SFKA South Woodford Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 Nothing like shedding a tear before work!!! My 5 year old son said, sorry Dad, its Man U for me!!! where do you go from there? Obviously he is grounded for a year.... I trust you also imposed the champions league and sky, tv ban, which is standard in these situations. Still, at least he didn't say he wanted to support the skates. I know a couple of Tottenham and West Ham fans, whose sons have turned and supported Arsenal instead. trousers Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 Not sure it will be a case of guzzumped but match the terms Pinnacle have already agreed. The fact that Fry is actively talking to others suggests he is losing confidence in Pinnacle big time. This is a big worry for staff at SMS and us supporters. Now the exclusivity period is over, isn't Fry duty bound to interact with anyone who approaches him regardless of his own personal confidence levels with the Pinnacle position? In other words, he couldn't turn around to 'consortium X' and say "thanks for your request for a meeting - I will have to decline though as I'm very confident that Pinnacle will complete very soon". Could he?

I agree - if Pinnacle were just discussing minor points with the FL why would Fry be actively chasing new possible buyers? I still think an appeal of an FL decision to be heard by the FL would have a foregone conclusion and I really can't believe that this is the real source of the delay. A mystery investor with cold feet could be another matter though. After all Pinnacle have already lost a number of potential investors on the way by their own admission. TBF as we are not in an exclusivity period he is duty bound to speak to any other party that can prove proof of funds. I guess he will be telling them the problems that Pinnacle are facing and letting them go away and figure out there next step. Pinnacle are still further ahead than anyone else but will be buggered if another party come up with the readies for a 21 day exclusivity period as I take it that would then exclude them from talking with the club about a takeover. All IMO of course
WhitmonSaint Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 If the Pinnacle bid fails (and I am only saying 'if) then to be fair i'd take that to be game over, regardless of how many other parties have money and are interested. Pinnacle obviously have money, and are in the final stages of agreeing terms with the FL. But if they fail a) we simply cannot afford another 21 day exclusivity period and b) what's to say that another bidder wouldn't fall at exactly the same hurdle that Pinnacle could potentially do? Along with another 21 days exclusivity period comes another 500k which will pay another months wages. player bonuss's may go out of the window but the club would still be alive and even if we had to field a squad from the acadamy there are enough players still under contract to form a team. even if its not very competitive. Fry would get crucified for not having done his job properly, that's why! He has to be sure that he doesn't find himself at a point where bids 'B' and 'C' are still five or more weeks away from closure, when they could be just three weeks away. If there is even a 1% chance of a deal with Pinnacle not happening, Fry would have to be talking to and progressing other parties. He has to be ready with those other parties at a stage to progress as quickly as possible, in order that the situation is resolved with a sale of the assets within the time constraints of the new season approaching and the payment of bills. trousers Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 Just to clarify.....Are Pinnacle in 'constant' discussion with the Football League or are they having to wait until the League representatives dealing with this case are, for instance, out of other meetings? In other words, do the FL have a dedicated rep, or reps, on our case? Apologies for the 'bump' but does anyone have an inkling or insight into the frequency and duration of Pinnacle's meetings with the Football League? I'm not after exact times and places just whether we've got the services of a dedicated FL 'team' or whether they are having to squeeze in chats into the already busy schedules of the FL reps dealing with our case. Thanks

lenwilkins Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 So just as Fry has to carry on talking to all possible buyers, is it not likely that Mr Big is also looking at an alternative club to buy (using another Pinnacle type set up elsewhere in the country). After all SISU looked at both us and Coventry, Marcus Evans looked at both us and Ipswich and of course Help Me Rhonda looked at both us and Blackburn simultaneously. It would explain why the points deduction is an important issue - perhaps the other club don't have the same potential handicap. It would also explain the buyers reluctance to reveal his name. It would rather give his game away if it was known he was lookiing at more than one club. All conjecture of course.

smarmy Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 Leftfield sort of thought: If Barclays want their money back (or as much of as possible), shouldn't they hang on till the credit crunch/economic apocalypse etc is over and there are more billionaires in search of playthings? West Ham are now actually owned by a bank, aren't they? Will there come a point where Barclays just appoint someone to run the club for next season and try to sell it next summer? Surely better than liquidation, from their point of view, plus the PR of having put a club out of business would be terrible.

Might be a conflict of interests if Barclays ran a football club given their association with English football (although not directly the Football League, granted). Makes sense in principle though. What prompted Barclays to recall their overdraft? If the interest payments are being made and the balance is coming down why pull the plug knowing that you'll only get back a fraction of the money owed? smarmy Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 I read it somewhere, probably on here, that Barclay's thought we wouldn't get -10, so maybe they, like most people, thought Lowe's continued control was untenable, but that we would still be in the Championship, so they could just force a change in ownership. Or something. Or maybe the credit crunch just meant them applying stricter criteria without thinking it through.

There will be a chain of decision making at the FL, but I'd have thought they'd want to put this to bed as quietly and quickly as possible. It's in nobody's interest for it to be aired in the public eye at length. Both sides will probably be in frequent contact with their legal eagles, because even changing the order of a few words on a contract have have major legal ramifications. This obviously adds time. Let's just hope it's not like the Simpsons, where Pinnacle have retained Lionel Hutz and the FL have Monty Burns' team of sharks.
