OldNick Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 i read this as we are no nearer a takeover and he has been asked to stay on board to offer some sort of continuity. well hes got a job until friday at that rate then
Marsdinho Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 I have so much respect for Wotte, he’s been a 100% loyal and professional, a True gent / Saint…. A mean this sincerely; he isn’t the best manager in the world, but every time he comes out with comments like todays, it makes me think we should let him have a pop at Div 3. If we were able to take that risk !!!! In another lifetime (Saints still in the Prem) he would be an excellent member of the back room staff. Id better stop now, I might offer to have his babies soon….
Edmonton Saint Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 The first good news we have had in a while, Mr Wotte has impressed me with his attitude and comittment since relegation and I hope that he can be rewarded with a modicum of sucess next season.
alpine_saint Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 SSN,wotte has confirmed he will remain as manager. Of what, exactly ?
Give it to Ron Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Of what, exactly ? First class catering.....we have PlayRadio starting back up Saturday as well ....
the saint in winchester Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 I've read all your comments and we seem to be unsure of whether he has been given a rolling contract (with a period of notice to be given eg. a month) or a fixed term contract like he was on previously (expires 30 June). Personally, I'm underwhelmed, after all this talk of Keegan, Hoddle et al, but at the same time we do need some structure at this time. And he's better than nothing.
alpine_saint Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 First class catering.....we have PlayRadio starting back up Saturday as well .... hehehehe
Artavash Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 I think it's to his credit. Been messed about with wages, players leaving, no certainty over where the club is going (long or short term!). But he's prepared to stay and work at it. People talk a lot about loyalty - and he's shown buckets of it. Good man - lets hope if we're still afloat come the start of the season everyone gets behind him.

