Some people bastardise even our slang so it is possible that Dustbin Lid could be interpreted in a different way to the one intended.

In my book the one complaining about such a thing is the one causing a problem.

 

There can be no doubt about the way GM intended it.

Flies! I 've been playing golf in 90 degree's today and the buggars were all over me.

 

I've had minor skirmishes with GM on the old forum, but have to say that many times he can be on the nail so in this case I have to reserve judgement. Although I hope he is wrong and eats even more humble pie, don't bet against it.

In all sincerity, I am very happy that it appears the the Pinnacle bid will go through following their acceptance of the Football League's position.

 

I have had a number, a large number, of instances of being wrong in my life, largely due to the large size of my mouth and the small size of my brain, but, given my deep love for Southampton Football Club, my passion, on this occasion, swamped my judgement.

 

That judgement seems to have been wrong and Mr. Fialka and his North London friends appear to have access to the £14M that will save our club, together with an investment plan that will help put the club back in the Premiership.

 

I apologise, unreservedly to Mr. Lynam and Mr. Fialka for the abuse that I have posted and hope that by supporting the club when they take over, I will be able to make amends.

 

Finally, I was made aware that I called Mr. Fialka a "dustbin lid". This deeply upset one of our posters who is married to a black lady and has mixed race children. He believes that that comment makes me the worst type of racist, one that didn't know he was one. I am very sorry to him and to Mr. Fialka if they found the term offensive and racist. Please forgive me in the future for any words I use that also rhyme with offensive terms.

 

I hope that in the spirit of reconciliation, all those that thought Mr. Fialka and Mr. Lynam were "potless" join me in apologising....

 

GM, I'm impressed. Well done.

GM and not because of what he believes or says, he like all of us is fully entitled to his opinion what with being a most evilly minded liberal and all, but because of the childish, unprofessional and downright pathetic way he goes about it, who knows he could be completely correct.

Thing is, by being 'secretive' about things, it naturally leads to suspician... we can be naturally cynical given the fake bids of previous periods. The problem is that we as fans do not ahve access or any control in deciding aboutthe bids - The concerns stems from this fact - It may be that The Pinnacle bid is teh BEST for saints, but without knowing details of this or the swiss or other bids how do we know that the others might not be better, ust got to the table too late? This is the problem with admin - Fry will not be interested in the best bid for SFC or its future, just getting someone to sign on the line to satisfy the creditors... I was very positive towards pinnacle at first but had that confidence erroded over this -10 points thing - it simply smacked of stalling to me as it would not have been in the spirit of the regulations or the game had we pursued it. Now we have alternatives who seem serious and its such a shame that teh one group that has most to gain or lose form all this ...the fans... have absolutely no say in who will be our next owner... The way of the world, but given the place clubs have in fans hearts does not seem right somehow...

LOL, what a classic thread, I'm not sure what's funnier... all the posters thanking GM for his sincere apology or the fact the head of a multi-million pound consortium in the middle of a delayed takeover replies and demands he is insulted face-to-face.

I agree.

 

A lot of the speculation and extreme mouthing off on here, including my own, stems from our complete lack of knowledge of or control over a situation that affects something that we, foolishly or otherwise, care about deeply.

So are we supposed to believe that when GM says "in all sincerity" that is not what he means at all? In fact he's not being sincere but is actually taking the p!ss? If that were to be the case then I'd advise anyone dealing with this "businessman" to understand that his word is definitely not his bond. Unless, of course, he really is being sincere but ISTM that nobody can take him seriously.

 

Now I normall take what people say at face value and, going by some of the cynisism around here, that's obviously a failing of mine in some eyes but if it's a sign of how business is conducted these days then no wonder the country is in the sh!t.

I do like a slice of Humble Pie - it's the sceptic's (just) dessert.

 

I have my plate and fork ready, but I'll wait until I've digested the main before I tuck in, if that's ok? ;-)

 

Also, as a (admittedly, lapsed) Jew, I do not find the term 'dustbin lid' offensive. Ever so slightly derogatory yes, but not offensive.

 

Problem is, all the really nasty words start out as mild insults and build with venom over time and usage; however I think it is best to be retrospective and as informed as possible as to what is and isn't an aggressive, offensive insult.

LOL. I would imagine then that you really do believe a footballer is 'over the moon' when the score a goal.

 

Anyone with half a brain cell could see GM was taking the pi ss (which is obv why Tony Lying took it seriously.....)

To be honest I did think it a bit odd given his reputation for having a big gob and head but the words used at the beginning made me think it might just be what he really thought. From what you say he's just a lying ***t that can't be believed whatever he utters.

 

FWIW I do take most things uttered with a pinch of salt but if someone tells me something "sincerely" then what should I think?

 

Anyway, it must be interesting to go through life not believing a word that's said to you. Did you believe your Mum when she told you who your Dad was?

Even at this late hour in the saga there is no humble pie on the table, not even in the oven!.........I fear there may be many twists and turns before this buyout comes to fruition and I just hope that whoever wins (assuming someone will actually buy the club).......has been doing some serious ground work behind the scenes to get the whole thing up and running quickly......I fear all this procrastination is having a damaging effect on the chances of doing anything next season.......maybe I'm worrying too much but the longer it strings out the less positive I am of a really good outcome
