Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 26 June, 2009 Share Posted 26 June, 2009 Looks like the last match against Essex will be live on Sky on Sunday. Although Sky Live still have their match as 'TBC', the start of the Hants match has been set at 14.40, the usual 10 minute Sky delay.

chrisobee Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 I think I'm right in saying that in order to qualify we: 1) Need to win ( unlikely) 2) Need Middx to beat Sussex (Highly unlikely) 3) Then have a better NRR than Sussex ? In other words we are long odds against to qualify!

Started well Essex 42-3 - we are 1.40 in play (or 2/5 in old odds to win) and Middlesex are 2.40 (or 11/8) to win against Sussex therefore we are about 3.4 (or just under 5/2) to qualify. So in with a shout but need a favour from Middlesex

I may be wrong, but I think if we win we would at the very least qualify as one of the best third place teams....so I think that whoever wins this game will definately go through. I may be wrong on this but I don't think so.

Evil Monkey Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 25 runs off 1 Tremlett over has really ****ed up an otherwise brilliant bowling/fielding performance from the whole side. Hope we can chase 150, but I have a nagging feeling that we will come up short.
KK the 2nd Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 The in play odds at the break Essex 3.75 (or 11/4) and Hants 1.36 (or 4/11). So still fancied to go through. Early scare there though ...!!

Um Bongo Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 Well we win and go through to the Quarter Finals. Win by 6 wickets. Only Essex's 6th defeat in 5 years in the 20/20 game at their home ground. Not too shabby.
wadesmith Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 Quarter Final. Away to Northants. Possibly the weakest of the 3 group winners. Could have been worse.
chrisobee Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 Sky said The winner of the game will go through. Essex now 32-3 after 8.1 overs. Yes, I realised after posting that with 3 groups there would be 2 places still to fill so I checked and saw that as long as we won we would be one of the 3rd placed teams to qualify. I agree our draw is as good as we could expect, I was expecting us to get Lancs away!
stevegrant Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 Finishing third in the group also means we'll be in Division One of the new P20 competition next season. Might as well lump all your money on Essex to win Division Two by a country mile...

I think despite some inconsistency we did well to qualify from what was probably the toughest group as Essex finishing 4th and Middx bottom tends to confirm. saint_stevo Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 Ervine made me eat my words. As he took the ball i nudged my mate and said, "this bloke is so outa form he may as well bowl under arm". Great call
NI76 Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 Putting Tahir in at Number 4 was a bit of a worry! Not only was it a bit of a worry it was possibly the most bizarre decision in 25 years of watching Hampshire that I have ever seen. Cork or Tremlett I could maybe understand (but not agree with) but Tahir, absolutely unreal. Still, fantastic win and a great perfromance by Eddie (Ervine). Northants is the best draw we could have got (and a nice short trip). Looking forward to next Sunday now, hope the long trip is worth it.
chrisobee Posted 28 June, 2009 Share Posted 28 June, 2009 Well I guess in 20/20 always expected the unexpected. However, I am really, really curious as to why Tahir came in at 4, the only ( stupid) reason I can think of was that everyone else had gone for a comfort break !! But maybe I'll have an even more stupid reason by tomorrow

Great call Ervine seems to be one of those players whether he is batting or bowling he is either brilliant or useless, no middle ground! Still he would be in my team every time. I thought it was very interesting in the last 2 games that when it was going a bit "Pete Tong" Dimi comes to the crease and and an aura of calm and sensibility seemed to prevail. Ah yes, I guess that makes a degree of sense. I think Dimi is the sort of player who rarely gets flustered and thus ideal in a pressure situation. In fact I think the only time he gets a bit annoyed is when the fielding gets sloppy ! Cetainly in one day cricket I'd say he is the one player we miss most when he doesn't play. Leicestersaint Posted 29 June, 2009 Share Posted 29 June, 2009 It was great to see a whole Hampshire match. i thought we did very well - except for that horrendous over by Tremlett! The expected batting collapse failed to materialise and we eased home. Well done Hants - now please try to win in the trophy and get some consistent form going in the championship!
