Mr_Red Posted 25 June, 2009 Share Posted 25 June, 2009 There are 4 pretty good ones on this thread. Stewart Lee??? Are you actually being serious? If I had any sway at all I'd start a thread with a link to his 'funniest' performance and have a poll titled 'Did you laugh at any point during this crap?' Perhaps he has been funny and now isn't, I haven't watched much - I can only go by his 'comedy vehicle' show on BBC2 which included the worst clips I have ever witnessed. I'd go so far to say I laughed a lot more the day Diana died. See. I know funny. Has anyone said Harry Hill yet? I don't have a singular favourite I'm afraid. But he is funny. bridge too far Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 Bill Bailey Stewart Lee Ross Noble would be my top 3. But I have a very soft spot for Ardal O'Hanlon Oh and a special mensh for Lee Evans. One night Mr TF was watching TV in bed and I was trying to sleep when Lee Evans was on. He did his 'romantic bath' routine and - even though I wasn't watching - I was in hysterics just listening. Nineteen Canteen Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 My favourite has to be Bill Bailey. Can't believe he hasn't even been mentioned yet. If anyone has seen his Tinselworm show, the part where he talks about having the Pink Panther tune as the national anthem, at the opening ceremony of the olympics, absolutely had me in stitches. The whole DVD is brilliant, as is Part Troll and his appearances on QI and NMTB. Also like Peter Kay, Franky Boyle, Jason Manford and Jimmy Carr. Type "Franky Boyle Diana" into youtube and watch the Mock The Week clip that comes up. As for the ones I can't stand: Alan Carr - Just so irritatingly camp it gets under my skin and they don't make water hot enough to get it off. Russell Brand - It seems a lot of women find him "funny" when what they really have in mind is some bizarre sexual fantasy. The guy is a brainless attention seeking f**kwit. Michael McIntyre - I just don't see the attraction. Some of his material is passable, but is delivery is just dreadful. Always laughing and grinning smugly at his own jokes and making a big deal out of things which just aren't funny. Jo Brand - Complete one trick pony. Have to agree with Bill Bailey, saw him live in London last Christmas doing the last shows of Tinselworm and was brilliant, unique and very funny. One of the best bits was his suggestion about joggers and people bothering him in the street. Vic Reeves and Eddie Izzard are also required viewing. Izzard's Death Star Canteen is brilliant and he was doing the animals thing long before Gervais. Who is Mike Osman?
Nineteen Canteen Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 Oh btw not surprised not many are keen on Michael McIntyre despite the fact he is very good. Saints fans have an prejudiced aversion to well educated accents. Who says Pompey fans are pikey?

OldNick Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 I dont get Harry Hill. I prefer Han**** some of Monty Python, Bob Newhart, Young Ones, Bob Monkhouse (not his tv stuff) Roy Chubby Brown, Jimmy Jones, Gervais, Lee Mack, Alan Carr, Peter Kay, Paul Kay Rik Mayalls Alan B'stard, Alan Partridge. Im surprised nobody has mentioned Lenny Henry the worsts unfunniest man but as he's black he gets loads of contracts from the BBC

saint lard Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 (edited) Frankie Howerd, legend. Saw him years ago doing an improv show, pure class,i still have his "Frankie says...get yer titters out" t-shirt. Comic duo,Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson, saw all the "live Bottom "shows,i have never laughed so much. Gervais is great, both on the tellybox and live. Tinsleworm was utter tripe imo, compared to part Troll, shame really quite like Bill Bailey. Edited 2 July, 2009 by saint lard

Deppo Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Oh btw not surprised not many are keen on Michael McIntyre despite the fact he is very good. Saints fans have an prejudiced aversion to well educated accents. Who says Pompey fans are pikey? Personally, my accent went to Oxbridge, wherever that is, so it's very well-educated. People don't like Michael McIntyre because he's not funny, but well done for trying to stir things up over here. Was it a slow night on the main board? Essruu Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Probably Baj, for all of his comedy promises of a super site with super features if people paid £5. Maybe he's still working on it; maybe he's still laughing.

Either I'm getting psychic or Essruu has run dry.

Nineteen Canteen Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Kenny Everett. What you talking about Willis? Kenny Everett was about as funny as **** Emery. Dom Joly has to be given some credit for Trigger Happy TV took the whole candid camera thing to another level and killed it dead at the same time as it could not be surpassed. Everyone I know is raving about Flight of the Conchords but I keep missing it. Any good? Still haven't weaned myself of Mock the Week repeats on Dave tbh and btw Hugh Dennis is deliberately smug and has a razor sharp wit. Take him and frankie Boyle out of that programme and you don't have one.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Just wanted to say that Jo Brand is the only female comedian who can provide genuine LOL moments. There are no black comedians that I can think of that make me laugh consistently. This is not a racist comment but nearly all the others we have mentioned their humour is quite generic and based on their observations from all aspects of life. It seems to me black comedians base alot of their comedy on their culture and their experiences within it and even the greats like Pryor he had to revert to the stereotypical black man + he swore so much he became unfunny like Billy Connolly. As Nick H pointed out about Lenny Henry he is recruited IMO because he appeals solely to a different cross section of society and if you don't fall in that category its not funny or at least not capable of being funny over a long period of time as those comedians who try to encompass everyone. Don't mean to offend anyone but anyone else have a view. Same applies to most female comedians IMO as I am just not in tune with their subject matter. Talking about over doing the swearing there is one man who could get away with it and is without doubt my favorite comedian sadly departed - Peter Cook. Anyone remember his football manager parody in an interview with Clive Anderson? The Derek and Clive tapes were the most offensive things I have listened to that classed itself as entertainment but it didn't grate like Billy Connolly or Richard Pryor or Roy Chubby Brown who is (sorry NickH) absolutely detestable and about as funny as Stan 'one joke' Boardman.
