Saints67 Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Watching Veron & Beckham 'warming up' (think it was just prior to the 6-1 drubbing) by standing one by the corner flag and the other diagonally opposite on the halfway line and chipping the ball to each other. Neither moved an inch to trap the ball.
matthieu Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler for Cardiff in the 07/08 season at SMS, never have I seen two players so uninterested in a game of football, that was amazing
Chez Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 the combination of Anders Limpar and Paul Merson on the wings in their second championship winning season (the season they wore the terrible yellow/black triangle pattern shirts) at the Dell. Tore us to pieces that day as they steam rolled everyone to win the title.

sidthesquid Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Pat Jennings always seemed immense against us in goal, as did Friedel - neither looked like they'd ever be beaten. The Arsenal team of Vieira, Henry, Wiltord, Pires etc were terrifying in attack - the speed and size of those guys surging forward was awesome & you truly felt we could be overrun by them (and often we were!) Victor Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 And one from nowhere, Carlisle's keeper in a classic Milk Cup tie at The Dell. We were 2-0 down from the first leg and threw everything at them but he stopped it all, till Martin Foyle got a late goal and we won in extra time. All a vivid memory for me as it was my first night match. So am I being clever in working out that the other goal that earned extra time was an own-goal? explorer saint Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 So am I being clever in working out that the other goal that earned extra time was an own-goal? Armstrong scored in the first 5 mins then Foyle scored again in extra time. Too much time on my hands today and have one of Duncans book handy! sidthesquid Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Dion Dublin always seemed to do disproportionately better against us than anyone else. Got just about his only Man U goal against us and always seemed to score his first goal in a dozen games against us
TijuanaTim Posted 2 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 2 July, 2009 At the Dell has to be Rosenthal for Spurs on that awful night when brucie couldn't stop a thing. Matin Keown always played well against us and always seemed to man mark Le Tiss out of the game. Also Ian Wright always seemed to score at least a hat trick against us as well. Peter Beagrie for Everton and that annoying celebration Keown let MLT loose once Saints 3:2 Arse 2001 ;-)

Hopkins Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Henry in the game at Highbury just before the cup final was immense. But the best was Berbatov last season. Simply awesome.
TijuanaTim Posted 2 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Thanks everyone, your making this fascinating reading. Here's three more....remember 'surprising' who good they were at that stage. Graham Roberts playing midfield for Tottenham, early in his Spurs career. Seem to remember they won 3-1...did he score two or even three maybe? Can someone check my mate Dunc's book or something?? This is a little odd one also. Paul Madeley for dirty Leeds, after all the other had got old, died or fuct off in the '79 LC semi at the Dell...he seemed about 47 years old and yet was composed, controlling and dominant from start to finish (just not being able to stop that rampant goal-scoring machine Terry Curran). Lastly....a real Classic, Mooro, yes Mooro, but not the Bobby of his halcyon West Ham days. This one the tired old timer seemingly taking advantage of Alec Stock's generous wage offer at Div II Fulham. This game, remembered by many of us, will be thought of more for Best's ejection for confirming he believed the official to be a '****' after a Slough tackle and then for Rodney Marsh feigning injury when in fact sulking of the park in sympathy with his idol Best. However, England's blonde Bobby...we had Channon and Ossie in full flight and at their cavalier best. All that stood between them and literally a cricket score was the truly 'World' class defending of a tired, slow, aged superstar. I will always hold Bobby Moore in the highest esteem...what a class act!! Or is my memory blurred?
shurlock Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Les ferdinand esp in his qpr days - so direct and had an unnerving ability to find the bottom corner from outside the area.
