must admit, i went to glastonbury a few years ago, and really didn’t get what all the fuss was about. came home on the saturday morning

full of pretentious ****s and oiks trying to be working class or hippies. found it all very false to be honest. and of course, the real hippies can no longer afford to go at £125 a ticket

if it was all about art etc..then I wish BBC1 would show a more varied footage..

You and me both. Incidentally the 'worlds strongest woman' act that I was dragged on stage for WAS on BBC, so they do cover some other acts, tho disappointed that nothing from the cabaret tent shown on tv (or at least the iPlayer coverage I checked). Mark Thomas was as inspirational as always the act on before him had the whole tent crying with laughter.

am i right that you went then baj..?

if so, how do you get tickets, where did you stay, etc...give us the low down

Yes, my 3rd glasto this year. We camped in one of the fields close to 'the action' but far enough away to get sleep. Applied for tickets through glastonbury website.

I would say to anyone planning on going, for gods sake dont just go and see bands, if you do you will probably have a pretty lousy time and wonder what the fuss was all about, theres plenty of maps and signs pointing you away from the music and to where the really interesting stuff is.

Tickets were £175, which sounds like a lot, but consider that's 3 days of bands (or whatever you want to do) and when you break it down its peanuts. Camping is an issue, you'll always find somewhere to camp, however, how early/lucky you are depends on whether you get where you WANT to camp or not.

Trouble? lol. If everyone took home the attitude they have at glasto then we'd live in a much safer and kinda society, peace n love, man.

I had a bird on my shoulders at the Killers on Friday at Hyde Park ... what's wrong with that?

Don't think I'd be too chuffed if you pushed her off ...

What way round was she facing ???

Also i think Springsteen is a fantastic act to have at a festival such as Glasto, something a bit different as usually you just have the same old headliners at every festival. Plus he has been on top for years and years and always puts on a fantastic show. Don't get me wrong i don't really like his music as such but have watched a live performance and he was out of this world - - - Although i was not at Glasto so cannot comment, he sounded good though.

Also those that were saying madness were ****, i thought they were brilliant. They were never a strong voiced band but there music always gets crowds jumping.

Mini festival atmosphere as there were a few bands on the Friday and another 2 days of bands - so it was bloody brilliant! The Killers are superb live, will definitely be seeing them again!

I've seen them twice, think they are fantastic. Seriously thought about going on Friday (or at the Albert Hall in July), but only saw them last in February so felt it was a bit soon. Also spent loads at the IOW festival a couple of weeks ago.

Seriously hoping they are at the IOW next year.

Who else played Friday in the end by the way? They kept saying they were going to announce more acts, but didn't see anything apart from the Kooks. The supporting line up looked far better on Saturday and Sunday.

Ahh, no I can't - I'm doing the 3 peaks challenge then. Will probably be starting to climb Snowdon when that starts! Shame, maybe they could move to the weekend after for me as I'm free then!

Leaving Ben Nevis til last? That's gonna hurt...

Bell end. was a superb gig, as was springsteen last night.

Exsqueeze me for having an opinion. I personally think the Killers are the most over-rated, over-hyped band in recent memory.

As for Springsteen, I think that says it all really... Self-indulgent mulch.

Here you go ...

Friday 26th June:

Chew Lips 16:00 - 16:35

Passion Pit 16:55 - 17:35

Howling Bells 17:55 - 18:40

The Kooks 19:05 - 20:05

The Killers 20:45 - 22:15

As we didn't leave the pub until 6 (midday start and I still managed to dial in to a conference call at 2:30pm!!!!), we only saw the Kooks and Killers, but was still very very good.

I have never had the slightest interest in actually going to Glastonbury before, I hate camping, hate mud, hate those hippy crusty folk with their hair in skanky dreads. Plus the thought of taking a dump in those portaloo things isn’t great. In fact on paper Glastonbury has always been a massive no no for me.

However I love music and am getting more and more into bands. The past few years watching Glastonbury footage on BBC3 or online has got me into a few different bands.

So this year (despite so many reasons for me not to go) I decided to go there and actually see what the fuss is all about.

Although the cost of a ticket doesn’t appear cheap to many who have not been before, as Baj says, when you look at what you get for it, it is actually great value.

I’m not so sure I totally agree with Baj about it being an arts festival. Although technically it is called an arts festival, I think the majority are still there for the music, but totally agree there is a lot more than music there to see and do if you want too. The one thing I didn’t do was have a look at a lot of the other stuff there, but personally I went for music so I had plenty to do as it was.

I thought the place was fantastic, the size of the site was awesome, whilst some of the footage on TV does show it to be massive, you really do have to be there to realise just how big it all is!!!

There are a few things I’d do differently next time, but yes I will go again. As for the music, I like the fact you get to see bands you wouldn’t usually see. For example on Saturday I thought the Gaslight Anthem were good, but I’d never heard of them before. I mainly wanted to see Bloc Party, yet my band of the weekend was White Lies who I also hadn’t really heard of, they were excellent.

Sunday I sat and watched Enter Shikari, another band I didn’t know. They were not what I expected at all and even having heard them I can’t say I’d go out and buy their stuff, but, I enjoyed watching them as they were something a bit different.

Overall, I found it a great experience and I will be going again next year. Thankfully there weren’t as many hippies as I’d expected there to be either, although maybe they were in their own little area 

Didn’t see any trouble there either, although I understand a few pillows and duvets were pinched from tents, but the best thing to do is not take anything fancy like that, just rough it with an old sleeping bag and use the rest of your stuff as a pillow.

I watched them too, they weren't too good tbh. They are one of my favourite bands but they disappointed me a bit with that set. Look up their Radio 1's Big Weekend set on YouTube if you want to see them in full swing, that's what they are usually like live. Also, the f*ckers put their set back 35 minutes so naturally I arrive at the stage at 3.40 to find them nearly at the end of their set! Needless to say I was rather p*ssed off.

Glastonbury is a great experience, and most of the people that sat here at their computers all weekend posting about how sh*t it looked on the telly really missed out on something that will stay with us Glastonbury goers for the rest of our lives! So boo to you!

Also, I find it astounding that some of you saw the Killers/the Kooks ahead of acts like I saw over the weekend like Madness, Blur, The Specials, The Maccabees, Bloc Party, Bruce Springsteen, The Rakes, Kasabian, Lily Allen and Pete Doherty.

The Big Pink were a highlight for me.

I watched them, their sound was a bit 'epic' for a tent I thought. They were alright though, and the fact that everyone cleared off afterwards meant I got to be on the barrier, centre stage for Esser afterwards (who was great)!
