Redbul Posted 5 August, 2009 Posted 5 August, 2009 Something That is Gone - The Waterboys. Usual thing, a bird. Gymnopedies no 1 - Satie - reminds me of someone who suffered too much when they shouldn't have. Strangely enough; I Found Lovin' - The Fatback Band - I was listening to this when i got a text message from a mate telling me his nipper had died. Can't listen to that song again without thinking about it. I'll see your Satie and raise you Samuel Barber; Adagio for strings.....used so extensively in films like Gallipoli, Platoon, Amelie etc,

Abinoni's* Adagio in G Minor for Strings and Organ. *Often prefixed with this possessive noun, but it was in fact written by R Giazotto. Apparently.... Very good shout that one - I'd go for the intermezzo of Mascagni's Cavallaria Rusticana as the most moving classical piece..

Seany S Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Been listening to My Morning Jacket. Some very melancholy tracks across their records. In particular "Nashville To Kentucky" with the refrain "Get me out of this dead end nightmare", and the brilliant "Strangulation", which just does me in every time. I interpret it as being about hopelessness and depression, something I have experienced first hand myself recently. It is a very haunting track: Strangulation I don't wanna feel a thing. When your hands close tight around my neck, and force the air that I breathe. I don't wanna feel a thing. Yes she was a young girl. Bout the age of 23. but somehow the lord never smiled down upon her, so she flew out on a breeze. Said: "I don't wanna feel a thing, I don't want to feel a thing." Sure he was a good kid. But his phone it'd never ring. He got tired of walkin a tightrope, needin too much to drink. So he got on a knee. "I don't want to feel a thing" But I know there's someone that loves up above and wants to fix you a dream. He wants to sit down and think. He wants to pour you a drink. And you wont feel a thing. You wont feel a thing.
Saintandy666 Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Johnny Cash's version of hurt is a pretty sad song. Espcially when you think that he effectively recorded that song and then died.
Ludwig Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 Radiohead - Last Flowers I find the whole of Neutral Milk Hotel's 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea' rather sad, really, though it's probably my favourite album ever.
Rory Posted 18 August, 2009 Posted 18 August, 2009 The Smiths -- I Know It's Over The National -- About Today Joy Division -- Atmosphere Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros -- Redemption Song (it's also heart-wrenching when Joe says "that's a take" at the end of Silver and Gold, the last song on Streetcore)
