Give it to Ron Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Well some progress then in getting a team together Not when you look at his scoring record!
niceandfriendly Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 A bit like Wottes contract, it leaves me thinking "how?" We can't be in too much trouble if we're giving out contracts and taking on trialists.
shurlock Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 (edited) in the hole, a DMG replacement or possibly an indicator that many other strikers are on their way out? the OS didnt say he currently plays for a semi-pro team K.S.V. Roeselare. Edited 2 July, 2009 by shurlock
Andy_Porter Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 in the hole, a DMG replacement or possibly an indicator that many other strikers are on their way out? Can't see Rasiak and Saga playing for us next season even if we get an investor.
John B Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Not when you look at his scoring record! Oh well lets see what happens it is only League 1 dont forget
randyapollo Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 if he can kick a ball straight and understand the offside rule it`ll be a marked improvement on bradley wrong philips lol
saintmonkey1979 Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Not when you look at his scoring record! True. 11 goals in 62 appearances. At 28 years old I think he maybe at his peak. Can't see how he will improve on what we have in Patterson or McLaggon, (omitting Rasiak and Saga as I don't think they we be here for long) and would probably be cover. But at the moment we can't afford to be picky.
Andy_Porter Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 I really don't understand going for foreign players who have no English league experience. I know we're in no position to be fussy but i'm sure there are loads of conference, L2 and L1 players available for free at the moment who would be a lot more usefull that him.
Give it to Ron Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Oh well lets see what happens it is only League 1 dont forget Really....well have a look at the clubs he has played for.....better or worse than League One? Hardly prolific is he even in those **** leagues....I love the OS spin...he played for RSC Anderlecht yep 2000-2001 FFS.
krissyboy31 Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Makes me laugh!! We seem to have written him off before he's arrived. Now that's a surprise.........not!!!
Andy_Porter Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Makes me laugh!! We seem to have written him off before he's arrived. Now that's a surprise.........not!!! Are you really suprised we're being sceptical about a new signing? We made like 15 signings last season and at least 10 where unnecessary and ****e.
dockland Dave Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Well what do we expect? Michael Owen? Would anyone with any ability or any other choice of club want to join us? Mr Thompson we may be able offer you a contract next week if we are still in business. Sad state of affairs, but we have to be realistic
Give it to Ron Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Makes me laugh!! We seem to have written him off before he's arrived. Now that's a surprise.........not!!! Well come on look at his record.....last season we had 7 loanees come in that used up valuable wages that got nowhere near the first team. Do we have time to **** about with trialists that have amassed 9 goals in 4 years? Sorry thought this was a football forum where we could discuss this sort of thing. The club are wonderful, all players coming in are great.....happy now?
krissyboy31 Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Are you really suprised we're being sceptical about a new signing? We made like 15 signings last season and at least 10 where unnecessary and ****e. Yes but he's not a new signing, he's a trialist. If he's sh!t, I would hope he would be shipped back on the next Flybe flight, however that is the market we're in, trialists and frees and we might be able to unearth a gem or two along the way (in League 1 terms, anyway).
saintsmike25 Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 If he's strong and quick sign him up. We need all the help we can get this season.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Got a feeling this guy will come in and score us 15 goals this season. If he's not injured. If he can run. If he can pass. If he can speak English. If....he costs no money and eats very little.
shurlock Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 More than happy to give him a go and want him to succeed, especially when others in our team have been given plenty of chances and done very little. Still you rarely get something for nothing. Just as a comparison, Leicester this time last season had signed Bulgarian internation/Champions League regular Aleksandar Tunchev from CSKA Sofia. I'm not saying that we can or should follow in their footsteps but point out that some European leagues standards drop very quckly outside the top flight.
matthieu Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 does anyone know if members of the public are allowed to watch training sessions?
Arizona Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Are you really suprised we're being sceptical about a new signing? We made like 15 signings last season and at least 10 where unnecessary and ****e. Only 10? When I try and count decent players we signed last season, I get JPS, Perry then I'm stuck. Wotton - Sh*te Schneiderlin - Sh*te Robertson - Sh*te Pekhart - Sh*te Smith - Sh*te Molyneux - Sh*te Holmes - Injured Svensson - Injured
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Wow! Wotte gets a 28 year old... who's from Belguim and never played in league 1. But, lets hope he's better than the other high calibre players he's personally attracted to Saints.
saintmonkey1979 Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Has Wotte made a signing for us then? I thought all the transfers/loans were made under JP?
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Has Wotte made a signing for us then? I thought all the transfers/loans were made under JP? You're probably right. I doubt he was trusted to.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Only 10? When I try and count decent players we signed last season, I get JPS, Perry then I'm stuck. Wotton - Sh*te Schneiderlin - Sh*te Robertson - Sh*te Pekhart - Sh*te Smith - Sh*te Molyneux - Sh*te Holmes - Injured Svensson - Injured Schneiderlin and Holmes are not sh*te
Arizona Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 does anyone know if members of the public are allowed to watch training sessions? Last season Tuesday's were public viewing, provided there wasn't a match that evening. When I went there were only about 20 players training, but luckily they were the senior players, some of whom seemed genuinely pleased to see us.
