alpine_saint Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 Seeing as the Dubai owners have shelved their hotel plans, it may go back into service on the Soton - NY route. Should never been allowed to go in the first place, imo.
spyinthesky Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 V unlikely in my view. Queen Mary 2 struggles to fill up on most Transatlantic crossings and the seaon is fairly short. Who will market the ship? Needs a big company to obtain critical mass. A one ship operation will never work. Where will it cruise outside of the New York/Europe season. Upper berths are fine. Lower down, the ship very much shows its age. Additionally there are new SOLAS regs coming into being in 2010 which will require a shed load of money thrown at the ship to make it suitable for passenger operations. That's why Carnival sold the ship. Shame but a non story
1976_Child Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 We should use her as a troop carrier during the next world war. We will be engaged in a global shoot-out before long and will need reliable vessels to carry us all to our deaths.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 I watched her go out of Southampton that last time and I'd happily watch it come back, it should be converted into a hotel and kept in Southampton. All it'd need is a consortium backed by a wealthy investor to buy it and convert it and it'd be sorted!
