Looks like there were a few that don't appreciate the wonderful and free life they lead thanks to armed forces, not just here, but across the world.

There are some groups that just thrive on hatred.

Ungrateful Mongs

You are a paid professional not a conscript. Why do you want our thanks?

Were you one of those mongs?

Such a brave boy behind your keyboard.

I'm in South Brum, just a short drive from you. If you fell so strongly about it, give me your number via PM and we'll meet up and discuss it, be nice to see how pithy you are when confronted face to face.

Yeah, even VFTT could see that!

Fair play to all forces people, especially their families who are often forgotten when their loved ones are away doing their bit. The partners are heroes too in my book. I used to hate it when my old man was away, don't know how Mum coped with five kids to keep in line.

Well said hamster, don't forget the families left behind as well, often forgotten. Barney, I was in the army 24 years, others have posted on here who I was replying to, enough said.

I would happily go on to say, anyone who walks into the careers office and joins the armed forces in 2009 is a complete mug

'It's not all work work work'.

Anyone remember that army recruitment advert, I think from the 80's.

Why?

in my time in (can only speak from my experience) it has changed ever so much....too much 'PCness' too much leftyness. you go and do your thing and get shafted royally as in no more work hard, play hard, it is now (this is in my time) work hard, then work harder...

the gov are asking us to do more than we have sice WW2 with the smallest armed forces in history...they want us to fight, go on patrol and then cut cut cut ships, subs, tanks, planes then they want you to go for more..

some would (and they would be right) say that it is your job.. fair comment...but after spending a decade in the forces and watch what was once a great (and powerful navy) be stripped bare to something that resembles a rusting junkyard that struggles to get a single unit to sea..

I went in to get some new footware as my soles were coming away..and I was told to sort mine out with masking tape...MASKING TAPE FFS

i could go on and on but IMO anyone joining today has my deepest sympathy...

no doubt many will say it is your job but you will know what I am on about..

If someone sent you a couple of bits of cardboard cut into insole shapes that you could combine with the masking tape for a more professional repair job, would you be happier then?

I was in logistics so footwear was not an issue with me. I also had access to lots of masking tape but not for footwear repairs  I must agree though more is expected of our forces with less money, manpower and equipment but there are some still willing to serve our proud forces. Best of luck to them.
