SaintBobby Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 Assuming the worst happens, what options are there for reforming in the lower leagues?
The Worm Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 didnt the people who run the Blue Square Premiership say we could restart there if we played at St Marys?
Webby Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 didnt the people who run the Blue Square Premiership say we could restart there if we played at St Marys? Oh man! We haven't been able to do that for 2 seasons now.
SaintBobby Posted 26 June, 2009 Author Posted 26 June, 2009 My fear is that we are very, very close to the season starting. But with a fan base that would dwarf any in the rest of non-league football, perhaps an exception would be made. Not sure of viability of retaining St.Marys in such circumstances though.
Norm Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 Assuming the worst happens, what options are there for reforming in the lower leagues? How long have you been this depressed? Sorry, but every post you write is doom and gloom and disaster. Cheer up! It's stopped raining and it's Friday:D
Saints foreva Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 It wont be the same, it wont be the club i love.
The9 Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 didnt the people who run the Blue Square Premiership say we could restart there if we played at St Marys? There were initial inquiries made towards finding out whether it might be a possibility if Saints weren't able to take their place in the Football League. Only the people who made those inquiries will know - and I'm pretty sure any AFC Southampton-style team would have to start where all non-League teams start, around tier 5 of the pyramid. At that level there won't be much in the way of fan problems - FC United and AFC Wimbledon both began in feeder leagues at non-league step 4 at very best. I'm pretty sure it's not a possibility at the kind of notice required in order to factor a currently non-existent team into a League which publishes its fixtures in 7 days time, coinciding with the date on which we'll know whether we have any buyers or not. So that would leave maybe a couple of hours. If we don't start in League One this season we're not starting anywhere.
SaintBobby Posted 26 June, 2009 Author Posted 26 June, 2009 How long have you been this depressed? Sorry, but every post you write is doom and gloom and disaster. Cheer up! It's stopped raining and it's Friday:D I thought Pinnacle would complete the deal. Now I think it's down to the Swiss, and a mesuarble chance (25%?) that the club folds next week.
docker-p Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 If the worse happens I suggest £1000 per share from all who can, and we start again as Southampton 1885. Red and white stripes is a given.

Tac-tics Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 Dear Sirs, I am writing regarding the vacant posistion of AFC Southampton manager/head coach. I have two FA qualifications and pending to sit the UEFA B license. The club is very close to my heart but am able to divide head and heart. I also have grave experiance working with Hayling United Under 6's,7's and 8's which will boad well regarding Southampton glourious history and tradition of employing youth. I also have won numerous competitions throught out my career which I started in 2001. This would be a great challenge one I would thrieve on the pressure and expectation. Previous honours: Premier League Winnerss: 2001/2002,2002/2003,2003/2004,2004/2005,2005/2006,2006/2007,2007,2008,2009 FA Cup Winners: 2002/2003,2004/2005,2005/2006,2007/2008,2008/2009 Carling Cup Winners: 2005/2006,2007/2008,2008/2009 Uefa Cup: n/a Uefa Champions League: 2002/2003,2006/2007,2007/2008,2008/2009 World Cup: 2006 Many Thanks Tac-tics

Count me in. I know a lot will say "it's not the same" and that's fair enough, but if only a small % of the fanbase wanted to re-form, it's viable.
derry Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 Be cheaper to buy Salisbury or Eastleigh and move to St Mary's. The Stadium could be self sustaining with concerts, corporate facilities etc.
SaintBobby Posted 26 June, 2009 Author Posted 26 June, 2009 Be cheaper to buy Salisbury or Eastleigh and move to St Mary's. The Stadium could be self sustaining with concerts, corporate facilities etc. really? with an attendance of say 6,000 ? For 23 football matches per annum?
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 really? with an attendance of say 6,000 ? For 23 football matches per annum? It's also a big office block and car park.
SaintBobby Posted 26 June, 2009 Author Posted 26 June, 2009 It's also a big office block and car park. We're sorted then.
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 We're sorted then. I've chosen my office already.
Thedelldays Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 no thanks...will not be saints i grew up with.... would rather be a football fan than an AFC southampton fan
SW5 SAINT Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 Why all this talk about AFC Southampton, if Saints have been liquidated surely the title Southampton FC is available?
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 no thanks...will not be saints i grew up with.... would rather be a football fan than an AFC southampton fan Although many would feel like this, honestly, what else would you do on a Saturday? The team would still be representing Southampton.

There, we would hope that your heart would very much rule your head and that we could resume our derbies in the Blue Square League in a couple of years time. Yours sincerely St_Tel49 pp M. SET Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 Step 7 would be the entry point, problem being wessex league do not allow groundsharing, so the club would need to be able to afford the rent for st marys.

That's not the wording on the Wessex League site - see rule 2.1 http://www.wessexleague.co.uk/rules2.htm

SET Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 That's not the wording on the Wessex League site - see rule 2.1 http://www.wessexleague.co.uk/rules2.htm well when we approached them a few months ago it was explained that groundsharing is only permitted when in place for a year before promotion/relegation to their league.
Badger Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 Please not AFC, its so crap. Southampton St Marys, or Southampton 1885, or 1885 Southampton would be better. The St Marys option gets my vote.

Imagine yourself singing it, St. Mary's sounds better in my head. But what about the 'Even Newer Saints than the New Saints FC' ?
Eyes k8 Posted 26 June, 2009 Posted 26 June, 2009 I already have a non-League team too, it was the last lot I supported in the Football League that went bankrupt. Jonah, Throw him in the Solent and the club survives. He'll come willingly. It's the least he can do.

SaintBobby Posted 27 June, 2009 Author Posted 27 June, 2009 whats wong with the name Southampton? Fair point. Just don't know if there are any rules on this - e.g. why couldn't AFC Wimbledon just be Wimbledon? Why did Fiorentina re-form as Fiorenta Viola?
sotongomad76 Posted 27 June, 2009 Posted 27 June, 2009 Fair point. Just don't know if there are any rules on this - e.g. why couldn't AFC Wimbledon just be Wimbledon? Why did Fiorentina re-form as Fiorenta Viola? Think the Italian league rules had something to do with the latter, and after a while they could change their name back- I'm not sure though.
ooohTerryHurlock Posted 27 June, 2009 Posted 27 June, 2009 Do we know where the council are at with a plan B to buy the stadium????
SaintBobby Posted 27 June, 2009 Author Posted 27 June, 2009 lets just stick to plan a Plan A looking better than 24 hours ago....
Fan The Flames Posted 27 June, 2009 Posted 27 June, 2009 The rules changed recently that a reformed club has to go down at least two divisions, they do not have to start at at least step 5 as before. The BS Prem were approached and said they would welcome us into their league. I was chatting to a mate who is a big non-league fan and he is of the opinion that the BS Prem would just have an extra team for the season, as it would raise they profile and not many chairman would turn down the opportunity of the good gate receipts. AFC Wimbledon stands for A Fans Club I think. Weren't Middlesbrough Middlesbrough 1986 for a season.
Saint_Jonny Posted 27 June, 2009 Posted 27 June, 2009 the worst football stadium in english football on a thursday NIGHT. This sucks. Its not even a football stadium ffs.

Fan The Flames Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 I posted in the wrong thread try and guess where that should have ended up... The Brighton away game by any chance. No its not a stadium, but it is an illustration of what can happen when the wrong people get involved in running a football club. A timely reminder I think.
SaintRobbie Posted 28 June, 2009 Posted 28 June, 2009 Assuming the worst happens, what options are there for reforming in the lower leagues? And the prize for most unnecessary thread goes to...
