Update from Tony Lynam 1:45pm Monday 22/06/09

SOTONS EAST SIDE

Recommended Posts

Nice to get these updates from Mr Lynam. Reading between the lines it seems to me we are still a few days away from the deal being completed. FL may make a decision today but he has mentioned other small legal matters and completion in a timely manner.

Agreed. As mentioned in the Guardian on Friday, the sticking point is with our Creditors, not directly with the FL (though the FL clearly hold the key to unblocking these issues). We need updates from the FL, then and only then can we make progress with the Creditors (I assume Barclays). I can see this process taking a few more days yet, meanwhile I have chewed my fingernails down to the elbow.

Sorry to be dim but what interview was this and when was it shown?

Again, to add my thanks to the superlative way Tony is handling this - can you for one second imagine Lowe et al treating us with this level of dignity?

On Sky Sports News. Agreed. No.

Completing the deal on time, without losing exclusivity and giving us enough time to run a decent pre-season would fill me with confidence.

Trying to shore up the fanbase with meaningless daily updates showing no progress does not fill me with confidence.

Cut the man some drift, he's trying to save our football club. If he posts on here then he more than likely reads on here and can see some of the fans are less than happy at the FL. He's asking us to bear with him and work with him by being patient. For a future that we all want. This may take a million baby steps.

Future owners, players, club staff and fans.

One team for one Southampton!

Tony

You know as I well as I do that there is no chance of having the points deduction overturned by any tribunal.

So is the FL thing a smoke-screen while you buy time to sort out those "minor" legal issues that seem to be holding everything up?

The Matt Le Tissier interview where he talks about a level playing field. Also on the Skysports website in the afternoon update and in the video section.

Although I am not entirely sure.

Thank you both.

have to be pleased with that, he sounds VERY confident of it all going through and glad to see we are going to have le god in an important role at the club.

Just one thing though, whats with the cut on his lip ?? Has he been fighting the FL a little too hard ?? :smt071

has the FL meeting started yet?

Knowing those old crusties...the meeting started at 4pm and they have broken already for the first tee and comfort break!!! LOL

You don't honestly expect to hear naything today do you...they will probably have to take legal advice before they make any statement!

This will roll on and on....

Notice that 3pm Echo update to the article that has been there all day indicates that the FL meeting is finished and that pinnacle expect clarification shortly...

The one I can read doesn't say the meeting is over. Just say pinnacle are confident they can complete following meeting. Not the same thing as saying it is over.

In fact I have seen nowhere any indication of the precise time of the meeting.

I found the timing of Tony Lynam's post on here very puzzling ...before during or after FL meeting and decision?

I note he is saying "I" now, not "we" , with no reference to the financial backer's view, which I also found puzzling.

And has he been in touch with Leeds? They had exactly the same "no appeal" experience ...and lost.

K.

I must admit it all sounds encouraging today with Le Tiss and Tony Lynam coming across calm and confident. Let's all just hold our nerve - we waited for 2/3 years for a takeover to happen so let's just be patient and trust these guys to do the right thing.

Am not confident that the takeover will happen today, but I do hope to hear something from the FL. Even if they are a bunch of old crusties...

It seems to me that there's some brinkmanship going on, with TL trying to enlist the media to add some pressure to the FL. From the Pinnacle perspective he's handling it really well.

It's just that A) I'm not sure he can win, and B) the FL has a lot more time than we do.

I'm concerned that we're going to get so hung up on the deduction/right of appeal issue that we end up damaging our prospects for the 2009-10 season even more.

For me this is about a much longer time frame than just the 09-10 season - it's about a five-year plan towards long term success.

Tony Lynam is right in asking us all to keep our feelings under control. If it is true that the Football League is trying to make membership dependent on Pinnacle not even having a fair hearing, that is called blackmail and it has no place in either business or football. Maybe I'm naive, but I thought it was illegal.

I hope that this takeover is the last for a very long time, so to get it right to start with will help.

thanks mate

i quite like the sound of this guy..... although communicating on a message board (like uncle mike)...i just a sense of realism with him

I hope this turns out as good as it sounds...

we shall see

This has probably been covered already but I would like to add that I think its good to see a few statements from people within the club on a message board. nothing cryptic but a few words here and there is refreshing IMO.

Would be nice to hear from the club captain or more senior players too 1nce in a while. It might bridge the gap a little between club and fans. after all we always liked to think we were a family club that was in touch with the area.

Well done Tony and through the various actions taken over the past few weeks/months I have started to believe things will eventually change for the better.

This is a matter of principle. Everyone should have the right of appeal. TL is fighting for that right even though he and the new board may choose not to use it......in the end whether they do or not is not the issue, it's the right to do it should they so wish.

If the club did then appeal and lost, the decision would be accepted. It is the right of appeal itself that is being defended. Rightly so IMO, and even by Lord M's own statements of the past.

I agree that this is absolutely right. A right of appeal is an essential part of natural justice, a principle that the courts have upheld time after time. This is not just a football issue but goes far wider. It is deeply offensive that the FL should try to use the present situation to get SFC to set aside its legal rights and it certainly raises doubts about the integrity of the people running the FL.

Your an absolute idiot, be thankful for this guy taking his time to give us some news he dose'nt have to! if you heard nothing you would be complaining that they don't care about the fans! Obviously their are are alot of legal issues which if you had any sense you would realise cant be public knowledge!

were all impatient but have some respect

To be honest it's something which I saw in use elsewhere, but I can't recall quite where. So, sadly, it's not my clever work (not that any of my work is clever!).

Hard to believe someone that posts on the Echo website with the username Leopard Spots :D

too true - but it's something SOMETHING to look forward to.....?!?!?

Think i'm going to give myself a self-imposed ban on the internet for the next few hours and check back in to (hopefully) see all is good and completed....... oh look, world peace.....

Most I think would agree that waiving a right of appeal is NOT in the best interests of the club, but maybe feel that given the current situation, and whatever the legal technicalties, seeing a confirmation of our survival and the unveiling of the new owner/s and teh positive sthis would bring are in some ways more imporatnt to fans right now than the 10 points - which given the wave of renewed optimism and support could be overcome anyway with the right management in place.... The frustration is not helped by the Football leagues stance as you mention, why insist on no right of appeal if the case is solid anyway - I suspect because in the cold light of legal scrutiny the club may have a techical case, but do we have the stomach for such a fight? There is alos the greater good of the game to consider... the impact that a successful appeal could have on the league and other clubs - I know its not fashionable to consider anything but our own position, but it would be hypocritical of me to condem the the way the game has evolved in terms finace and what this has done to stiffle true sporting competition, if not accepting that sometimes its perhaps better to take one on the chin for the greater good and maintain the moral high ground?

Whatever, I am sure you and your team and advisors will be doing all you can for a successful resoltion and I wish you all the very best in your negotiations.

Thanks for the graft these last months. It is appreciated.

Frank

If the club waives it's right of appeal, will this not compromise us should there be a further 15 points deducted out of the blue by the FL? This worries me.

And how would one, from such a great height, describe the other half?

Furthermore, which half does one place one's self in?

You can just see this coming can't you! I'd be more surprised if it doesn't happen, we'll get it for failing to come out of a CVA correctly.

Even though we are not in one.

You really couldn't make it up.
