bungle Posted 29 June, 2009 Share Posted 29 June, 2009 Has anyone ever stayed in one of these (hotel type thing as part of a Wetherspoon's pub)? Are they any good? I have just booked to stay in the one in Salisbury in early August.

hamster Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 Has anyone ever stayed in one of these (hotel type thing as part of a Wetherspoon's pub)? Are they any good? I have just booked to stay in the one in Salisbury in early August. We stopped at that one in March, really nice room, especially for the prioce (2-4-1) BUT it is one of the most poplular bars in salisbury and gets very, very noisy up 'til about 1AM. We were there for the Fri and Sat and took in some live music which although limited in choice of venue was still quite good. Rather than early nights we simply stayed in the bar until it died down a bit. It may be worth asking for a room not directly over the bar area as I think some rooms are along a corridor over the bank next door. There was a thread in the 'Arts Forum', I think it was 'live music in Salisbury' or something similar. And if you have not been in there before, you must try the Haunch of Venison' it's magical, especially if the locals are celebrating the catching of a mole with bottle of Sloe Gin, as they were when we went in. A very friendly bunch, and apparently fantastic food if you can geta table. Stay away from the italian restaurant (LOL) on the corner near to the Cathedral, the staff don't give a **** and if you are the type to always tip, the place will learn you why you should not do so. Winchester Gate in our experience is not worth the 10 minute walk and would not in fact be worth a 1 minute walk, dirty sticky carpet and skanky punters. bungle Posted 2 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Cheers for the advice. Luckily, I'm at a wedding reception until midnight, so to be honest was just thinking of having a nightcap and by then I should be able to sleep through anything!
