Michelle Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 I can still see it. Are you searching for Soton to Carlisle? You need to book the two 'legs' seperately. i.e. Book Soton to London, and then London Euston to Carlisle. Don't panic, picked it up after just searching for that part. Flights are no-go, nearly £100 a pop now, and why bother driving when it'll take about the same time as the train, and cost about the same. This is gonna be carnage. I like it. I like it a lot.
Michelle Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 I have booked four places on the train at £28 each return from Euston by booking two single journeys which work out cheaper, just hope they dont now chanage the date of the match and getting the 1752 train from Carlisle back to Euston so no overnighter. That's exactly what I've got, £28 return for the London to Carlisle leg, and then £20.35 return for So'ton to London, all on Network Railcard. Suppose I'd better go renew mine now!
ladysaint Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Michelle if you get the 4 for 2 from Soton to Euston including tube you can then get it for £17.50.
Michelle Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 Michelle if you get the 4 for 2 from Soton to Euston including tube you can then get it for £17.50. Problem is, there's only the two of us travelling!
saints_is_the_south Posted 13 July, 2009 Author Posted 13 July, 2009 Problem is, there's only the two of us travelling! 3 of us going up, could always sort something out of the station between us all!
stevegrant Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 I am now also booked on that one - was going to stay overnight but will be much cheaper to do a day-trip. Think I'll stay at a mate's in London on the Friday night so I don't have to get up too early...
Michelle Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 (edited) 3 of us going up, could always sort something out of the station between us all! Sounds like a plan. I'm about to book them now. Thinking if I book the 4 for 2, and you book the single one, and we'll split it 5 ways? How much is that gonna be? You then send me the payment I need, I'm gonna get them in the post so as soon as I've got them I'll send the two over to you? How's that sound? Edited 13 July, 2009 by Michelle
Michelle Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 I predict an exciting train journey ahead. Bring on the vodka. Me thinks I'm going to find it a bit difficult to stick to the 10:00 rule on this one... oh dear.
Dan Posted 13 July, 2009 Posted 13 July, 2009 2 of us going from Southampton and meeting a few more at Euston, if anyone is looking to get 4 for 2 to London. Let me know, cheers.

Defo a bump here lads, more than happy as long as you are on the same train back as we will meet you back at euston and then head back to Waterloo get 4 tins for way back  Southampton Central or Parkway Not overally bothered.

TopGun Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 I was at Carlisle station yesterday. I was admiring the ornate ironwork in the roof. Make sure you have a look.
Michelle Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Tickets have arrived. Now to find somewhere safe to keep them for the next couple of months!
bungle Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 By the way, I hope everyone books their train tickets via the train company itself (you can book London to Carlisle via SW Trains as well!), rather than using thetrainline.com or raileasy.co.uk ?? Absolutely no booking or postage fees if you go with train company direct.
stevegrant Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Yep, booked direct with Virgin, collected my tickets from the machine at Southampton Central when I got back from work last night
ianthesaint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 +1. 6am train to Waterloo for me + 2 others, already got Euston to Carlisle tickets but more than happy to do a group save with you guys from Southampton to Waterloo on the day! Absolutely no booking or postage fees if you go with train company direct. I booked online and it cost me £1.00 postage for the tickets. See now that the £14 each way offer has gone and its now up to £19 each way if anyone else is thinking of going.
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 July, 2009 Author Posted 14 July, 2009 You getting train from central mate? suits us, meet you at central at about 5.45  Sounds good to me, we'll be the ones with the crates of carling in our hands!! No postage fee for me either, booked direct through Virgin.
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 July, 2009 Author Posted 14 July, 2009 So how many are there getting the 6am train from Soton Central to Waterloo & buying their tickets on the day there?. I'm 1 + 2, ianthesaint & dan also appear to have a couple, hopefully we can club enough together to do 2 or 3 lots of 2 for 4 deals. As ianthesaint posts above, meet at Central about 5.45 and we can go from there!
ladysaint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Five of us so will need 3 more to get the 4 for 2 to Euston.
bungle Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 I booked online and it cost me £1.00 postage for the tickets. See now that the £14 each way offer has gone and its now up to £19 each way if anyone else is thinking of going. Waste of £1.
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 July, 2009 Author Posted 14 July, 2009 (edited) Five of us so will need 3 more to get the 4 for 2 to Euston. Well there's me + 2 so thats 8. ianthesaint + ? & dan + 1. I've just had a look on national rail, 4 of us going all with a railcard each brings it out at £17.20 each including our tube ticket. PS If you guys are happy to do this, then we could also all do it for Charlton & the other London away days we have this season. Edited 14 July, 2009 by saints_is_the_south
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 July, 2009 Author Posted 14 July, 2009 Got my train tickets today in the post. This is probably a stupid question, but i've got 4 little cards, 2 of them say London Euston to Carlisle & Carlisle to London Euston on, the other says Carlisle to & from London Terminals. Does that mean they can be used as a ticket to get back to Waterloo?
ladysaint Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 I was wondering that as well as received our tickets also today. According to Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_station_group so I suppose it covers Zone 1, somebody correct me if I am wrong as it would then save getting an underground ticket included in the travel from Soton/London.