S-Clarke Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Wow! Wotte gets a 28 year old... who's from Belguim and never played in league 1. But, lets hope he's better than the other high calibre players he's personally attracted to Saints. Now jan-paul saeijs was a huge failure wasn't he...
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Now jan-paul saeijs was a huge failure wasn't he... Disappointing, rather than a failure. But, I put that down to lack of managerial motivation rather than talent. Imagine how good he could be with a decent boss.
Arizona Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Schneiderlin and Holmes are not sh*te Okay then Schneiderlin - Offers the team nothing defensively or offensively, but is actually brilliant. Holmes - Made a couple of decent crosses in the first month of the season before setting up shop in the physio room.
shurlock Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 JP was obsessed with youth, so alot of the earlier, bag of s**te signings like Peckart were his. I think Wotte is slightly shrewder and has a bit more respect for experience. JPS was definitely his, though it appears he would have gone to the stake for Ryan Smith. He also tried to get Deeneboom, Blackstock and Scowcroft on loan which looked OK on paper.
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Okay then Schneiderlin - Offers the team nothing defensively or offensively, but is actually brilliant. Holmes - Made a couple of decent crosses in the first month of the season before setting up shop in the physio room. See I think both have potential. But, when you have lions led by an orange goat never will it be fulfilled.
shurlock Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Disappointing, rather than a failure. But, I put that down to lack of managerial motivation rather than talent. Imagine how good he could be with a decent boss. Disappointing - apart from his genorosity in giving away pens, he was easily one of our better players in the last 3-4 months.
DrunkenSaint Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Schneiderlin and Holmes are not sh*te i agree let schneiderlin settle ffs, he's doing bloody well for the french atm.
Arizona Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 See I think both have potential. But, when you have lions led by an orange goat never will it be fulfilled. Agreed. Both have the potential not to be sh*te one day.
Andy_Porter Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Only 10? When I try and count decent players we signed last season, I get JPS, Perry then I'm stuck. Wotton - Sh*te Schneiderlin - Sh*te Robertson - Sh*te Pekhart - Sh*te Smith - Sh*te Molyneux - Sh*te Holmes - Injured Svensson - Injured You forgot Cork, he was probably our best outfield player last season. Agreed the rest where **** though. Three from fifthteen or so, great record. Scheniderlin especially, how we could ever justify spending money on an 18 year old French lad is beyond me.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Okay then Schneiderlin - Offers the team nothing defensively or offensively, but is actually brilliant. Holmes - Made a couple of decent crosses in the first month of the season before setting up shop in the physio room. Morgan is just 19 years old. He clearly has very good technique and if he can apply it I'd bet you anything he ends up at a much higher level. Holmes being injured does not make him sh*te.
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Disappointing - apart from his genorosity in giving away pens, he was easily one of our better players in the last 3-4 months. Certainly less disappointing than Surman I grant you that. He certainly does have potential.
Andy_Porter Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Morgan is just 19 years old. He clearly has very good technique and if he can apply it I'd bet you anything he ends up at a much higher level. He can pass a ball around quite well but is literally all he offers. He's like a really **** version of Surman who isn't exactly special. Holmes being injured does not make him sh*te. It still makes him useless.
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 You forgot Cork, he was probably our best outfield player last season. Agreed the rest where **** though. Three from fifthteen or so, great record. Scheniderlin especially, how we could ever justify spending money on an 18 year old French lad is beyond me. Typical Lowe transfer market dealing. 2 good 15 mediocre/poor.... relegation.
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Actually Andy, I quite liked Holmes. Potential in that young man.
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Lets not forget Gasmi or Pullis either. Good point.
Chez Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 (edited) Schneiderlin and Holmes are not sh*te Holmes is garbage, slow, has no trick, no engine, no workrate, doesn't track back, crap in the air, doesn't tackle, I'm not sure his first touch is all that either. Think Anders Svensson without the ability. I am perhaps being a little harsh but when he returned to the side he was appauling, woeful, no absolute utter ****e and a man that looked miles out of his depth. Schneiderlin has a great first touch, two feet and a decent passer. His workrate needs to up, he has to start winning headers and making tackles not to mention offering something gong forward. However he's only 19 and it was his first taste of English football so he should get more leeway than Holmes IMO. Edited 2 July, 2009 by Chez
L1Minus10 Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Lee Arjen Robben Holmes was consistant. He did **** all when he was fit and **** all when he was injured.
L1Minus10 Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 Back to the original post... at the moment we have no money so we have to look at the bottom end of the market. If he's **** in his trial, we won't sign him.... a bit like Ryan Smith.
fanimal Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 We are all still comparing our current squad to 2004 in reality, so quickly have we fallen. Holmes will not be Wayne Bridge, Chris Marsden or Gareth Bale, indeed none can compare lfl sad to say, but that is our level/standard now, accept it! cannot believe the vitriol from some at Andy Surman or many of our youngsters, Morgan included, shame on you for being so narrow minded.
NickG Posted 2 July, 2009 Posted 2 July, 2009 You're probably right. I doubt he was trusted to. JP saeijs was his
