Bourno Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8133381.stm er..no thanks. I felt that he was at the end of his playing days when he left us.
RedFear Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 lol ive read it with my own eyes on the bbc site, but this must be a joke!
explorer saint Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 Who is making this up !! dreadful decision Murty v good, Stern back v good but now someone is taking the you know what, JT couldn't get a contract with B'mth so why could he be good for us. Nothing personal good player in his time but thats now gone
St.Patrik Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 I know that Tessem had a trial with Swedish team Örgryte. Anders Svensson told their boss that Tessem was a good player and free offcourse. Not heard anything more about it but - I guess then that Anders was wrong this time.... Anyone got Andreas Jakobssons number by the way : /
Deano6 Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 Sure the OS clears this up... Meanwhile, ex-Saint Jo Tessem's request to train with his former Club next week has also been accepted and the 2003 FA Cup finalist will join the squad at Staplewood from Monday as he bids to maintain his own fitness ahead of a possible move back to Sweden. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1712801,00.html
St Chalet Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 It is only a trial, if Wotte thinks he is as good as Ryan Smith, so be it.
John B Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 (edited) From OS Jo Tessem is only training to maintain his own fitness ahead of a possible move back to Sweden. Did not believe he was on trial Edited 3 July, 2009 by John B
randyapollo Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 just heard we`re also handing a weeks trail to a p.shilton, rumour has it his better days are behind him...................JO TESSEM???!!!! for gods sake lol lol
Bourno Posted 3 July, 2009 Author Posted 3 July, 2009 Sure the OS clears this up... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1712801,00.html Phew...panic over. Sloppy BBC.
Arizona Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 Only a year older than Perry. I'm sure JT is only training with us. Based on his time at Bournemouth, I'm fairly sure it's not a trial.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 Why not JT. We could do with some older heads in the side.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 I'd rather have a committed Jo Tessem on board than some of the over-rated sh1te that we had last season. Let's hope you're back for good Jo..
Matthew Le God Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 Someone need to change the thread title as it is still confusing people. Tessem is not on trial, he has just requested time to build up fitness for a move to Sweden.
Crab Lungs Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 I know that Tessem had a trial with Swedish team Örgryte. Anders Svensson told their boss that Tessem was a good player and free offcourse. Not heard anything more about it but - I guess then that Anders was wrong this time.... Anyone got Andreas Jakobssons number by the way : / Andreas Jakobsson was one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. People say Calum Davenport was culpable for shipping many of our goals but I hold AJ far more accountable. He was truly a disaster. And don't get me on the biggest bottler ever, Mikael 'dangle your foot' Nilsson. I often remind my fellow Swedish friends of my complete contempt for the both of them on a regular basis.
alpine_saint Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 As far as I am concerned, Jo Tessem never let us down, and we've been crying out for players who care about the Club. If he impresses Wotte with his attitude and fitness, I for one will welcome him back with open arms.
VectisSaint Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 Just to be pedantic, the OS says Jo is trying to maintain his fitness "ahead of a possible move back to Sweden". He has never played in Sweden as far as I know. He comes from Norway, not Sweden, and played in Norway for Lyn (Oslo) and Molde. So how can he be going back to Sweden (unless he went there on holiday or something)? These bloody official sites are so shoddy Maybe could be our next manager, after his success with Totton & Eling

If he impresses Wotte with his attitude and fitness, I for one will welcome him back with open arms. as a fellow Norwegian,I can assure you Tessem is far from good enough for any league 1 side. he can`t even find a crappy Norwegian club to play for nowadays.

I dont particularly care about that. Maybe he cares about THIS club and can find something extra.

I agree Jakobsson was crap but Davenport was definately worse in my opinion. People bang on about Sturrock, Hoddle, Lowe, Wigley, Redknapp etc... The simple truth IMO is that if we had signed one decent Prem quality centre back to replace Svensson we would never have been relegated. Those two were both ****e. I'm always amazed when watching Match of the Day that Davenport has somehow forged a journeyman career in the Premiership. Pure ****e.
benjii Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 Bring back Marian Pahars! I would blooming love that (unless he's gash now).
buctootim Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 Bring back Marian Pahars! I would blooming love that (unless he's gash now). Didnt he sign for a small time Cypriot club for a bit of money and a wedge of sick notes?
Saint Fen Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 I agree Jakobsson was crap but Davenport was definately worse in my opinion. Yeah the Villa game at home thought Jakobsson was alright only to get injured when 2-0 up and replaced by Davenport who was truely shocking, we lost 3-2. How has Davenport had so many premiership sides, he is truely awful!