Good man - lets hope if we're still afloat come the start of the season everyone gets behind him. Or he's so bad he couldn't get a job anywhere else and now his luck is in because the Pinnacle deal fell through and he has a job again. For loyal read lucky. Just call me an old cynic. Signed Old Cynic
Chez Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Newcastle made an offer for Claus the summer we got relegated. We turned it down. he didn't though and cried for a move to Celtic as I recall.
Frank's cousin Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 How many other managers would we interset at teh moment? No owners, possibly going bust on friday, key players sold or out of contract and walking and about 6 weeks untill teh season starts when there might no even be a club - ANYONE who says they are prepared to work under those conditions must be mad.... but hey three cheers for the Crazy Dutch .... Seriously, whatever we think of the relegation and Wottes imapct on that, and his abilities as a manager, right now we need folk prepared to stand up and be counted and him staying on in our hour of need is honourable and deserves respect.
krissyboy31 Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Or he's so bad he couldn't get a job anywhere else and now his luck is in because the Pinnacle deal fell through and he has a job again. For loyal read lucky. Just call me an old cynic. Signed Old Cynic Actually he turned one job down and I think there was a second interested party but chose to hang around until his contract ended (knowing that if/when Pinnacle took over he would have probably been out of job). At the end of the day, the club needs someone in charge of first team affairs and at the moment cannot employ anyone from outside, therefore giving it to Wotte being the man in situ, was an easy decision.
Leslie Charteris Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 He was under no obligation to stay, he's out of contract now, so well done him. It's good that someone will be around to take training tomorrow and pick a team for Saturday. Anyway, the Academy players will be all that's left at this rate, so it will be a good way in to his new job...
Bailey Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Doesn't actually say how long for specifically. There's nothing to stop potential new owners sacking him and bringing in their own man if they wanted. Time will tell though. For what it's worth, I don't think Wotte is the man to take us forward, but I do commend him for his attitude during what has been a very difficult off-season. I can understand why he has been given the chance to continue in his current role, but long-term, I hope we appoint someone else with knowledge of the lower leagues.
RonManager Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Looks like Ince will be out of the running shortly
Mole Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Looks like Ince will be out of the running shortly Thank **** for that. I'd really hate to have him as our manager.
Cabrone Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Its at times like this that you see who the loyal people are and Wotte has certainly acted loyally. Not my 1st choice as manager but someone who by his actions has warmed on me. Thanks Mark.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Mmm, an interesting turn of events and Wotte should be applauded for sticking with Saints. However, I just wonder whether this is just a holding pattern by Fry to demonstrate that the club is still functioning. Lets face it Wottes position needed to be confirmed this AM, so in a sense it's hardly a surprise and IMO does little to reveal the true position.
Greenridge Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 The news just gets better and better for SFC. Still, beggars can't be choosers. Despite his failings as a manager he conducts himself with some dignity (when not slagging off the fans).
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 I think it just means that he had agree to be the manager until 30th June, but has agreed continue until all this mess is sorted out. Really hope it doesn't mean he will be our permanent manager next season. Oi !! Oversized avatar privileges for us little people too
saintstr1 Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 I think it's to his credit. Been messed about with wages, players leaving, no certainty over where the club is going (long or short term!). Thedelldays Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Thank **** for that. I'd really hate to have him as our manager. because of the colour of his skin..?
surrey1saint Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Good on Mark I say,at least he has shown dignity. Got to be good for now.
sarum saint Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Good news. Not everybody's hoice but he's got more integrity than most and the club owe him a debt of gratitude if not the actual managers job.One of the few to come out of this whole debacle with any kudos.
SaintRobbie Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 SSN,wotte has confirmed he will remain as manager. League 2 here we come.
surrey1saint Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Does this mean something positive is going to happen soon?
NickG Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Not for long i hope...[-o The man has no idea.... 12 months?
Dutch-Saint Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Good on him. He has carried himself with great dignity throughout this debacle. Fair play to him. The team needs guidance and he's all we have. He could've walked, but he hasn't. Quite agree !
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 12 months? No idea about Championship and most likely less about league one.. Bad news this
SaintRobbie Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 behave He's utter rubbish TDD. League 2 here we come.
SaintRobbie Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 The true gents like Wotte and Crouch have stood out in what has been and still is a hoffiric time for saints. The true gents put us in this position. Reinforcing failure was a Lowe trait. I hope the new owners see sense and bring in their own manager asp.
PhilB Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 The first good news we have had in a while, Mr Wotte has impressed me with his attitude and comittment since relegation and I hope that he can be rewarded with a modicum of sucess next season. Reading through the posts this is the first sensible one I've seen that I agree with. Give MW a chance you goons instead of whinging and moaning. I'm just as fed up & piissed off as the rest of you about the SFC fiasco but at least this man wears his heart on his sleeve.
OldNick Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 but at least this man wears his heart on his sleeve.that must be a bit risky
Saint 76er Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Very hard to know if this is an indication of new owners pending and sanctioned by them to give Wotte first crack at it, or simply the reality of needing some sort of coaching structure to progress with pre season and, yes, to send a message to the FL. It seemed to have previously been established that Wotte's contract was relatively low paying so probably not much financial risk at stake and, of course, he is fully up to speed with playing squad so continuity is provided. However, any new owners will need to be mindful of the transfer window and bring in a new manager PDQ if that's what they want so he can assemble his own squad. If Wotte starts bringing in players I guess he is here at least semi permanently and in which case perhaps he will become "manager" instead of HC. Maybe also we are now in pole position to bring back Size from Holland...
SaintRobbie Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 This is yet more BAD news. I dont see how anyone could support this eejit in charge of the team. A man who relegated us to League 1, is best mates with Lowe, has no tactical idea, is uninspirational, no idea about the league, no respect, guaranteed to cause division amongst the fans and starts his new term with many fans expecting and almost hoping he fails! The blokes a loser. Last of the Lowe-lifes. AND largely responsible for project youth totally daft football. And people like him as he has shown dignity in defeat?! DEFEAT. He is a loser 100% loser.
NickG Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Think it is good, and needed decision. 12 month contract gives him a bit of grounding to look to plan. Clearly new owners will review with their preference and budget.
SaintRobbie Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Clearly new owners will review with their preference and budget. Let's hope so. WOTTE OUT!

NickG Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Let's hope so. WOTTE OUT! almost makes me want new owners to give him a second year!
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Its a good move. We needed some certainty at this stage. Things couldnt be left to drift. Presumably this also means there will be a club after Friday and the new owners are happy with Wotte at the moment. Agreed. The bloke has conducted himself with real dignity in quite uncertain and trying times and this at least gives the club some semblance of stability. He could (& probably should!) have walked away, especially with all the (as it turned out) presumptuous announcements from Pinnacle that they had an English manager lined up, but he didn't and that at least shows a bit of loyalty that many associated with the club have lacked in recent years.

Agree with all this except the highlighted bit as i never want sfc to fail. We should be looking to keep Kelvin first and foremost not making this clown a priority,
SaintRobbie Posted 1 July, 2009 Posted 1 July, 2009 Doesn't the fact that you are consistently wrong and off the pace discourage you in any way? I beg to disagree... might have got the MLT takeover a bit wrong but 14 months of constantly predicting the future wrt Lowe, JP and Wotte has been sadly - very sadly - spot on ol' chap. What annoys me most is that all I want is a WINNER in charge for a change. Just once... a WINNER at Saints... we deserve it dont we? Wotte is a Lowe-style loser. PROVEN failure. A relegator. PLEASE NEW OWNERS... GIVE US SOMEONE TO UNITE BEHIND AND SOME HOPE!
