Burger Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Doesn't make them less of a supporter, just makes them a bit of a w***er. probably true.....but if I say that then I'm also showing lack of tolerance
sotonjoe Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 If I saw ... "Loads of Saints fans at the harbour side today, between 30-40 of them. All with pints in there hands and all singing "Southampton till I die" and "pompey fan on a string" when they were seen." ... I'd first make a witty remark about the different meaning s of "there" and "their" but then I would be embarrassed by the behaviour shown. If they told me they were celebrating the life a friend, I would say "I'm very sorry to hear about your friend but do you have to be drunkenly swigging pints on the harbour side, singing football songs and making a general nuisance of yourselves?" I think that's a very fair point to be honest, other members of the general public don't want to be confronted with what many of them will see as 'yobbos' on a sturday afternoon when they're trying to take the kids or grannie out for a walk. This is all assuming the OP's description is correct of course. If it isn't, then my interpretation of the situation will have to change accordingly.

What are your views on Saints fans singing in pubs in towns all over the country when Saints are playing away? By the way, it was actually nearer 100, not 30-40.
sotonjoe Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 What are your views on Saints fans singing in pubs in towns all over the country when Saints are playing away? By the way, it was actually nearer 100, not 30-40. Speaking as somebody who is empathising with the general public for the sake of a bit of reasoned debate... I think many people tolerate football fans singing in public and outside pubs on matchdays as they see it as part of the football matchday routine. Many people are objective enough to understand that football fans go to football, have a drink and sing songs in the ground and the vicinity of the ground. I don't think the general public are expecting the behaviour described in the original post to occur in the middle of June and nowhere near a relevant football ground. Therefore, they will probably see it as a bit unsavoury and react negatively towards it.
Toadhall Saint Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Hope you had a good day out lads. Pity about the scouser but there you go. Sorry to hear about your mate.
Mole Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Anyone who sings that awful "Pompey Fan On A String" song is gyppo scum and an embarrassment to the club and, most notably, themselves. Furthermore, this can be extended to those who wear football shirts as casual wear. Whatever went on down in Weymouth, no matter what the reason, it is bound to be embarrassing. Maybe they should show a bit more respect. I wouldn't be so hasty in defending these pikeys, although I know you are old so it is not unexpected. As with most of your posts you fail to engage your brain before typing.
docker-p Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Sounded like a good p1ss up. All good nothing bad.
TheMidfieldGeneral Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Typical comments from the Neighbourhood watch citizens arrest wa***rs on here. Why don`t you just go about your own business and let others go about theirs...!! How did the OB take the setting alight of the Benjani shirt??

lee_saint Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 There is at least 1 Saints fan in Aberdeenshire Two in Alloa, well, they follow our results and come down to at least two games a season.

Reading some of the comments, there are some sad gimps that post on here.
bigtonesfc Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 It was a proper lads day out,no locals were hurt and a good few joined in with the banter.A couple of Pompey shirts bit the dust, heyho!Just a friendly day out,so ****s like Sotonjoe wanna keep their big gobs shut when talking about things they know nothing about!

Hopefully catch up with you in the season, Soul Cellar maybe? Take care mate. Well said that man. Hmm... Reading this and a couple of his other posts, I can't help but wonder if our dear old chum Flashdance Canteen Bear has added yet another id to his already impressive list. I thought exactly that earlier this morning.

I know quite few of them and I think you should shut the **** up.... You know nothing of what happened at Weymouth apart from a group of Saints fans on a day out to pay their respects to recently deceased fellow Saints fan. You make a whole load of assumptions of what sort of people they are and roundly insult them all.. No doubt groups of friends meeting up for a drink confuse a lot of the internet obssessed saddos on here who have no friends at all... I doubt very much any of these muppets would ever dare be so mouthy to these people's faces. It would appear they only possess balls whilst sat behind a computer screen. Ironic that they slag people off for "causing trouble, being mouthy and being embarassing" and then do the very same thing here, albeit virtually and online.... Pathetic, the lot of you...
Loyal Saint Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Glad you had a good day lads and sorry to hear about your mate. Ignore the usual dickheads
bigtonesfc Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Glad you had a good day lads and sorry to hear about your mate. Ignore the usual dickheads These are the same people who,if they go to football, will stick next to the "gypos" and "chavs" for their own safety! Two faced w@nkers!
wagon 84 Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Some of the comments posted on here make me cringe, what gives you the right to judge people when to be honest you aint gotta clue. I was there along with 100 others having a few beers singing a few songs celebrating a life of a fellow lad, there was no trouble no intimidation no bullying just lads on a jolly having a good day out in the sun. Now if some of you got a problem with that then i think you need to take a look at yourself in the mirror & have a word.

Thedelldays Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 LOL at the numbnut posting on a thread about something he didnt even attend! i was laughing at the thought of "sticking" with the gypos to safeguard my own safety at game.. hmmm, I think not my pedigree chum
LGTL Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 We do have some utter, utter gimps as fans. The replies of some on here really don't surprise me.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 LOL at the numbnut posting on a thread about something he didnt even attend! Bigtone, the guy's contradicting himself. While moaning about alleged misbehaviour at Weymouth he has this to say over on the Glastonbury thread! . . .Kasabian are on now and the amount of flags on big sticks is winding me up watching it on telly......what would top it off if I was there would be if some bloke had his missus sat on his shoulders in front of me.... I would have to push her off... That from a 'law abiding' member of this nation's Forces!

