madsent Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 No worse than sponsoring the league I would imagine (Coca Cola Championship etc), or allowing a team to move 50 miles from its roots and adopting an American style name (MK Dons) Red Bull Southampton sounds good and the name is just semantics like the Friends Provident St Marys Stadium, which was always St Marys to the fans, the team will always be Southampton FC (but with a new a badge, sponsor and no stripes I would imagine - still Red and White though) To this day, I never understood why we the fans refused to accept the new stadium being called "The Friends Provident Stadium". I've never heard Bolton, Huddersfield, Leicester, Coventry or Arsenal fans complain about the names of their stadia. By refusing total naming rights to the stadium, we drastically reduced our annual sponsorship money.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 In the past the fans of the 4 other football clubs(and others they tried to buy) under the the Red Bull name have put up a fight. If this rumour is true Saints fans may just be happy of any takeover and accept it. Names can always be changed back once Red Bull leave us. eelpie Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Don't think anyone would care that much about names right now. To be associated with Red Bull would be fab in my book, better than old Red Face anyway! Classic!

Umm, I think you'll find that Flybe didn't want to pay for naming rights to the stadium not that they weren't being sold. Of course it was spun such that it looked the board had caved to fan pressure.......

hugh Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Just out of interest, has Fry ever stated that one of the interest parties were from Switzerland? Are we still getting our Austria's and Switzerland's mixed up (Red Bull=Austrian), or is this a general question?
wireframebox Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Are we still getting our Austria's and Switzerland's mixed up (Red Bull=Austrian), or is this a general question? That was my point really. Could it have been a case of reverse-numptyism in the intial reports that have just stuck? Straws very much clutched at! On a lighter note a did write to Red Bull uk a few days ago in "Jim'll-fix-it" style highlighting our plight and a need for a generous saviour. I got the following reply. Hi Dan, Well... I can certainly pass this on to the Sports team... but I'm not sure if they're in the market for a football club!!! We can but see! All the best, Brian Saccente Red Bull Company Ltd.
