redkeith Posted 4 July, 2009 Share Posted 4 July, 2009 Lallana isn't playing at Eastleigh today. Does that mean that someone has upped their bid? Also, I see that there has been a siighting of the lesser spotted Pullis. Any Liverpool scouts watching him, in case Mascherano leaves?
buctootim Posted 4 July, 2009 Share Posted 4 July, 2009 Reading 4-4-2 magazine - Patrick Kluivert waiting for offers from England! Doing his coaching badges at the moment but does not want to retire just yet. Can you imagine the press if Kluivert ended up playing at Totton! Chez Posted 5 July, 2009 Share Posted 5 July, 2009 I think you guys are splitting hairs on this one. His price willall depend on what people are willing to pay for him. People talk about potential, but let's look at a few other players who had 'potential' in the past: David Prutton - England U21 captain, we signed him for £2.5m James Beattie - Played several times, and scored, for England U21s, cost £1m. Bradley Wright Phillips - Made several Prem appearances for Man City, joined us for £750k Andrew Surman - Has contricuted much more to Saints over the last couple of years than AL. £1.2m with a few add ons. Nathan Dyer - We sold him for £400k. Michael Carrick - England U21 regular, Spuds got him for £2.75m. Tom Huddlestone - England U21 regular, signed for Spuds for £3m. To command a £5m fee you really have to be something special. Tallented though Lallana is, he just isn't that special. Jenas Jenas went for 5m after one season at Forrest, Aaron Ramsey 5m after 16 games at Cardiff, Gareth Bale 10m after one season. These players were all tied to long term contracts and that ups the price. I think Lallana has that little extra something that makes him worth millions not hundreds of thousands
Arizona Posted 5 July, 2009 Share Posted 5 July, 2009 But those players blatently were top half of the Prem quality. Quite how Jenas ever ended up in the England senior squad I don't know, but he is a decent player. All those players shone in their brief spells in CCC and it was obvious they would go on to be Prem quality. You can add to that Bale, Ramsey, Theo etc. were 16/17 years old when they were sold. Whilst Lallana is still young at 21, he isn't all that young. If a player was ever going to be Prem class, you'd hope to be seeing glimpses of that by now. For all the hype surrounding Lallana, he wasn't all that convincing as a CCC player. Last season we really didn't have any other decent options on the right, but the season before, a succession of managers prefered the likes of Viafara, Dyer, Licka and even Hammill. Chez Posted 5 July, 2009 Share Posted 5 July, 2009 before his injury he was outstanding. He took a bloody long time to find his form again after it but in the final few games he got somewhere near his best and you could see he was on a different level to the rest of the side. The first touch is right up there with the best. His finishing needs to improve but its his link play that makes him attractive to teams higher up than us. In terms of his development he has only just been given the opportunity to show what he can do. I don't put that down to him not being good enough and I don't think that reduces his value much either. We all know he is not going to be here long unless we somehow turn ourselves into a promotion winnng side, so you'd better enjoy him while he's here because after him we are down to the dross. I just don't get what it is about Lallana which makes him THAT special. A tallented player I don't deny, and he did look good at the start of the season, but I haven't seen anything that puts him in that Theo/Bale/Ramsey wonderkid section. Trouble is, around the time you say he was outstanding, many people were saying the same about players like Holmes, Morgan, Gillett, DMG and Surman. After a couple of months however people started to wake up and smell the coffee. There was some pretty stuff being in-between the slapstick defending, but when it came to results, they just weren't delivering. I'd have to disagree with your second statement too. Redknapp, Burley, Dodd, Gorman and Pearson all though he wasn't ready for regular first team football. But I'll drink to the last statement. funkymojo44 Posted 6 July, 2009 Share Posted 6 July, 2009 £2m + future instalments would be alright.
