I think its like that visa questionnnaire you have to fill in to get into the US when you are already on the plane and about to land. "Have you ever committed genocide, mass murder or other war crimes? Warning answering yes renders you liable to prosecution and inprisonment for up to 350 years" Unsurprisingly most people answer "no" and are thus judged a fit and proper person to enter the US / become a Football Club owner.

I'm hoping someone allegedly planning to buy a club down the road becomes the first!!

Is the FL "fit & proper persons" test, managed by a shared resources (with the FA), or a separate test?

Sorry I got it wrong there has been 1.....at Rotherham. I knew I had read something about Bachelor.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/apr/09/sport.comment

Most depressing to many Mansfield fans is that the football authorities are apparently powerless to act as one of the game's long-standing town clubs, formed in 1897, lurch into this unseemly stand-off. The Football League has a "fit and proper persons test" for football club directors and substantial shareholders but it does not bar from involvement people, such as Haslam, who have committed breaches of company law, or those with serial insolvency records, in and out of football, such as Batchelor. The disqualification applies to any person with unspent convictions for dishonesty, anyone who is bankrupt, and anyone who has run a football club into insolvency twice.

John Nagle, the Football League's spokesman, explained: "In order to make the test meaningful and workable it has to be based on clear objective criteria rather than a subjective judgment of someone's suitability." Which means that if Haslam, or any other owner, is fed up or unpopular enough to sell to him, John Batchelor could have his hands on another football club tomorrow.

Lifelong fan made loss but is not fit and proper

The chairman of Rotherham United has become the first director of any English football club to be disqualified under the "fit and proper persons test". Denis Coleman took the Millers over in March 2006, and quickly cut its losses via a company voluntary arrangement. However, the club, whose former chairman, Ken Booth, owns the ground, still struggled, Coleman could not secure investment, and last month it went into administration. That constitutes a second "insolvency event" while Coleman has been on the board, so under the test he cannot be a football club director or 30% shareholder. "I am a lifelong fan," Coleman complained. "I took over because the club was in trouble. We had to do the CVA to save it. Being involved has cost me money, I have not had a penny out, unlike people at some other clubs, yet I am barred and they can be involved. That's ludicrous."

I am up to series 5 episode 12!!! they are still looking for a cure, but Cameron is in a home for the mentally impaired!! Shame, I really liked her!!

Watching second time around. Cameron or 19 was it? - I can never decide which but I think I probably speak for a close on majority of TSW'ers when I say - on balance maybe I could be possibly persuaded to say - I would!

Have collected the whole set (up to S5 E6) on trips to Vietnam & Thailand, bad of me I know but it only started being shown here about 2 years ago and only up to Series 3 in the local shops.

Meanwhile, yes Thorpie, I contacted my legal advisors this afternoon, as your case is in an appeal situation you can continue to post until a final decision is made in court. Likely to be a close run thing (not IMHO) as to whether The EU appeal or the takeover happen first

But according to that report :

'A member of the family behind the Swiss-based Liebherr Holdings group is closing in on a purchase at St Mary's.

The bid has not come, as reported, from siblings Isolde and Willi Leibherr, or their Leibherr Group company'

In which case who is it ? 'Mad Uncle Heinrich' ? Will someone please produce the Leibherr family tree and let the guessing commence?

Try this.

Hans Liebherr had five children, two of whom - Willi and Isolde now run Liebherr. I guess its either one of Willi or Isolde's children or one of the other siblings. They're German by the way, not Swiss.

For me personally, if I was head of a mega super rich family I'd be looking to lay off some of the Man City type inflated prices when buying players by hiding behind a less known or wealthy member of the family?

Sure, I wouldn't rule that out. Equally you could argue that one of the very wealthy family members who are not involved in running the company might independently be looking for a good project to occupy their time.

That's my guess. It's a little project for junior.

No you can't have one of those big Premier clubs. It's Southampton or nothing. Now, put your Nintendo DSi down and eat one more piece of broccoli before you get down from the table.

No, they're swiss:

"The Liebherr Group's holding company is Liebherr-International AG in Bulle, Switzerland, which is entirely owned by members of the Liebherr family."

However "The Liebherr Group is a German manufacturing complex established in 1949 by Hans Liebherr, headquartered in Biberach an der Riss, Baden-Württemberg." so that may be why you thought so.

Congrats to all on reaching 100 pages! Never thought that would actually happen. Back to the takeover talk anyway. Could tomorrow actually be the day? I've got a feeling it might be, but I refuse to get too excited until everything has been confirmed. If we're just waiting on the Football League to carry out their 'fit and proper person test', it could potentially be announced in the next 24 hours. Now where have we heard that before!?

They only moved the group HQ and their residence to Switzerland in the 1970s, presumably for tax reasons.

I cant see it posted anywhere but Andrew Pate Meridiskate said he had spoken with the Administrator and said the Swiss deal was very very close, awaiting clearance from the FA proper persons check - well as no-one has ever failed that think we can assume they will pass.

for the record Mr Pate is nailed on red and white, held a season ticket at St Marys until the birth of littl'un number two.

please dont tarnish him with the dirty brush used for Fred's comb-over

maybe the FL will move the goalposts again............................yawn

To be fair the Football League haven't "moved" any "goalposts" since this entire process started.

That's just in the heads of Tony Lynam and a few paranoid delusional conspiracy theorists on a web forum.

Ottery St Mary - need I say more

Neinteen Canteen - see OSM

CB Fry and his Wotte delusions :)

The list is endless

I don't see any proper reason why this can't be completed tomorrow either. everything seems to have been cleared up and its just down to the FL formality now - but this is Saints so expect a decision around this time next year...

Does tomorrow begin with an F?

Perhaps tomorrow they will reveal 25 year old Michael Liebherr who lives at home with his mum in a three bedroom semi in Baden-Baden as our new owner.

LOL but isn't Baden-Baden in the Black Forest??

Yes,the Black Forest in Germany which is relevant to the Liebherr family origins.

It was not intended to suggest they have connections to Baden-Baden as such.....it was to be read as an "any manufacturer of dairy produce " moment.;)

Let's hope for some good news tomorrow and someone to buy the club FINALLY. I do find it hard to understand why some filthy rich random swiss/germans want to buy saints who have no links to the club (am looking forward to finding out why). Bring back the good old days of owners who are linked to the area of clubs. My bet is that its not the horse riding chick, though that would be my preferred choice. Then we need a football manager style rise through the leagues and something to cheer on from here. No more false dawns PLEASE

Today's the Day! I really do hope so.

Thorpie, pm me your mobile number, i'll text what the echo says and you can post it up, or wait for me to get back on between 7:45-8:05.

After yesterday's debacle Thorpie has been officially stripped of his ITK status and the Saintsweb hit squad is on its way to 'sort him out' as we speak .

Thorpie out

Anybody else got the echo this morning? Just had a text from a mate saying that the Echo says today is the day!

You may identify with this helpful statement from Dr Fahim's spokesman about our takeover-

It could be tomorrow, it could be the end of the month.