saints_is_the_south Posted 14 July, 2009 Author Posted 14 July, 2009 No. You'll need a separate underground ticket. Thought so, no harm in checking though!
Michelle Posted 14 July, 2009 Posted 14 July, 2009 Tickets always say London Terminals. The one that specifically says London Euston is your seat reservation details, not your actual ticket for travel, but you do have to keep them both together. Even my Southampton to London says London Terminals, and that's all I've ever had when travelling to London, never actually ever had one that's been specific to Waterloo.
IFHP Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 Five of us so will need 3 more to get the 4 for 2 to Euston. Jan, 3 off us going from parkway around 6:22 i think - its the 8:30 from Euston. If its any good?
ladysaint Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 Keith have you got your Euston to Carlisle tickets yet? I will speak to you when I see you next think we will get on at Central but may change to Parkway as I could drive and park up there for the day if its cheap enough.
Kaiser Soze Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 I'm on the train as well as quite a few others. Carnage springs to mind.
bungle Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 I'm on the train as well as quite a few others. Carnage springs to mind. There will be if you're on it! Does that mean you are on the 0645 (there or there abouts) from Swindon?
This Charming Man Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 I'm on the train as well as quite a few others. Carnage springs to mind. I think we should start taking bets on what station you get thrown off at on the way back. I'm going for the first stop after leaving Carlisle...
Kaiser Soze Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 There will be if you're on it! Does that mean you are on the 0645 (there or there abouts) from Swindon? 6.40 mate, I'll be there with a crate of Stella in hand.
bungle Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 6.40 mate, I'll be there with a crate of Stella in hand. See you on that train as well, then!
ladysaint Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 A reincarnation of the 70's/80's football special then
Michelle Posted 15 July, 2009 Posted 15 July, 2009 I'm on the train as well as quite a few others. Carnage springs to mind. Oh my... now we're in trouble!

Just the 2 of us, and meeting others at Euston.
saints_is_the_south Posted 16 July, 2009 Author Posted 16 July, 2009 Me and Iainthesaint are travelling with each other. Just the 2 of us, and meeting others at Euston. Ah ok! So that's 10 of us, just need 2 more from Soton Central at 6 to get 3 of the 4 for 2 deals.
ladysaint Posted 19 July, 2009 Posted 19 July, 2009 If anyone has a spare train ticket to Carlisle let me know I tried to get some more but the cost has esclated now to £28 each way from Euston.

Wilko Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 I would just like to put on record how excited I am about this trip.
Michelle Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 I would just like to put on record how excited I am about this trip. Me too. I've only ever done London games or Pompey on the train for footy, so this is gonna be an experience and a half.
Kaiser Soze Posted 7 August, 2009 Posted 7 August, 2009 Me too. I've only ever done London games or Pompey on the train for footy, so this is gonna be an experience and a half. It will be with me on board.
