Good on him. He has carried himself with great dignity throughout this debacle. Fair play to him. The team needs guidance and he's all we have. He could've walked, but he hasn't.

I think it just means that he had agree to be the manager until 30th June, but has agreed continue until all this mess is sorted out. Really hope it doesn't mean he will be our permanent manager next season.

Its a good move. We needed some certainty at this stage. Things couldnt be left to drift. Presumably this also means there will be a club after Friday and the new owners are happy with Wotte at the moment.

What choice is there right now? Just let the team not train or anything. I'm sure it's a temporary measure.

Svensson is also staying on. Without them do we just expect the players to just run round the block every now and then with no coaching?

here here....i second that

It probably means he hasn't got anything else in the pipeline for him to go to so this is the best deal at the moment, hardly surprising considering his career record.

I'm not sure how anyone's reading this as a bad thing. We're in admin folks, we haven't got an owner. Our coaching staff are out of contract. Wotte has agreed to stay on and keep coaching the squad in preparation for the new season, regardless of whether we get bought and any new buyers choose to retain his services. Good man. Would everyone prefer we just gave up?

In a football world these days which is filled with mercenaries, egos and those who put £££ before anything else, Mark Wotte has been a fantastic example of a man who has been unselfish, looked at the bigger picture and is, I think, genuinely delighted to be at Southampton Football Club.

Whatever debate there is about his skills as a manager, and whether people think he should remain in charge, I hope that everyone will respect the way Mark Wotte has acted throughout.

Good good good. He could have buggered off leaving us without anyone to take training. That would have been a disaster.

Personally I'd rather have someone else in charge in the long term but I'm glad Wotte has stuck by us despite being constantly kept in the dark and treated very badly.

I respect how Wotte has acted as we've been going through all this ****e. Not unhappy at the decision.

Bloody hell, i agree with one of bungles posts

I think the way he was conducted himself is to be commended.

I also believe that he has a far better grip of what lower league English football is about, than Poortvliet did.

He also is aware of the playing staff situation (to a degree), and I would rather he continued than give the job to someone else so late in the day, with pre season already under way.

What he said; he certainly wouldn't be my first choice manager but at this moment in time ANY form of continuity has got to be a good thing. Fair play to him.

yeah, rolling contract basically until such time as we dont need him. Thats how I read it.

I think we should all shake his hand and say thank you.

As has been said by others he could easily have walked.

I do think that if anyone buys us (that's if) then they will probably replace him.

true and hows the knee?

I would guess a rolling contract. It is better then having nobody to try and sort it out. But when/if the new deal goes through i hope he will return to youth manager.

I was just going to post that.....although I have been anti-Wotte due to his inability as manager here I think we have no other option.

I think this is a Tointon/Jones decision. I hope this is one of Jones better ones ;-)

reminds of the loyalty Claus showed us - no one made a better offer.

Having said that I respect the way he has handled the situation and I hope he can get us winning games if we get the chance.

From the way he's speaking on the OS it sounds as if he's been told that he is going to be here long term. Hope he isn't but its good news for now & as has already been said fair play to him for the way he has conducted himself through this whole sorry saga, atleast someone is going to be down there actually taking training which is a bonus so that aslong as we do manage to get taken over then the players will be in some sort of decent shape for the season.

Never had much of a problem with Wotte, atleast he's got a clear passion for the club & is trying to do his best, I firmly believe had he been in charge of the team from the start of last season instead of Poortvliet then we may well still be in the Championship.

That said, i do think its best he goes once this is all over & we start off from a completly new slate.

I've now read the statement a couple of times and it is clear to me that there is an agreement in principle with somebody. If he had been appointed until Friday it wouldn't have been worded the way it has been.

It convinced me that the actual purchase of the club has now all but been completed. Curious to know by whom.

I agree good news, but have to say the ladling on of 'he is very honourable/principled/delicious and chocolatey' stuff is a bit over the top.

Also does seem to imply that something is afoot.

Newcastle made an offer for Claus the summer we got relegated. We turned it down.

Could it just be the opposite, that as we have now sold Surman, we have agreed with the FL to carry on in Admin for now?

Agreed. If we were to start winding up on Friday there would have been no point in this or in taking Killer back on. Something must be in the wind and I hope that in these days of running off for the best offer, they are rewarded for their loyalty if/when we get a new regime in.

For all you moaners, now is a vital time in preparation of the team for a season which is going to be hard enough as it is. Just get behind our manager and players whilst we've still got them to support.
