teamsaint Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 he has been around some of this week. Must be a decent bet for new manager. (Would be a good appointment IMO)

Leslie Charteris Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 MLT, KK and Dowie... chairman, DoF and head coach. That would just make my day. :-)

Big_Bald_Si Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Please, please, do NOT let Iain Dowie become our new manager.

itchen Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Dear God. We don't even know for sure we'll have a club to support next season (though it's looking more likely). We don't know who the new owner will be or what our resources will be. And we have no real information about who the manager might be. Yet we are already saying who it shouldn't be. Unbelievable.
eharty9 Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 yesterday every1 wants keegan , now people want dowie!! then tisdale! made ya mind up!
mdearlove Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 so we could see Tim Flowers back too then as he seems to follow Dowie around as his assistant
NickG Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Dowie has a better track record than our last 5 appointees

Unbelievable. this site is for debate. I of course worry if the club is safe, but there is little I can do about it, but would like to be able to share my opinion on certain names put up who may be in the frame if the club is saved. Dowie is not for me and Newcastle got no better with his coaching
NickG Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 and we are -10 in a lower division! -less attractive allegedly!
brightspark Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Well Dowie has done some work for Sky recently (I think), the odd bit of commentary here and there. Maybe his soft side for Saints and a couple of meetings with MLT at Sky is enough for Le Tiss to consider giving him the job? Who knows. TBH, I can think of better managers to have than Dowie, but we have certainly had worse.
northam soul Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Surely Dowie is still waiting on being given the Newcastle job full time as Shearers no2. I would doubt he would come here with that still ongoing.I have to say i am now totally underwhelmed after yesterdays excitement.

Burger Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Very happy if it was Dowie....although prefer Strachan....and have no doubts that MLT will make the choice he thinks is best for Saints....that is good enough for me
crouchi Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Dowie fits most of the requirements, was doing well at Palace before his relationship with Jordan deteriorated, good battler, lilkely to produce a fit team with limited resources
Scummer Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Don't really see what people have against Dowie. Certain folks could do with a reality check, we start this season ten points adrift in division 3. I could probably only name a couple of managers in this division.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 He will attract more ladies to SMS, that is for sure
Bailey Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Had you asked me prior to the Keegan story broke, I would have been more than happy with Dowie, but after yesterday's events anyone but him (or Strachan) is going to be a tad disappointing. Still, I'm just grateful that we still have a club and I'll support whoever is given the job.
alpine_saint Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Dowie as manager and possibly Keegan as DoF would do me fine...

TheMidfieldGeneral Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Ian Dowie with Peter Beardsley on his shoulders
docker-p Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 I don't know why everyone is so anti Dowie. Obviously he wouldn't be my first choice, but we are where we are, and Dowie has had some successes as a manager, a few failures too granted, but I can think of a lot worse.

SaintRobbie Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Dowie, Keegan, Shearer, Ince, Tisdale.... who cares. All are quality. Wotte is gone, Lowe is gone, MLT is about to be in with one of them. Pinnacle are about to own Southampton Football Club. Southampton Football Club has returned from suspended animation... Southampton Leisure Holdings plc FC is dead.

I wonder how many people said the same thing when WGS join us (well, not about Iain Dowie obviously!). Can we assume that MLT will do what he thinks is best for the club, or are we starting to doubt him before anything is even officially announced?

We should think ourselves lucky that we are perhaps getting a higher profile manager being in this division with a -10 start. Under Lowe I reckon we would end up with the AFC Totton manager as that would be cheap.
Badger Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Would prefer Tisdale to Dowie frankly. But Dowie is a better option than Ince.So on that basis I'm fairly indifferent to his possible appointment.

silversaint Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Regardless of who is appointed lets get behind them FFS. COYR.
alpine_saint Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 I want the club to go back to play-for-the-badge, spirited, blood-and-thunder, Ghengis Kahn-like performances. The time for smart-arse tactics and pretty tippy-tappyness is over. Dowie and Keegan can deliver that

Absolutely, yesterday was pretty exciting but we do need to take a reality check here. Most clubs in L1 would love to have Dowie IMO. He does have a mixed record but has been quite unlucky to be sacked at a few clubs where I thought he was doing ok.
Larrylove Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Dowie has been my first choice all along, build from the bottom and see where we are after 3 years, also as famously pointed out on fantasy football years ago,the son of Ian Turner!!
