Hatch Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Odds have come down from 20/1 to 7/4 on him joining Man Utd. Can't see it actually happening myself, but he would score a load of goals there I reckon if it did. My money is on him playing at Everton. Andy_Porter Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Will do his career good if he goes to United, Fergie won't want or need him to play every game and that can only be good for someone with a very dodgy injury record. He's obviously not a better allround player than Tevez but I can see him scoring a lot more goals than Tevez did last season. Valencia is a great player as well, he's criminaly under rated by a lot of people who obviously didn't watch Wigan play. He's like Park and Nani rolled into one winger. obviously no where near Ronaldos level but who is? IMO if United do get Owen and a world class midfielder they will go on to win the league and challenge for the Champions League.
saint lard Posted 3 July, 2009 Share Posted 3 July, 2009 Owen had an extensive medical on his Knee yesterday and will be undergoing a further medical today, prior to signing for Manchester United,
chrisobee Posted 3 July, 2009 Share Posted 3 July, 2009 (edited) Hmm interesting signing if it goes through. Guess it's pretty much a no lose situation for both if it goes through and I think the point about him not playing every game is a very valid one. Valencia is a good signing and though comparisons with Ronaldo are silly he certainly is worth more than 16m based on the reported £80m Real paid for Ronaldo. Owen Hargreaves should be back at some point as well, I think he is an excellent player and will be pretty much akin to a new signing. In other words Liverpool, Chelsea and the rest might still be a little way behind ? Edited 3 July, 2009 by chrisobee Spelling!

the stain Posted 3 July, 2009 Share Posted 3 July, 2009 Bloody good bit of business IMO. No transfer fee, performance-based contract. He scores loads off the bench (even at Newcastle he was scoring just under 1 in every 2 appearances) and his pace isn't an issue as he doesn't play that role anymore. He's quality but he's just been needing quality around him.

Andy_Porter Posted 3 July, 2009 Share Posted 3 July, 2009 no matter how you slice it losing tevez and ronaldo and replace them with owen and valencia is a big step back.. Season is 5 weeks away... Wouldn't be suprised if silva or a quality attacking midfielder joins before then.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 3 July, 2009 Share Posted 3 July, 2009 Great signing by old red nose. Owen is only 29 and if he stays injury free is still a great striker/goal scorer for both club and country. I hope he has a great season and makes the England squad for South Africa. Smirking_Saint Posted 3 July, 2009 Share Posted 3 July, 2009 If Owen stays fit and is on a cheap salary, will be a good signing. Think it'll be a Fergie masterpiece.
St Landrew Posted 3 July, 2009 Share Posted 3 July, 2009 If Owen could regain the pace that made him quite the predatory striker of his earlier years, then he would certainly be worth the gamble. And, with the players ManU have, fitting in should be easier. It's all up to him. He won't be wanting for top quality service. I'm thinking Fergie likes the idea of a challenge, and a chance to bring out the hairdryer treatment for one of the Premierships divas.
