chrisobee Posted 23 June, 2009 Author Share Posted 23 June, 2009 Pleased we won but having waited all season for us to be on TV I did not realise this game was being shown and I always check.........well nearly always!
chrisobee Posted 24 June, 2009 Author Share Posted 24 June, 2009 Yes, Lumb was deservedly MOM. Luckily I caught the replay, thought Tremlett bowled excellently though consistent bowling all round. Win our last 2 games and we're through. Kent at the Rose Bowl on Friday and Essex at Chelmsford on Sunday. "Brilliant crowd" according to Charles Colville ! stevegrant Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 I'm intrigued by Liam Dawson's demotion to part-time bowler even behind the likes of Sean Ervine who can often take wickets but usually goes for a hatful of runs - he's also been dropped from the 4-day side as well... keithd Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 I'm intrigued by Liam Dawson's demotion to part-time bowler even behind the likes of Sean Ervine who can often take wickets but usually goes for a hatful of runs - he's also been dropped from the 4-day side as well... last night Dimi left him out the bowling attack cos all the spinners were getting spanked for a hatful. personally I was concerned about his tactics last night, playing the seamers, giving them two overs a time potentially allowing the batsmen to get their line. he said in the post match he was a bit worried 5 overs out when they were very much in it, tahir was getting a bit of a caning too (so i guess he knows what he's doing! ). wasnt the most convincing victory for me but we were up against a team with nothing to lose and we were on the back of a defeat, so a wins a win Lumb is in awesome form, another victory friday (i'll be there! woop) and it sets up the final game against essex just nicely... Indeed, I thought he must be injured. That said Mascarenhas and Tahir were the most expensive bowlers with Tremlett, Ervine and Cork going for between 6.5-7.5 an over. Perhaps Hants don't want to play him in every game as he is still developing and also with Tahir now back he is always going to be the main spinner. So maybe a case of being rested rather than dropped, after all the poor old England players are always too tired to play for their counties! The Saturday Boy Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 I'm intrigued by Liam Dawson's demotion to part-time bowler even behind the likes of Sean Ervine who can often take wickets but usually goes for a hatful of runs - he's also been dropped from the 4-day side as well... I think it is basically due to the fact that he is not bowling that well. A friend of mine overheard Dawson say to someone in the pavillion a couple of weeks back that he was 'bowling like a drain'. Obviously, his confidence in his own bowling is low at the moment. I went last night, it looked it was going to be close one, with Middlesex probably slight favourites with about 5-6 overs to go, but then Ervine and Tahir bowled a tight over each, and Corky and Tremlett bowled the last 4 overs superbly and Hampshire won comfortably in the end. I didn't think there would be as many there last night, with the game on TV and another game on Friday night, but it looked about 90% full. He openly admits himself that he is a batsmen who can bowl a bit. He said that batting comes natural to him whereas bowling doesn't. I do agree that it was a bit of a surprise to see him dropped from the championship side but there's good competition for places and I'm sure he'll get back in at some stage this season.
