david in sweden Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 somewhat different situation when a Prem.club is involved. The FA wouldn't dare let a Prem.club go into liquidation - what would that do for their image as legislators? Reminds me of a famous quote (forgotten who) an economist / bankman? ........from the 1930's. He said .." If you owe the bank £100 and don't pay - you will surely go to jail. ......if you owe the bank a million..they will make you a director !" Never a truer word.
WhitmonSaint Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 It won't go on forever, and the sooner it implodes - the better. IMHO.
gonzo Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 The difference with Liverpool is they will refinance their debt. Until they can no longer service it, they are effectively solvent.
Wurzel Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 You think Liverpool are in trouble? Take a look at this article about Newcastle. http://www.twohundredpercent.net/?p=1549 Looks like they're ****ed whichever way they turn !
WhitmonSaint Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 That is such a good read Wurzel - thanks for the link. Amazing, you forget about all the players clauses/bonuses, signing on fees, image rights etc etc! Think they could be in a lot of trouble!
70's Mike Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 but whose boat would you ratherbe in , ours or Liverpools
brightspark Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 but whose boat would you ratherbe in ' date=' ours or Liverpools[/quote'] Would rather support Saints than be a plastic. Even if we are deep in the sh*t. Most Liverpool fans are not real fans.
WhitmonSaint Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 Would rather support Saints than be a plastic. Even if we are deep in the sh*t. Most Liverpool fans are not real fans. some would say they're not even real people...
Scudamore Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 You think Liverpool are in trouble? Take a look at this article about Newcastle. http://www.twohundredpercent.net/?p=1549 Looks like they're ****ed whichever way they turn ! Beggars belief... Image rights – essentially merchandise sold by the club with the player’s face included. Players can either be paid their image rights based on exactly what is sold' date=' or they can receive a lump sum – usually 10% of their yearly wage. There is one exception to this at St. James’ Park – Joey Barton reputedly has the largest image rights at the club, 20%, instead of 10%. There are few worse ways of spending £675k per year than paying for Joey Barton’s image rights.[/quote']
slickmick Posted 23 June, 2009 Posted 23 June, 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8114377.stm Looks like they will live another day. The club borrowed too much; and it now has to tighten its belt, pay down debt and endeavour to live within its means Robert Peston, BBC business editor Then they go and spend £17m on a skate. Crazy world.
Deano6 Posted 24 June, 2009 Posted 24 June, 2009 Being in debt is not, per se, a bad thing. Just about every company in the FTSE 100 has issued debt.
ooh it's a corner Posted 24 June, 2009 Posted 24 June, 2009 but whose boat would you ratherbe in ' date=' ours or Liverpools[/quote'] Ours. I wouldn't be happy being a scouser. eh now?
david in sweden Posted 24 June, 2009 Author Posted 24 June, 2009 but whose boat would you ratherbe in ' date=' ours or Liverpools[/quote'] ours of course, but ...... would FA treat Liverpool the same way if the boot was on the other foot ..?