yorkie Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Call me old fashioned - but I like a pint and a sing song at the appropriate time...out of season in Weymouth though...seems a bit odd! The "Pompey fan on a string song..." is some what pathetic. Perhaps I can excuse morons singing it at SMS - but a holiday resort in summer? I have no gripe with anti-Pompey songs - but to "kick his ****ing head in" outside a football stadium is cringe worthy at least! Sure I've sung stupid songs outside a football stadium, and use the "f" word on a daily basis if I can't think of another word to make my point...but for those there - how many have wives and kids and would use that word in front of them? "Oh look it's boring old Yorkie having a dig at the morons again" - grow up I've been there, sung the songs and got the T-shirt. I welcome the celebration of anyone's life - and even if it was Deano's favorite song was it sung at his funeral? I know sometimes people come on here with a "holier than thou" approach - but sometimes it is justified. Give me "Que sera sera..." if you must sing about Pompey - no one get's offended, and it's non violent (exceopt for the shooting bit)! Personally if it was me with the missus in a East Coast resort and I saw a load of Leeds fans doing the same at Scarborough - I would feel a bit intimidated, and not appraoch them to keep the language down. It would what I'd like to do - but who attempts to tackle a group of beered up "twenty somethings" these days? Moral standards are slipping - next there will be a comment that the loutish behaviour at Southampton Central was justified beacause "the pigs" (excuse my colloqialism) asked for it! It's all fair in the laddish behaviour stakes - but honestly I look back at some of the things I have done over the years and cringe. Experience tells you that you will eventually stop being a ***t, and learn to respect others! May Deano rest in peace - rather than turning in his grave.
StuRomseySaint Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 It was not 20 somethings.... the ages were from 18 to 50's Fair play to them, gutted I couldnt make it, sounds like they had a top day.
Thedelldays Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 how does the pompey fan on a string song go exactly..i know the gist but not all the words...
latter day saint Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 how dare those 100 or so Saints fans have a drink & a sing-song to celebrate the life of a fellow fan who shared the same passion as them! i hope they all hang there heads in shame at enjoying there day out.if i had my white glove at hand i would slap them round the face with it !!

latter day saint Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 That'll be the comedy 'extra large' glove then? maybe i could borrow one of those large foam hand/glove things from one of the negative posters above as they seem just the sort to have one
Rattlehead Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 how does the pompey fan on a string song go exactly..i know the gist but not all the words... When I was just a little boy My Grandad bought me a brand new toy A pompey fan on a string He told me to kick his f*cking head in His f*cking head in His f*cking head in He told me to kick his f*cking head in Makes you proud to be a Saint doesn't it?
RonManager Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 maybe i could borrow one of those large foam hand/glove things from one of the negative posters above as they seem just the sort to have one Yeah, Kenny Everett stylee - I used to work in the Duke of Cornwall on Weymouth quay back along and we put up with Brummies and Bristolians being a bit boisterous every day in the summer - no problem. Anyway, they still haven't answered ny question -it can't be considered a 5 star ****up unless at least 1 person ends up fully clothed in the quay!!
eurosaint Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Unfortunatly this snobbery is nothing new at St.Marys. Unless you get a seat in the Northam you constantly get snide remarks, "sit down" "do you mind not yelling in my ear" "that language is not necessary" and the best one i had in the chapel a few yaers back was a toff looking chap reading his paper and tutting when we jumped up after a goal cause we interupted his reading. This was once a working mans sport where you go to have a knees up and a good time with your mates. Your opinions are shocking to hear, a bunch of lads having a memorial **** up and getting slightly loud , and to make it even worse they were wearing those horrible football shirts , how embarrasing. have a ****ing word with yourself and finish off that prawn sandwich Christ, you don't even get that in the Kingsland !! I know that the football was crap last year but 'reading his paper' ???? Great first post, eh ??

Is this the one to the tune of Chuck Berry's 'My Ding-A-Ling'? BTW I remember (just) a brilliant day out in Weymouth for a pre-season friendly that involved a massive kickabout on the pitch at half time. If anyone else was there, was the match as part payment for Andy Townsend?

BTW I remember (just) a brilliant day out in Weymouth for a pre-season friendly that involved a massive kickabout on the pitch at half time. If anyone else was there, was the match as part payment for Andy Townsend? Remember that match at their old ground very well, something like 200 a side at half time with a couple of balls and a tennis ball being used. It was August 1986. I can't imagine what the do-gooders and wakners would say about such disgraceful behaviour:rolleyes: This was the game that Townsend broke his leg in!!!!!! May have been linked to the Townsend transfer, but not sure as Townsend came to us in January 1985.

St Steve Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Why are they saddos? They were having a laugh and Saints fans as well. Hope they all had a good time. Sounds a bit loutish to me, drinking, singing songs. I bet they even had those common looking replica shirts and white three quarter length tracksuit bottoms. I reckon some even took off their tops off and went bare chested when they knew full well for the sake of others eyes they shouldnt have. It must have been an embarassing site and I bet parents were covering their childrens ears and eyes as they hurried them away. Must have really lowered the tone of the area. What ever next.
Puddings and Monkeys Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 agreed what a bunch of saddos probably from shirley warren You weren't even there and you know nothing about it and what it was all about. You have shown yourself up to be a total f u c k w i t. The club can do without retards like you.

Thedelldays Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 You really should change your name to Dull Days. if it was a group of pompey fans we would be calling them a bunch of pikey ****s...and we would be right
spain saint Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 what behaviour.. i asked you before but you seem to NOT BOTHER... please quote this "behaviour"... thanks Sorry, didn't see the other time you asked me! I however will now trawl through the other hundred threads to pick examples just because you asked so nicely!
TheSaint75 Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Fair play for remembering a mate by having a good lash up in the sun, having a bit of a sing song, even a ruck with a scouser is all fine......but that song about a fan on a string is real cringe-worthy even in SMS, on a beach with kiddies around is a bit too much IMO?
