECB is the "England and Wales Cricket Board"

Probably for the same reason we call the Olympic Team "Great Britain" rather than "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".

Simon Jones (hero of the 2005 Ashes) is Welsh, and yeh it's cos of the England and Wales Cricket Board. I think bungle summed up why. In my opinion, the Rose Bowl would have been a better choice than Cardiff ;)

But I don't follow cricket and was wondering why the England cricket team is playing its opening game in the ashes in Cardiff, Wales?

 

Because the convicts are into the same sort of amusement arcade as the Taffy's,,,,hth;)
