I just wish goalkeepers would stand up for penalties and try and save the shot rather than going early. Penalty takers in the main are anticipating the keeper moving first.

It seems more penalties are saved by waiting, as it seems to throw the penalty taker, unless they have picked a side beforehand and drive the ball in irrespective what the goalkeeper does.

Yesterday after Kelvin went early, Burgess just placed it centre left.

He made some cracking reaction saves and that is his strength, he should use that in penalties.

It was proved that a keeper unless he moves as the ball is being taken does not have time to react to what direction the player shoots. It was done on tv and I think they used Shilton, where he used to like to wait but had a terrible record saving penalties. I think that htey compared him to Cooper from Ipswich and was good and he used to try and choose and body shape. It takes a brave kkeper not to dive one way or other as the fans would really get on his back if he stood and hoped they were going down the middle.

I think so many players are now waiting to see which way the keeper goes it is worth giving them a problem, Davis has a poor record with us at penalties. I haven't seen him save any. I think it looks worse to go the wrong way early.

Davis is going to Stoke,ok it's in the News of the World, but they did break the Pekhart story and that turned out to be correct.

Not saying that everything they put to print is gospel though.

Are you sure it was spelt like that?

If it was I'd bet on it just being some NOTW journalist not having a clue what he was on about for a change.

To quote the NOW.

Tony Pullis is ready to raid the south coast team again for 'keeper Kelvin Davis.

The Stoke boss recently captured Saints defender Andrew Davies and then loaned (?) son Anthony to the same club.

I thought we had signed his son permantly, free transfer,2 year deal.

Did you see the way Kelvin admired his save on the big screen?? And then looked around to milk the applause!!

Made me chuckle!

:smt082 Whoops... I actually thought that shot came off his head and thats why the cheeky smile... Even better save then.

Davis has been solid for us for a majority of his Saints career -- Silly errors have been noticible - but as always a keepers mistakes are more glaring as they often result in goals.

Twice today I heard the bellowing of Davis as he called for a ball and that was easily over the crowd - I think he plans on making the defence his on this year.

Keep up the good work KD

Credit where it's due, he is a good shot stopper, but he is absolutely woeful on crosses, and has no command of his area.

You say he was woefully exposed, I say it is his job to ensure his defenders are defending the goal. He doesn't appear [to me] to control them well enough.

That is the difference. A good 'keeper controls all aspects and ensures he isn't exposed.

agree totally
