ladysaint Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Just received this from a friend in Holland. Just read that NAC Breda have not offered a contract to Ryan Smith. But they now have another Saints player called Lee Molyneux on trial until next Saturday. The report says he came through the youth ranks at Everton but signed for Saints last year. However he never really made it to the 1st team with only 4 appearances last season.

Neither were able to perform well under two Dutch managers, so why would they do any better under another Dutch manager? Didn't they hear that Ryan Smith was a World Class player, according to Wotte?
saints_is_the_south Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Both players could probably do a job in League 1 tbh, maybe not as starters but certainly back up.
Pancake Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Echos what Martini said earlier today: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=349749&postcount=50
The9 Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Can't say I'll miss Molyneux much, as for Smith, I'm just glad we didn't have him on a permanent deal. God, to think he was one of the players at the forefront of Wenger's first generation of League Cup urchins...
Torres Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 They're welcome to either or both of them, as they are both useless. Neither were able to perform well under two Dutch managers, so why would they do any better under another Dutch manager? Is the nationality of the manager important?
The9 Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Is the nationality of the manager important? Other than being able to understand him you'd think not... unless you were particularly suggestible and came on here a lot.
Wes Tender Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Is the nationality of the manager important? Sometimes. It equally applies to players of different nationalities playing in leagues foreign to them. Factors such as the understanding of how the game is played in that country and communication skills come into the equation. There are sufficiently numerous examples of managers from one country not being successful at another to add weight to the point, the same with players.
stthrobber Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Ryan Smith will be the next Overmars. Think you're setting the bar a bit high there, Overmars no, Overseas, possibly:p

I still don't know why he was signed when Mills looked more than capable and quite clearly would improve with more games under his belt. Has Mills signed a new deal yet?
Torres Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 There are sufficiently numerous examples of managers from one country not being successful at another to add weight to the point, the same with players. There are? Who has not been successful under a certain manager purely because of that manager's nationality?

That puzzled me Chez, Mills looked very good for one so young last season, no accident that we loan him to S****horpe and they go up. I don't know if he has signed a new deal but hope he does. What was going through JP's/Wotte's/Lowe's head at the time I will never be able to fathom.

I remember Mills and Monk both having to drop down a division and they have both become decent players and more than coped when they moved back up a level. James Lancashire Thomas Mills might do OK next season.

I guess the thinking was that Mills looked a little lightweight in a team that was already overloaded with kids and Skacel (and Surman relatively speaking) gave us a little more experience. I think could have done a decent job for us given a bit more of a chance and with a few more experienced heads around, he was unlucky that we had options in his position, especially compared to the right back slot.
SFC Forever Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Won't be long now till we know who we want to keep and who will be going. Still hope we get some muscle in to boost the squad. I also hope we can keep Mills, Lancashire and Gillett. DMG and Surman look like going soon. Lallana might be allowed to go as well. Spiderman could be good for us if he can toughen up some.
explorer saint Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Be delighted to get rid of both thought Molyneux was one of the worst ever players to grace the left back spot.
Wes Tender Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 There are? Who has not been successful under a certain manager purely because of that manager's nationality? :confused:Perhaps I phrased that badly. There are numerous examples of managers who have been successful in their own countries, but who have not achieved the same level of success in other countries. The same applies to players who have excelled in one country, but have not shone when playing in another country.
The9 Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Be delighted to get rid of both thought Molyneux was one of the worst ever players to grace the left back spot. O'Halloran was worse, surely ? At least Molyneux looked like he might be able to attack.
This Charming Man Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 I'd be over the moon if we were to get rid of Ryan Smith - one of the worst players I've ever seen.
krissyboy31 Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 I'd be over the moon if we were to get rid of Ryan Smith - one of the worst players I've ever seen. As of midnight tomorrow, he is no longer a Saints player whether he signs elsewhere, or not.
DrunkenSaint Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 A good everton friend of mine says that Molyneux is very good and that he must of had a few bad games for us with all this hate. He was very upbeat about him when he was at everton but with the likes of Baines and Lescot he couldnt get in the side, i think give this lad a chance and he'll be good.
Sold To The Man @ The Bar Posted 29 June, 2009 Posted 29 June, 2009 Ryan Smith will be the next Overmars. Will he F**K !!