Loyal Saint Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 They were all crap, but nobody cost us more goals than Danny Higginbottham that season. That's an absolute fact. Correct
Arizona Posted 3 July, 2009 Posted 3 July, 2009 They were all crap, but nobody cost us more goals than Danny Higginbottham that season. That's an absolute fact. Are you sure? I haven't forgotten about Bernard and Kenton, though lord knows it's not through lack of trying. The first game I ever went to was the Villa game that season. Bernard was so badly out of possition I spent 10 minutes wondering where our third central midfielder had come from.

The first game I ever went to was the Villa game that season. Bernard was so badly out of possition I spent 10 minutes wondering where our third central midfielder had come from. Watch back the goals from the first half of the 04/05 season and you'll clearly see that Higgy was responsible for plenty of goals we conceded. Most memorable mistakes were at home to Bolton where he gave away a penalty after needlessly hacking down a player who was running AWAY from goal. He cost us another goal in that Bolton game and in the 2-2 Highbury game when he didn't push up with the rest of the defence and played the opposition onside. Pretty basic stuff. And who can forget the own goal in Redknapp's first game against Boro. That's just of the top of my head, there were more, believe me. Kenton was a weird one. I remember a few times he had some absolute monster games and looked like a top Premiership defender, but more often that not he looked pretty bad.
Bourno Posted 4 July, 2009 Author Posted 4 July, 2009 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4475027.Tessem_on_trial_with_Saints/ Looks like the echo read the first post in this thread and got no further. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Shocking, bad Echo, even though Mark Wotte says "Jo Tessem is training with us. He tried to get in a year ago but then we had a lot of young and promising players and the older ones so didn't allow it" "He was training for 4 weeks in Elfsborg who offered him a contract, but he's living here so we thought we'd give him a chance". Well done Echo on copying it from the forum
sussexsaint Posted 4 July, 2009 Posted 4 July, 2009 I will always remember that last minute header at Highbury -

david in sweden Posted 4 July, 2009 Posted 4 July, 2009 (edited) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8133381.stm er..no thanks. I felt that he was at the end of his playing days when he left us. That's most people reaction I'm sure, but ..think again. 1) It depends how fit he's kept himself and if he's still got any pace. 2) Whilst most Prem.players are nearing the end after 31, there are many glaring exceptions and as you drop down the leagues the age limit goes up. 3) Leaving goalkeepers out of the equation (they get better with age) people like Strachan, Sheringham and Dennis Wise could all turn in reasonable performances when they had passed 40. 4) Saints have a history (not only for dumping young players before they develop) but ditching the older ones when they still had much to offer. Lawrie Mac ditched Paine at 35, Channon at 34, and both went on to help others club succeed and played on till they were 38/39. Jimmy Case who came to Saints aged 30 ....was still on the books at 37 was sacked by Ian Branfoot for his candid "dressing room comments" - but like the others mentioned was still able to turn our for Brighton at 40. If you are a young fan and you think 30 " sounds old" , I can tell you that as an "old " fan.. some of the best players I've watched in a Saints shirts were still turning in great performances week after week when they were well past that age. So let's give Murty, Thompson and Tessem (if need be) a chance. A trial costs nothing. We're not signing then for a three year contract, but if we are to have one (or two) seasons in League 1 their experience can be worth gold in getting out of this division. Smirking_Saint Posted 4 July, 2009 Posted 4 July, 2009 Davenport is the worst player I have ever seen in the red-and-white. Have to agree really
hackedoff Posted 4 July, 2009 Posted 4 July, 2009 We have had a lot of players who were far worse than Tessem over recent years. Dont know why people single him out.
John B Posted 4 July, 2009 Posted 4 July, 2009 We have had a lot of players who were far worse than Tessem over recent years. Dont know why people single him out. Because he is older now than when he played for us probably. I would not have Paine playing for us now either although he was the best allround Saints player I ever saw
hackedoff Posted 4 July, 2009 Posted 4 July, 2009 Because he is older now than when he played for us probably. I would not have Paine playing for us now either although he was the best allround Saints player I ever saw I know that ,that is why I used the past tense throughout the post. When he did play for us IMO he was better than quite a few others that have played since.

Atticus Finch of Maycomb Posted 5 July, 2009 Posted 5 July, 2009 I would like to see him play for us in League 1 this season. Because, if I do, it will mean that we are still in business.
Bad Wolf Posted 5 July, 2009 Posted 5 July, 2009 I would like to see him play for us in League 1 this season. Because, if I do, it will mean that we are still in business. Haha never thought of it like that. Good point (Y)
