Just some tips. Ive got an Epsom 4280 flatbed scanner with a (crap) neg holder that came with it. The scanner itself is fine, but I cant find a way to keep the negs flat whilst scanning, as the Epsom holder allows them to bend upwards so the images are really soft in the middle.

I had a dedicated neg scanner back when i used to do it and that would be my only tip... to get a dedicated neg scanner! Never used a flatbed for it, so can't really help i'm afraid.

Well depending on what you want to use the shots for, and how handy you are at editing, you can get neg scanners for less than £40 these days which will do a job.

I have a Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV scanner. It scans 35 mm negatives and 35 mm transparencies (slides). You can choose different resolutions - which create files of different sizes.

It does an excellent job.
