It was inventible after their ''Exclusivity'' ended.

I personally don't believe they were ever close to buying the club, I expect Lynam spent the majority of the time trying to find backers - They clearly did not have the funds from word go.

The obstacles from the FL should not have been a last minute realisation, anyone with any business sense or intelligence to look at the Leeds case will know that it's not as straight forward as ''-10''.

I will never forgive Lynam and the way they wasted the exclusivity period - and maybe I even questions Fry's judgement on awarding it to them.

Something was fundamentally wrong with their ''bid'' from the day 1 - and I am so sad that they decided to pull MLT's name down with them.

This is the end - and so typically, it ends in a farce.

I'm sure you are right, Pap, but the Ruper Lowe saga is something else. Fans, couches and other football people (Lawrie Mac for one) were continously insulted with a breathtaking arrogance. His behaviour would have turned away the customers of any company.

So now they are out can anybody name the supposedly substantially wealthy backers behind the tit who rolled up on SSN for his 15 minutes of fame, or will they just forever be the anonymous ****woggles that played us for fools?

What a nightmare.

All i want is to buy a season ticket and see my team play football. Now it looks like we won't get the chance. All preperation for this season has gone tits up.

What a disaster.

I live in Liverpool these days. It's rare to find somebody who doesn't support either Liverpool or Everton.

Contrast that with Southampton. Half the people there don't care about football at all, and half of those that are left are glory-hunters who support big teams.

Even among Saints fans, there has been a ton of division. Pro-Lowe, anti-Lowe, stayaways, "only interested when we were in the Premiership".

Gutted that we could be closing up shop this Friday. If we don't, that stadium needs to be filled. The number of empty seats the last couple of years has been an embarrassment. Say what you like about the sk*tes, but they've always been there for their team.

Thats rubbish!!! They have only been there for their team since they got to the premier league. When they were in the old first/second division they regularly saw crowds of 8,000 ish and lower!

I don't think your "company" comparison is germane in these circumstances. If Nike went bust, I can buy Adidas because I don't have an emotional investment.

If the Southampton Football Company ceases to exist, I am not about to start buying football entertainment from the Portsmouth Football Company.

Not sure that Fry can threaten to wind up the club on Friday whilst there are still bidders out there.

If Nottm Forest have paid £1m for DMG then half of that is used to pay June's wages, some is due to Notts C (not sure how much), and some is used to keep the club functioning in the meantime. If Surman goes for £1.5m that must keep us going for at least 2 months??

This surely allows us to get into next season, albeit still admin like Darlington have been, and drawing in revenue from the gate. So I'm hoping that whilst there are bidders there is still hope. (and I'm sure the FL won't want the ignomy of a club failing mid season)

I went there on a biology field trip in that late 90's and the ground was way less than half full ..

Maybe...? These clowns clearly had no funding. What the hell has this professional administrator actually been up to all this time? He said he was satisfied they had the funds. Sorry, I just don't believe it. Lynham took offence at the label "tyre-kickers". I should think his toes are black and blue by now. He is the very definition of time waster. If anyone does buy this club, Fry should give them a big discount off the Administrator's fees.

I so hope this friend of yours knows what he/she is talking about.

These last few months have been too much without any more wind-up merchants!

I tried to push for more but got a reply of just trust me, so I do and so that cheered me up

Aviva (Norwich Union) issued the mortgage for St Mary's. That means that they own the place. If there is no football club playing there it can't pay for itself. Bon Jovi can't be there every two weeks, and who is to pay the rent in between concerts?

So there is at least one creditor, for our biggest debt, who has got a major incentive for Saints survival. If football was a different world I could see them flogging it to those blue buggers down the road need a stadium, but since this is the real world it will not happen.

I remember a time when it seemed like they were! Bl00dy OS more concerned with concerts than they were the football.

Ah, remember the glory days when all we had to moan about was the OS and the catering?

It's probably the wrong thing to say, but they could knock it down and build houses. Very popular thing to do to football stadiums these days it seems. :(

Fair dos, boys. I retract my last sentence.

I suspect they found some very, very scary figures in the books and just used the -10 issue as a convenient face saving way of baling out......

