Anyone know the answer to this. If the FL spin this out to your next payday on Thursday will the football club go bust? Or, have the club got enough money for next Thursday. There was something on here about Rasiak? Poland? and you getting £200k, and maybe other bits I've missed?

Tony lynam:

please, just take the -10 points and do the deal! We fans will sing our bloody hearts and the lads will get the points back by the end of august! Come on just do the deal

What this gentleman said

If this scuppers the deal I will be a sad little bunny :(

You're right, thanks.....just speaks of communicating with Pinnacle about the position directly.

So is the 'no appeal' info an innacurate interpretation or have the Echo and SSN heard the actual details from Pinnacle I wonder????

Am I missing something with the Statement, "With that in mind, The Football League has responded directly to the Pinnacle Group, and will continue to liaise with their representatives going forward."

They could have come forward with good news, a compromise. Why is just the negative beeing seen in a neutral statement?

Hopefully pinnacle were just trying it on in the vague hope that the FL might cave in, but I cannot believe pinnacle will not continue the purchase because of this, even us mere supporters knew the the chances were almost nill.

exactly. They've spent £500,000 already (and tonnes more on legal fees , no doubt).

Come on, SIGN THE DEAL AND ALL OF SOUTHAMPTON WILL REJOICE!!

..you know it makes sense. It can't be an ego thing. So what if we start on -10..... it DOESN'T MATTER!

That's right - the FL doesn't say anything in their statement, other than they've given their decision to Pinnacle, so where have SSN and The Echo got this from? Have Pinnacle released this news to them?

But isn't there a very thinly veiled threat about "which competition we will be playing in" - ie agree or you're not in our league (or at least League1)??? :(

What a load of complete and utter guff from the FL. Completely dodged around the issue, without giving any explanations at all. (well – that’s because there aren’t any)

Utter joke.

At least we now know what we did at 7am this morning...

where in the statement does it say anything about refusing to allow an appeal?

"The Board of The Football League met today to consider representations from the 'Pinnacle Group' with regard to their proposed takeover of Southampton Football Club.

"The Football League has the responsibility to ensure all League clubs start the season with certainty as regards the competition they compete in.

"With that in mind, The Football League has responded directly to the Pinnacle Group, and will continue to liaise with their representatives going forward. "

Means that they won't allow an appeal because, if successful, it would mean moving up the league table and ahead of other teams.

Aha! So it's cleverly disguised lawyer-speak for "Up yours, Pinnacle ...and SFC."

Why on earth is anyone surprised. They were NEVER going to back down and honestly I don't see why they should. Rules are Rules. They arent going to change them for a medium sized club like Southampton

Just do the deal FFS - if this benefactor isnt Barry the Builder then we ought to have money to get a squad to cut that deficit quickly. Look at Bournemouth

I read that as the football league not believing that any appeal would be resolved before the start of the 2010-11 season. Why would it take that long?

Reading in between the lines of their statement, is there something more to it? Are the FL worried that if we won an appeal we could then claim that the announcement of an incorrect points deduction at such a sensitive time of the season destabilised the club and contributed to our relegation.

Is this what they are worried about?

It is a legal and moral right to have the right of appeal. its the process that allows to either correct an unjust decission or confirm a just one. If the league have been correct and just in there decission to give us a points deduction then an appeal should show that and they should have nothing to worry about.

The only reason I can think of for them not allowing us an appeal is if they think they made the wrong decission in the fist place. That, if proved would open up all sorts of legal debates so I guess the league will either stand firm or look for a resolution that has no follow up legal action.

If they stand firm I wonder if the club has the right to go to anyone else to take action against the league? In work it would be deemed as constructive dismissal and there is action that can be taken. In a private members club we might be stuffed though. So both parties think they have a winning hand and niether want to call.

The -10 thing was a given thing, so why were Pinnacle going down this route? Just don't want to hand over the dosh till the last second me thinks!

Fair enough they new the -10 was there but they also undersood that there would be the right to appeal. the club think they have a good case to apeal so are planning too. when they get to the take over point the league ask them to sign over there right to appeal in exchange for the ticket that enters them into the league.

Doesnt look like Pinnacle are trying to back out TBH.

What I still don't understand is how Mawhinney clearly said to the world that we could appeal the deduction when first imposed on us, and now they are making it a condition of giving us permission to play in the league that we promise not to. The man is a treacherous Tory twister with the morals of a politician. Regardless of whether the deduction was legal, moral or justified, he has clearly and publicly gone back on his word.

Wasn't there a period of time where we could appeal and after that we weren't allowed? Probably 5 minutes in the middle of the night or something.

Seven days after the FL announcement of their decision to dock points, although as there wasn't a buyer for the club it seems a redundant point.
