There may be a name attached, Thorpie, but he says he's "only acting as a negotiator and (is) not one of the investors".

Echoes give me the willies, so Hop Suisse it is!

And me! Naming a name just makes it seem real! Might be worth some digging on JB anyway to see his failed attempts in past to see what individuals he is linked with!

Some even more disturbing quotes from Batchelor out there from what i have read on google. This is all purely just an orchestrated media leak anyway to probably get others attention for completion. Obviously the Daily Echo will be gullible enough and desperate to print anything. Any serious party will not seek media attention.

DISGRACED former York City chairman John Batchelor will not fall foul of the Football League's Fit and Proper Persons Test in his bid to takeover League Two strugglers Mansfield Town.

That was the admission of respected Football League spokesman John Nagle this week as Batchelor signalled his ambitions to become the Stags' new owner.

Furthermore, Nagle was unable to provide the name of a person who has yet to be disqualified as a football club director since the test was introduced as part of the league's regulations in 2004, simply adding: "It's always difficult to say if anybody has fallen foul of the test. All we can say is since it came in people may be aware of the rules and have decided not to get involved with a club."

Former motor sport team owner Batchelor, however, has clearly not been dissuaded from pursuing a return to the football world and Nagle added: "John probably wouldn't fail the test and anything that happened while he was at York was before it came into force."

Such comments appear to make a mockery of the test's existence and, after closer inspection, there appears nothing to prevent Batchelor becoming a director again at any Football League club.

In its current form, after a 2005 update, sex offenders, people given a custodial sentence of 12 months or more and individuals who have been disqualified by a professional body have joined bankrupts and directors who have run two companies into insolvency on the test's blacklist.

There is no protection against individuals such as Batchelor, whose defence of "I did nothing wrong," when asked by the Mansfield Chad newspaper of his York involvement this week, he admitted to walking away with a £120,000 profit from a club he had took into administration.

Should history repeat itself, then the former toilet roll and paper towel salesman may just achieve the seemingly impossible and fail football's version of the Media Studies A'-level but surely Mansfield would be wackier than the man himself to give the Austin Powers impersonator a second chance.

Read the really good book The Beautiful Game if you want to find out more about him and other sharks.

But then how do we know the Swiss are any different in reality?

Big piece on Gillico in the Echo with quotes from Batchelor. Batchelor refused to say if any former Saints directors were involved though. One or two potential managers identified.

Group consists of a guy in property, a guy in engineering, a guy in sport and a guy in development. All 4 will be on the board of directors if successful.

Batchelor will only be involved in commercial matters.

Richard Williams non executive chairman.

Why would 4 "wealthy British businessmen" ask a clown like that to negotiate for them ? From what I can see he has quite a track record of failing to buy football clubs.

Oh dear, why do we have to be targets for scheisters and clubs raiding our best players for peanuts?

Ted Bates reincarnation, where are you?

That's what happens when a football club goes into administration. We're no different to any other club who's been in this situation.

this guy is a clown looking to make a quick buck (well lots of bucks)!!! We could go under and he would walk away with a tidy profit not giving a monkeys!!! Even if he is only a negotiator, it doesn't say much for the other 4 if they are trusting him!!!!

So John B&Q is going to take us over and call us Melchester Rovers. When will we sign Roy of the Rovers, HCDAJFU. He might rename St Marys the Curly Wurly stadium. That would be cool, might be better than the Toblerone Arena. I think this chap is just what we need, bring it on.

It gets worse!! I can just see him walking out of St marys now with a bulging briefcase!! he would never get out of Southampton!

Looks like Den Perry out of Pheonix Nights - i.e. very dodgy! :smt118

Copy and paste the address from your browser and then preceed it with

an OpenSquareBracket the word URL and a CloseSquareBracket

then follow the address with the same except URL has a / before it

It is difficult to show as it will not appear as I write.

As an example try the following BUT change Brackets () to Square Brackets []

(url) http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4475023.Businessmen_bid___12_5m_to_buy_Saints/ (/url)

the above should show as a link but will show the (url) - if you use square brackets only the link will show

Hope that helps, I'm only a registered user so you full members may have an easier way, anyway you are welcome to one of my 3 posts for the day. Hope I don't become ITK !

Jesus! He sounds just as bad as Lowe (and I don't utter those words lightly). An arrogant idiot trying to make a mockery of League Rules, serving his own financial interests to the detriment of the club, rubbing up the wrong people and generally not having a clue about the football business. Sound familiar? Batchelor is renown as a complete joke and waster so I sincerely hope he is nothing to do with one of the bids. As Thorpie so rightly intonated, how do we attract these weirdos?! Well, easy pickings for idiots seems the case.

You've got to laugh (with despair) when you read such articles but someone wisely suggested (too lazy to check who) that if numpties on an internet forum can realise all this, you can bet your bottom dollar intelligent businessman like Fry, esq. will also know this. As also suggested, this information has been drip fed to the ever willing Echo and used as a blatant media tool (tool seems appropriate when we're talking about names like Batchelor!)

I wouldn't panic nor take these people seriously, if it is in fact them biddding! They won't get taken seriously (if able to pass the FL fit and proper persons ruling) by both Fry or the Football League.
