You KNOW it's true, must be a bitter pil for you to swallow..going to say thankyou to Leon ?

Of course your'e not, you will twist the story and ignore the fact that Leon kept the club alive, you will no doubt throw in the odd insult towards Lawrie, Mike osman ( Apologized for insinuating they are frauds yet? ) and Mary corbett too, so predictable.

Life must be **** for you spending everyday on here squabbling like a bitter old woman.

Mods, please deal with this clown.

I would have thought the mods should paying attention to mummys boys like scally who are handing out lame threats on here just because some-one is voicing an opinion.

Blimey what have I started, Its time to change the heading as my serious thoughts have turned to this.

I thought it was quite an interesting point you were making but as I am not ITK have no idea who would be running the club but was looking forward to hear possible suggestions

blimey there is a lot of hot air being blown on this thread! Who is this Lowe, Wilde and Crouch we speak of? Is it not Mr Fry that is currently in charge of our future? Have we not aggreed several times that over the past 5 years or so things have gone from bad to worse and there are no real good guys in all of it? We can all choose to believe who is more at blame but FFS does it really matter any more? Hopefully we have seen the back of those issues yet here we can do nothing other than take every thread into another petty squable about the priicks who used to run the club.

And a member of my family says hello to the member of thegaffer's family but i dont even know what member of my family said it so take your pick on your member of your family that you say hello too. All this bringing in family members and stand up microphones and things is getting very confusing. so if your are all going to get personal do it in PM cause simple minded folke like me cant cope on a sunday morning with a hang over from hell

Thank you please. :D

What are you going on about lame threats, I don't know the guy and don't know where he lives so how am I handing out lame threats? Another Lowe luvie who just joins the thread to stick up for one of his own.

Since when do we believe newspaper stories. I have no proof? Has Fry ever acknowledged the fact and if Crouch did contribute under what restrictions if any was the money contributed? We can't treat newspaper stories as gospel when it suits us and dismiss them when it doesn't and that is why I am very hopeful about the Swiss but wouldn't wager a single penny on the outcome because I simply don't have any evidence or proof other than newspaper articles. That said if that evidence could be produced officially by the club and the the terms under which any donation was made then those who have generously supported the club deserve the thanks of all fans and staff. Hopefully, the accounts will be published post takeover and revenue streams and payments highlighted so that everyone who help support the club can be thanked eventually.

Do you? Just a bit banter and if you are prepared to stand up (no pun intended) and give it then you have to expect a little gentle ribbing in return, don't you? Every audience has it's hecklers.

NC come on, there is no need to have a go a MO. He is not the problem. Yes I know he has perhaps taken a stance that does not suit all but he does not need the attacks. You can argue perfectly well without resorting to that.

The Gaffer is also entitled to give his view and you know if you make an attack on his brother he is always going to bite back, not fair rules there. Debate not personal attack on his family please.

Errrr I thought this thread was about which potential chairman we should be looking for. Instead it has just turned in to a war of words. Grow up for ****s sake and get ba k on to the topic.

My personal opinion of should who should be chairman is I see l now reason why Matt couldn't do it as just look at Niall Quinn. Not doing too bad a job. People still talk as if we are a Premier league club so we expect big profile names. I say give Matt a chance if that is what the Swiss or whoever eventually takes charge. Come on peeps stop the silly bickering and get back on topic.

Hope you have a good weekend.

"Luvvie" *yawn*. Is Lowe at the club anymore ? I am just a fan that hopes the Swiss takeover goes ahead and none of the old rabble (McMenemy,Wilde,Crouch and Lowe) are allowed anywhere near the new set up.

Oh yeah and Mike Osman what an embarrasment that guy is. I wonder if he has given MLT any business advice recently ?

When MLT was first offerd the figurehead role I expect he jumped at it impulsively without too much thought, who wouldn't? However, since then he has climbed a learning curve that's been almost vertical and has had the scales well and truly ripped from his eyes.

Whether he would now accept a similar offer remains to be seen, but I would suggest that he is now in a much more informed position to make that decision. The 'baptism of fire' that he has endured may have scared him off for good, or, alternatively, made him even more eager to take on that type of role, having now learnt the raw reality of 'ruthless business' and what happens when you become a pawn (allegedly) in someone elses empire building.

I would welcome him in a prominent club role, but not as Chairman. Maybe something akin to what Kenny Dalglish is now doing at Liverpool.

I can't see him wanting to be the chairman which means we need some football decision makers on board.

Any idea how this is going to work, What are your comments?

yep, if Wotte is to stay perhaps RL is picking the teams, and as Killer is such a pussy he will bend over for him as well.To be fair RL I exoect is somewhere in the background but I doubt he will be at the forefront

I suspect he'll spend money on appointing people who will make this work. Afterall he has it.

CEO, well known chairman with footballing links would be a start.

Appoint MLT and Lawrie Mac as our media spokesmen. MLT in particular should be involved in some role for his integrity alone.

Appoint the best manager we can afford and stick with him.

That would be my starting point...

Do you not realise how devisive LM is to the fan base as well?

MLT still can do no wrong to hte majority of the fanbase IMO but LM just irks a lot of fans like RL does to others. I odnt believe we will need hiom if MLT is the figurehead.

I suspect out of their 32,600 strong workforce they have one or two candidates who could sort us out in their lunch hour.

Are you seriously suggesting that Saints can continue to be MD'd in a few hours??

No, he really isn't.

Robbie, no offence intended but Lawrie Mac should have no role in the next phase of our redevelopment. I find him very disruptive and an undermining influence when he doesn't get his way and he should have no direct role in the day to day running of the club or when dealing with the media.

