Andy Murray

Have to admit, ol' Andy fights like a British Tennis male player hardly ever did, certainly in my flawed living memory. Usually, it's a case of the Brit failing pathetically, but with Tim [oh our Tim] it was a case of just failing, after such an effort - phew..! It was always ever so english tea and victoria sandwich with our Tim. Such is British Tennis, on the whole, although tbf, Canadian Greg Rusedski bucked the trend, in his own way. And for a while he was Britain's No.1, and obtained a higher rank than our Tim ever did. Honest, it's true..!

But with Murray, I sense a bit of a working class street fighter. A bloke who says to himself, I'll be f****d if I'm going to let this tw*t win. And much more often than not, he doesn't - let him win, I mean. And that's when he's actually stretched. When he isn't, he plays like a bloke who doesn't like playing, i.e. he wraps the game up in the shortest possible time. It's about time Murray finally showed the Brits that they can play tennis like everyone else on the planet. Because we're running out of people who like sponge cake with their tea.

Henman won loads of matches like the one last night. Murray was the higher ranked player, on home turf, and struggled through in 5 sets. That's pretty much the Henman script.

Oh, and Henman and Rusedki both reached number 4 in the world.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good match yesterday, but Murray was expected to win, and very nearly lost. That's nothing to get too excited about.

Bloody hell, class warfare! Must be the Surrey boy in me coming out in my defence of Tim. So Greg is Canadian and Tim is English, but Murray is British? Shurely Shome Mishtake... by your maths he should be Scottish, no?

Tim and Greg both reached ATP #4, so thats one of your facts blown out of the water.

All Murray did yesterday was Tim did countless times - got taken to 5 sets on Centre Court by an opponent he should have (on paper) walked all over. Now, what he needs to do on Wednesday is to actually WIN the next game to break the cycle. He even started to fall in to doing the Henners fist clench with each point won. Slippery slope.

Didnt realise he played tennis. Does he have a pint during games rather than squash?

Well, Murray just walked past Ferrero happy days. I think he is more likely to beat Roddick out of Roddick and Hewitt. Never underestimate Lleyton Hewitt.

Greg Rusedski did do what Henman never did; reach a grand slam final, but over whole careers, Henman was by the far the more successful player.

I believe he also wore an Argie shirt.

He went into an interview and a reporter asked him if he would be supporting scotland at the world cup, Whilst laughing. So he replied i won't be supporting england. Completely blown out of all proportion.

It's this level of gullibility that really gets on my tits. For a start, Andy said this after he was directly asked by an English journalist if he would be supporting Scotland in the world cup, knowing full well Scotland hadn't qualified, this was his light-hearted retort. The journalist being the type that he was decided to run with that quote out of context (not including the quote from the journo). He did not wear an Argentine shirt, in fact the story that is false was based on him wearing a Paraguay t-shirt.

Murray is a decent guy who takes his sport serious and probably comes across as a bit miserable... the same accusations could be said about Mansell. I'm 100% behind Murray.

Does Murray have a Dad?

Apparantly so, mentioned he was there before the match though the cameras just seem to focus on Judy, his mother. I am guessing they are separated? and the mother has been more involved in the tennis side?

Another British tennis player chokes Wimbledon when it really counts.............

To be honest, I've been ambivalent about him since he started making anti-English comments.

Did you watch the game? he hardley choked. Was just outplayed by Roddick on the day who produced his best tennis for years. Don't understand why British people hate our more successfull sportsman so much? He's 22 years old and no3 in the world and will win a grand slam event in the near future. Re anti English coments, it was a tonge in cheek comment made by an experienced young player several years ago and exploited by our lovely media who also love to give British sports stars stick at any opportunity.

I would say he did choke

murray was the higher ranked player

murray had just won a grass title

murray was the top seed in his half of the draw

murray had much much better recent form

murray had played less sets/games upto that point in the competition

murray did not pull it out of the bag when it mattered

Erm, Murray didn't exactly play badly, he just came up against Roddick ( a former World number 1, US Open and 2 time Wimbledon finalist) who played out of his skin.

Murray has already achieved more than the likes of Heman has so far in his short career, why don't people just back him?

As for the anti-english stuff? If that honestly upsets you so much you should probably consider getting a life.

And the fact that he doesn't smile enough? Who really cares. He's paid to play tennis. And he has horrible teeth and an awful smile so you can't really blame him for that either.

i think that is half of our problem in our country..we praise failure too much..

john McEnroe was saying that roddick is seen a some what of a failure at home as he does not stack up the grandslams..

similar attitude exists in russia, australia etc etc...

we on the other hand......................

Erm, the most successful British player for decades? Hardly say we're praising a failure (in fact I'm not even praising him anyway, merely acknowledging that he was beaten by someone who was simply playing better on the day, but that judging by average form he would normally beat).

What's the higher seed got to do with it unless you are suggesting higher seeds do not lose matches. I see Tommy Haas got to the last 4 seeded at 24  and what happened to Safina and Djokovic

of course the higher seed has something to do with...potentially makes your route to the final easier....hence why he played less games/sets than roddick

Yes the first few rounds it can perhaps ease them in gently. Murray got to the semi-final though...

No route to the final is easy, Tommy Haas wasn't expected to get past the third round on his seeding but got to the semi's.....as I said what happened to Djokovic, Safina and the rest that got knocked out by lower ranked players and how many times has Murrey knocked out Federer as the lower ranked player?