As soon as I saw that " character " on SSN I knew everyone were wasting their time. There was one thing , one thing above everything else that had to be avoided at all cost and that was not to get chancers/wasters/tyre kickers, call them what you may involved in a time wasting exercise. The club/administrator could not afford it,but in the way of much of SFC in recent years , THEY FAILED.

Wait for it some time tomorrow ..................... Pinnacle bid is back on ! Blah blah blah

OK then, here goes. From what I hear there's no need to panic. More going on than meets the eye with Pinnacle. Don't panic just yet.

Who's panicking? I haven't noticed any sense of panic anywhere. :---)

if true, that does not surprise me.

Pinnacle prepared to pay £14m.

Club sells a couple of players £2m - the better ones

Now offers £8m (say)

Break up value £6m (say)

Same source as this one...?:-

I know this is going to sound stupid, but I heard (from a friend of Lynam's) that the money was coming from either someone involved with RBS (I posted this a couple of weeks ago) or The National Bank of Abu Dhabi. Sorry, but I have no more information on this, and don't even know if it's accurate or not. Make of it what you will.

cheers

Top assets - there's a classic oxymoron when prefaced by 'Southampton's...'

Well, never said they were 'top assets' in the dictionary sense, unfortunately our crown silver is nothing more than a rusty spoon.

I may be in need of medicinal help but I have a hunch we will be ok.

Apparently Pinnacle only just pipped the Swiss when getting exclusivity so justmaybe we are closer than we think to being rescued.

God I pray that is the case.

Yes but what was the Swiss reaction to the -10 / -25 scenario. It sent Pinnacle packing (eek)?

I can't believe that anyone still thinks that the points deduction had ANYTHING to do with Pinnacle dropping out. It's just a convenient excuse for not having the money to step forward with the bid.

Can someone also answer a few questions-

Why- if you decided to but a football club for say £15million would you decide to go to TL to broker the deal?

Has he bought football clubs before?

Has he dealt with many complex multi million pound deals before?

If you had 'several hundred millions pounds', wouldn't you use your own legal team who would have probably worked with you for years?

The trouble is- we ALL wanted to believe TL and very few(including me) gave any thoughts to whether he was just another fantasist like MJ.

Given that MJ moved from Bournemouth to Saints- which club do we think TL will get involved with next?

Pinnacle fleeced us good and proper! i don't think they ever had any money, just cost us 5 weeks trying to finalise a buyer, for that i will never forgive them! (not matt of couse)

In the end what happened with them didn't help us but I keep going back to the question of what Pinnacle would gain for 'fleecing' us. They've ****ed a small fortune up the wall in time and cash and I can't see why they'd do that just for the fun of getting a few bored-at-work types all irate

Posted

So if we go tits up the Football league lose a club, the creditors get sod all and SMS sits empty instead of generating revenue. When is someone at the Football League and Begbies going to wake up and smell the coffee?

They didn't pay any cash up front, leon Crouch did.

I am pleased that Pinnacle have not bought the club as I was never impressed with what they were doing or saying.

I thought getting Leon and MLT was populist and suggested that they had little else behind them

I keep seeing this but does anyone actually have any proper evidence that Crouch did indeed put that money up?

Is the shop still open? I feel the need to get another shirt in case its the last I'll ever wear :(

Seriously hoping for good news come Friday, but now very worried that I'll no longer have a team. Absolutely gutted yesterday :(

Not entirely germane, I give you that, but the "customers" here did something else. They didn't buy another brand (that is the peculiarity of team sports) they just stopped buying. If the CEO of Nike was so arrogant towards his customers they will probably buy another brand, so that Nike goes bust. In a way that is what has happened here.

In my experience arrogance is nothing specific to RL, senior management everywhere in the UK is steeped in a culture where it plays a major part. Mostly, although not always, they keep their arrogance private. RL couldn't stop himself from going public with it at every turn.

ill think you will find that matt put some upfront to ..which his mrs was not impressed about when she found out

Nobody here has any real hard evidence AFAIK. However, Crouch's 'no comment' on the matter speaks volumes.

Matt needs to share some blame - he had a duty to check out the people he was prepared to allow his name to be tied to. Sorry. Matt's patronage enabled Pinnacle to prolong the charade.

Of course both MLT and Crouch if they paid out money should take blame.

I cannot believe MLT and Crouch would be dumb enough to pay out their own cash while Lynham was banging on about someone worth hundreds of millions being behind it.

It makes no sense.