I respect what he has achieved in the past but he has been feeding off that for over 30 years now and getting away with thing's that others would have been severely criticized for.

I really do think that it's time to move on and start afresh, move out the dead wood that associates itself with the club and bring in new faces and fresh ideas.

MLT I would have no issues with at all, I don't think he has any hidden agenda and is man enough to accept decisions that might not go his way with good grace and without sulking. I believe he has a positive mental attitude and would be great to have working to take the club forward.

IYHO. I think you will find that there are many out there who do not turst his motives in the past. Anyway it is my opinion and whilst I adore my memories he helped give me in the 80's I have not enjoyed some of his other things. Daren Wheeler did put up a compelling arguement in his favour when he said he stayed with us for 12 years and that was something i did not appeciate. It still irks me that he was part of the England set up that picked Geoff Thomas over MLT when he was near his best add that to his sale of the shares at the soonest opportunity did not do him any favours.Anyway MLT will be eniugh for me as a figurehead.

I respect your opinion nickh, I just think the "LM is evil" (exagerated, I know!) view is one that is only propogated on boards such as this.

I reckon if you conducted a poll of people at SMS he would still be hugely popular, or at least would not be subject to much criticism.

I'm not saying that he does or doesn't deserve the criticism, simply that I don't think he is a divisive figure amongst the fan-base as a whole.

You're probably right there Barney and you Nickh. I did note that Lawrie spoke well on Sky when the Pinnacle group bid was withdrawn though. My thoughts were driven by the fact he will always be engaged by the media for his previous reputation and the fact he's Saints through and through. Better the devil you know I suppose... but yes I think you're right in retrospect.

Totally agree with all of this, most notably the need to ensure LM is not involved at the club in any new regime.

I respect what he achieved in 76, however as mentioned he is a divisive figure and his views on football are far too old school for the modern game and he wont be told otherwise.....I have seen this first hand.

LM's role in helping Askham I do not condone and I think he has stirred at the club at times when it really didn't help. To call him divisive in the fanbase, let alone on the scale of Lowe or Wilde is well wide of the mark though. It is fair comment to point out that away from SFC - where his achievements will stand for generations - he did not fare so well. I personally wouldn't have him involved in the new set-up. One thing I will say Nick is that I wish some of the other posters (I know you don't do this) would stop quoting 19C/Flashman/Sundance on their posts - I have the attention-seeking nutcase on ignore for very good reason.

I really struggle to believe that McMenemy is as divisive as you try to make out (certainly not on a par with others that have graced us with their presence in recent years).

I think he shouldn't have any "hands on" roll in taking the Club forward, bar being wheeled out as an ambassador, but IMHO I think the vast majority of our fanbase still hold him in high regard. Of course he's always dining out on the past, but it was the best period in this Club's history!!!!!

McMenemy may have a few stalkers on here, but I don't think he is the divisive figure you are trying to make out.

I think LM is a great man. But thats just my opinion.

Is anyone here able to bullet point actual facts of what LM has done to this club to harm it?

I mean real facts not comments like oh he helped askham back in 1932.. roughly... ish.

I'd also love to see MLT on board in ANY capacity.

I'd also like to see David Armstrong let back into the stadium...

All these great guys that actually really care about Saints - Just like you do. If they sometimes appear divisive isnt that because they care and sometimes emotions run high - Just like they do on here.

19C appears divisive as does GM but they are insignificant posters on an internet message board. LM feels just as strongly as they do but all of his opinions reach a wider audience. Is the same for anyone that is high profile I am just amazed that people will diss a guy that has done so much for this club over a long time frame. I would give anything for Saints to return to the glory days of the teams that LM put out.

Finishing 2nd in Division1 with only Liverpool ahead of us..... who the hell on here would ever NOT want that back????? I think personally that was a greater achievment than winning the FA Cup.

I would be a popular move from the Swiss (assuming its gthem who are the front runners) to appoint MLT as Chairman/Front Man to the new regime.

However, would there have been a possibility that Matt was approached previously but he chose Pinnicle over the Swiss leaving a slight bitter taste in the Smiss mouths.

I would expect someone from their company being Chairman, but we will see

I gotta say, reading through this entire thread, that Nineteen Canteen made a perfectly reasonable opening post, without insulting anyone and without so much as mentioning Lowe, only to get attacked and insulted immediately by a bunch of people who apparently can't forgive him for whatever things he may have posted in the past. No surprise that he responded with counter insults.

To restate his point then, I agree that the club needs a totally new start: no-one from the past 6 or more years should be in any position of power/authority. If Crouch really helped the club by paying wages -- which I'm not convinced of, I fancy the opportune transfers of Dyer, McG, and Surman have provided the funds, along with what Pinnacle paid for its exclusivity -- then he deserves a big thank you, but not a seat on the board. MLT and Big Mac should be honored guests at the club wehenever they want to come, and offered the chance to act in an ambassadorial capacity if they wish, but not put in charge.

There are plenty of good football people out there who can run the club, and whoever buys it should find his own business people to keep the football end in line with good business sense. Doesn't seem much point speculating who that might be, I just hope it will indeed be people without any connections to all the recent debacles that have made the club look so pathetic!

This is what I was thinking, perhaps a job with Dave Armstrong in the Ambassodors role on the corporate entertainment, of which when I have been in there they have seemed to do very well, the punters like to meet and shake the hand the man that was responsible for getting us to the cup final and winning it and the subsequent glory years.
